OK, OK, as a reluctant, and only occasional, motorist, I wouldn't take it upon myself to review this establishment based on its raison d'être, i.e. the buying and selling of automobiles, and probably the maintenance of same.
However, as a pedant/punctuation Nazi/someone who sometimes paid attention in school, the signage on this premises irks me greatly. Not as much as, say, bail-outs, ash clouds and Mary Harney's continued ministerial status, but enough to prompt me to write this critique, nay, denouncement, nay, straight-up diss-fest.
Seriously, though, "Car's"? Let's leave aside the prominence and visibility of the site of this business, and therefore its sign, on a main national route close to our capital's main thoroughfare. There's also the issue of whether sign-writer dropped this clanger, or if they figured that if they charged by character, they'd make a few pounds extra (and we're talking pounds rather than euro here, this sign has been there since well before the changeover) for that apostrophe.
I must admit, a small part of me would be sad to see this sign's punctuation corrected, as it stands as a permanent monument to the confusion wrought by the conventions of the English language. A much larger part of me, however, (whilst respecting private property and condemning theft) interminably waits for some intrepid party of drunken students to liberate the apostrophe from its fixings and give it a new home at the bottom of the Royal Canal.
