Turns out construction had Clinton River road shut down in the area of this park and honestly it didn't seem like any great loss. I mostly wanted a return visit mainly cause this place wasn't all that memorable apart from the bugs being really bad. I've taken to rolling with bug spray in my ride and thought I had applied it pretty liberally but the mosquitoes were still just feasting on me. I posted some pics of here last year but never bothered to review it til now so you know, what does that tell you? The trails here go quite a long way actually but aren't delineated well at all so it's hard to tell if you're on a trail or not. I mean, the park is a long winding strip of land that basically just follows the river so the trails usually do the same but sometimes they just peter off or look like they branch off in one direction or another with neither looking adequate. Canal Park is a little respite from endless suburbia but if you can drive aways Dodge Park is much nicer with a similar Clinton River setting and less voracious insect life. I kind of envy the person who came here in February. They did say it was a pretty warm day for then so I don't imagine there was a pretty blanket of snow over everything but a winter hike here does sound somewhat appealing. No bugs then! Construction should be done by then, too. If I'm out here when snow makes it look like a winter wonderland I might just give Canal Park another shot.

Also, right off the pathway I saw tons of poison. If someone was walking towards us, we had to scoot to one side but I did not step i to any of the grassy areas because of all the poison. Another major issue was the tons and tons of mosquitos biting us all over and our dogs. If you do decide to walk through the trails, be sure to pack some spray with you. Another issue we had when we came was this young couple swimming and they had their dog with them. They did not put their dog on a leash. It ran and jumped out of the brush and tried to attack both of my dogs. The couple were too busy making out and didnt even try to grab the dog. Just be aware of your surroundings.

The main walking path is probably around 1/3 of a mile, so a quick walk; but there are a few trails that branch off, leading to a children's play area, courts, or nearby municipal buildings. There are many benches available to sit and enjoy the scenery, or watch the ducks; the lake has multiple fountains, and 3 different docks to enjoy. A stunning park for photo opportunities as well, and they hold a lot of community events, which is a big plus in my book. Definitely recommend checking it out if you get the chance.

It's basically a big field with a few trees and plants scattered, a nice little rock garden and a bubbling brook nestled near a bridge for a path that runs for maybe a third of a mile or so. There's a thin strip of woods along a bit of it and you can take the main trail or a path between the trees and a fence between you and the vast fields of still yet unused portions of the sprawling Resurrection Cemetery. After the debacle of Harrington "trails" in Fraser I'd set my expectations low for another new-to-me, Google found park and Tomlinson exceeded them, even if I'm not ready to join the the two reviewers here in lavishing five stars. Maybe if I lived right around here it'd be a godsend but Tomlinson Arboretum isn't something I'd go out of my way for. It was a nice hike on a summer evening, and unlike Harrington it probably did meet the bare minimum for bringing along my bike and hauling it out of the back of my station wagon. As it stands I don't feel like I missed much by not doing that. If you're hitting another more extensive trail in Macomb County maybe you could double it up with this as either a warm-up or a nightcap. The trail does end near the Clinton-Macomb library, too, and that's a pretty nice library they have there.

On this warm winter day, we took a walk and explored our 'new found' arboretum and I'm so happy we did. There were others walking together and running and walking their pets along the quiet pathway. Even in winter without anything in bloom, it's still a little escape in the middle of the suburbs and is an easy walk for all ages. Along the way, we stopped to listen to the woodpeckers high up in the trees and watched the squirrels chasing each other up the tree trunks. There are benches to sit on and take in the sights and surroundings. The Clinton River runs along the park and this is where we sat on a bench for a while listening to and observing the sights and sounds. Another area worth mentioning is the observation deck constructed on a little hill overlooking the new trees and river. It was constructed as an Eagle Scout project in June 2016. We stood on top of it and took in the quiet serenity of the surroundings. What a cool project this gentleman chose to build and it looks great. This little 'refuge' is a nice, quiet escape and a piece of heaven hidden yet very accessible in the busy and bustling county and if you have extra time or are looking for a little retreat from the chaos during the day, put on your walking shoes and escape if only for a few minutes. But if you have longer, it's worth taking your time and exploring and taking in the beauty. It'll be the perfect little walk to recharge and reenergize.

Ok so I know this isn't a business, but I still want to review this underrated gem in Eastpointe…read more Spindler Park is a very well maintained, safe, and pretty park with three pavilions, a jungle gym for kids, a soccer field, a sledding/climbing hill, tennis courts, horseshoe courts, shuffleboard, and disc golf. They also have bathrooms in the summer and port-a-potties in the winter. There is a walking trail for you and your (leashed) dog that measures about 1/4 mile (I think). Plenty of picnic tables and shade, and water fountains by the bathrooms. At the if the summer last year I was lucky enough to catch the butterfly migration south and I must have seen a few hundred in the trees beyond the soccer field where the disc golf route extends. It was magical. Overall, a great, safe park to get outside and spend some time.

Spindler Park is a park in East Point located on Stevens Avenue just before 94 on the right hand…read moreside. This park does not have as many features is the other Park such as Kennedy Park but nonetheless it's a great little city park. Like I posted in the photos during hunting season I come here and collect acorns for the deer. They're in the summer a lot of events are held here. Last summer my Cub Scout Pack 1909 had to camp out here I felt very safe and secure and there was even an indoor restroom available to use they also offer a nice Pavilion with electricity if you were to have a family reunions and or picnic here. There's also a nice little walking trail and even a huge pills to go sledding on in the winter if I remember correctly they do have a small play area for the kiddos as well. Nice place to go walk your dog and relax.

Sylvan Glen Lake Park is a hidden gem right off Rochester Road…read more It is great for a walk, picnic, and fishing. The back and forth walking path is paved leading around the lake into a beautiful forest area. Only about a third of the lake is accessible since the neighboring golf course locks the northern side. The accessible lakeside is shallow. Along the lake you will find benches to rest at or fishermen young and old. The onsite restrooms and water fountain were super helpful! Sylvan Glen Lake Park is a great spot to spend for the day or even stop on the way home from work for a fresh breath of air!

There is now a new paved bike and walking trail around the lake that opened up this past Spring…read more2021. It is part of the Troy Trails and such a great addition. Since the trail was completed more people are coming here to walk, bike, and fish especially in the evening hours. The trail doesn't go around the whole lake but a semicircle from the side opposite of the golf course. It's a short .75 mike tail and at the end goes through the woods and leads you into a neighborhood subdivision. The only thing this place needs now is an outdoor bathroom and water fountain.

My mother in law found out there was a nature preserve near my mom's house. We always drive past it…read moreand never noticed it because the sign is kinda small and the road is narrow and rocky. We pulled in and there wad a building on the right and one of the left. When we pulled to the left we saw two gentleman with trucks and spoke with them. They told us it is a 38 acre property but the trail is about a quarter mile. They also mentioned that the building we saw use to be an equestrian farm. We pulled to the side and parked on a rocky road. It was a little rough to push the wagon at first because of the big rocks. We walked along the trail and it was mostly covered by tons of trees. The path was mostly grassy and I didn't see any dirt or rocks. We saw a pond with a little shack on it. We also saw the back of the pond with tall grasses. It was very beautiful but it was a very quick walk. If you enjoy nature this is a spot to come to because it is very secluded and quiet. You could hear the birds and there was tons of wildflowers to look at as well.

If you want a quiet, relaxing walk where you can enjoy the rustic beauty that nature has to offer, this is a nice place to do it. It's 38 acres of trees, a dirt walking path and lots of wildlife to seek out from birds, to insects to squirrels, deer and other animals. The trail isn't too long and it's a quick circular walk if you're short on time. Along the pathway, you'll also see wildflowers and a couple of ponds. There's not much to the ponds... they're just natural looking ponds. Also, look for the old rustic cabin that sits next to the pond while you're walking. It's worth a quick look and adds to the beauty of the area. Although this nature preserve sits in the middle of the township, when you're on the trail, you'd never know that because you can't hear the traffic. You can easily enjoy the solitude and peacefulness of your short journey around the loop. A couple of tips....There's a porta john on site 'just in case'. Also, wear walking shoes since it's a dirt trail, especially if the dirt is wet. There's plenty of parking, although I don't think you'll be searching for an available parking space since as of right now, there's not much to do here besides walk the short trail and take in the scenery. So if you want to feel close to nature in some quiet solitude, come visit our newest nature preserve in Macomb. Look for the wooden sign at the driveway entrance. I posted a picture of it. Don't blink or you'll miss where to turn in!

I finally stopped in this park nearby My home to walk around the sidewalk paths, take photos to help others see so they can visit and enjoy it too. It is located on 49699 Romeo Plank. a 1/4 mile North of 22 Mile Rd. The park was created on 1.4 acres of donated land from a previous resident. It has a unique fenced in area with a membership key entrance called Pitchford Dog Park. The history story of Pitchford Park was named after a family of long time and now deceased residents that generously donated the land in 2021 to use to create a park using their last name of Joe Kay and Pamela Pitchford. Their parents were Bill and Joyce along with brother Todd who loved nature and the community of Macomb Township. Since I drive a few times a week on Romeo Plank Road, it was interesting to watch the reconstruction of the land to create now a community park. There are plenty of parking spots throughout the different areas of activities too. My photos attached show the entrance, trees, shrubs, flowers, tennis and pickleball courts, playscape areas, picnic tables and restrooms too. The newest attraction is a Dog Park for residents and non-residents with a fee and key to enter to use the areas for dogs to run and play with each other or their owners. The Porcupine Mountains,…read moreCanadian Rockies, the Pinnacles in Berea, Kentucky, Castle Rock in North Carolina and just basic stuff here in Southeast Michigan. Barton nature area in Ann Arbor, the trails at Lake St. Clair Metropark, the E. L. Johnson nature center and one in Livonia whose name is slipping me right now, etc. I wasn't expecting Nicholson nature center to be anything epic like some of the earlier entries on that list. You can tell that by looking at a map. But there's pleasant enough hiking trails nestled in Michigan suburbia. Nicholson might qualify as one of those if it wasn't so damn muddy! I've never hiked such muddy trails. You best wear big rubber fishermen's boots to trudge through this slop or get big mud stains running way up the side of your jeans like I did. It's a nice enough little swath of woods here but just not worth it for the mud puddles. I kind of wish Barrymore's would buy this forest and build giant roller coasters back here.
