He is also one of the nicest guy, accommodating, friendly and has the most affordable rate. I have read some of the negative reviews, the person described is nothing like George. I have never had any issues with him, except for one time when I couldn't reach him for a long time. Turned out he took time off for personal reasons, which is totally understandable. In the mean time I had to find someone else to do my taxes which I wasn't keen on, because I am more at ease with George. If you are looking for someone to take the pressure off tax season call him, you won't regret it! Some of the negative reviews mentioned that he was highly recommended that can only mean one thing, he is that good! If you can't reach him most of the time, just keep trying he is in high demand. He is only one person servicing several clients. He is hard to get ahold of, but thats why you plan ahead and get in touch with him before the season starts. I'm very disappointed to leave this review. I was referred to George Spooner through a friend, and when I first called him last year about setting up an LLC he seemed so helpful over the phone. Even said I could text him if I had questions about using legalzoom to set up my corporation. I thanked him and told him how excited I was to have found him and that I planned on using him come tax time. Beyond telling me to go to legalzoom and which package to purchase there he didn't tell me anything else about how best to itemize or separate my personal and business expenses. Fast forward to tax time. I had called and messaged him a few times. Slow responses, and very vague. I was asking how I should prepare my deductions to make it easier for him to file. He told me that I didn't follow the rules, and it's too messy for him to deal with so I should go elsewhere. What a disappointment and a load of crap. I would have happily gone through everything and organized it however he wanted if he took a few minutes to explain any issue. But instead he dismissed me. So on to the next I guess. I wish there was a ZERO star option, because 1 star is one too many. Like the previous reviewer, I too received an audit from the IRS for my 2009 income tax return. I wasn't too upset about it, as these things happen, and reached out to George Spooner right away. He assured me that he would help me out. I faxed and emailed him a PDF of the document and asked for confirmation of receipt. Not only did George never return my numerous emails (Which showed delivery confirmation) he never once returned any of my calls. It's really upsetting to have someone that is in a position to help- just completely IGNORE the situation. Ignoring this did NOT make it away. I'm now one day before my deadline, and literally on the phone with IRS trying to get an extension. I'll have to end up finding another accountant, who could hopefully help me fix the mess that George got me into. All I have to say is- Mistakes happen. People are only human, but I certainly don't expect someone to coward in an urgent situation, and turn the other way. I have tried calling George over 20 times in the past week, and have not gotten one single response. Just dead silence. People who are in demand are usually good. Business that is good will usually return phone calls and emails if their customers are unhappy. These both USUALLY happen and when they don't, we write bad Yelp reviews. When George Spooner incorrectly filed my wife and my taxes this year (mistakes happen, this I understand) we called and emailed him many times asking for details about what happened and what we need to do. He didn't return a single email or phone call to offer advice, next steps or a refund of the $250 we paid him to file. When my wife was audited for the taxes that George Spooner filed in 2009 he sent a power of attorney document and an invoice for $300. If you want your taxes filed cheaply and incorrectly from a person who won't return your phone calls, George Spooner is probably the guy for you . read more

As of writing this review I have not heard one word from George. I always like to get my taxes done and out of the way early so I met with George in the beginning of February. I didn't hear anything for several weeks and then a month. I called and emailed repeatedly asking what the status was on my return (especially after seeing he had cashed my check for his services.). Finally I got him on the phone and he made it sound like someone 'at the office' messed up. Fine, whatever. So I get my info and he files a month after initially meeting with him. Then several weeks go by, then a month, I don't receive my return. I call, email, nothing. I finally get an email from George saying that the IRS had been hacked and slow to return refunds. Wrong. Upon further inspection, GEORGE PUT THE WRONG ACCOUNT AND ROUTING NUMBER ON MY TAX RETURN thus sending my money to someone else, or FOR ALL I CURRENTLY KNOW, himself. I realized this THREE WEEKS ago and have called and emailed George repeatedly trying to find a solution to this but I have not heard one word. I can't put into words how utterly baffled this situation has left me. I am not someone who EVER yelps things or writes bad reviews or really gives much attention to incompetence; usually I chalk it up to one to grow on, but I would like for my surreal experience of George's carelessness for his work and carelessness for his clients to inform others in their choice for a tax "professional". And seeing as this is probably the best way to get in touch with George: Hey George, I want a refund on services rendered. UPDATE: George did in fact fix his mistake and pay my refund out of his pocket (5 months after filing) but disagreed that I deserved a refund for tax prep accusing me of trying to "scam him" (?). It is ironic that the person who diverted my refund to an unknown account in Minnesota, went completely missing for weeks before even addressing my frantic calls, pleading emails (then weeks thereafter) and then paid my refund from his checkbook is accusing me of shady behavior. Did he have to pay my refund out of pocket? Well, sending a tax refund to an entirely different bank then the one provided by the client is something the IRS characterizes as "Tax Theft". It would certainly seem it was in his best interest to do something before I did. I will leave it up to whomever reads this entirely accurate (and profoundly abridged) review to judge for themselves whether or not they think I deserved a refund, and, for that matter, whether George is their guy for tax preparation. As I said before, I don't like leaving bad reviews for anything or spewing any negativity on the internet for that matter, but I think people should know my experience here. read more
