Mr. Wilcox and Mr. Concordia to name a few :) i'm actually really surprised Balboa has 5 stars on yelp, considering that it's located in a not-so-good neighborhood and it was pretty ghetto and academically challenged when i attended (4 years ago) and fights broke out every other day. in fact, students had to be escorted to the bathroom during class periods..overall, it wasn't the high school experience that i was expecting, especially since i attended San Mateo High for a semester. but for those parents who have their kids coming here, i really suggest doing school-to-college because it's a really nice program that gives students informative suggestions on schools, SAT prep and an all expenses paid trip to the east coast for a week. the point is, if your child becomes top 5% in the entire school (which wasn't hard when i attended) then they're basically AT LEAST guaranteed to any University of California school.

Bad is the simplest way to describe our time there, but if we were to go into detail it'll be an extremely long review. To begin, a lot of the teachers act like teenagers. They're grown adults who continue to be in students drama and you can tell who is their favorites. When we looked for help in classes, teachers refused to help. A lot of them only gave good grades to the students they liked, the others, who spoke out against this behavior got terrible grades. There was also a lot of fights and teacher and student conflicts. Here are the teachers we had conflict with: Keziah David Ryan Alias George Lee All three were like a clique, they came at students and would try to blame them for their mistakes. Ms. David would go through students phones, group chats, and ask personal questions and say that it was because she cared for us. Mr. Alias always followed behind her and would justify her actions. And Mr. Lee would yell at students, curse at them, and get angry with them for his grading mistakes. I would also like to mention that my friend and I both had between 3.0-3.8 gpa before going to Balboa. My friend who was there for the whole school was below a 2.5 gpa after being at Balboa. I was there for one semester and had a 2.57 gpa, I previously had a 3.3-3.8 gpa. That shows how much the teachers didn't help us. We are glad to be out of that school and we hope they fix their mistakes.

I made a lot of great friends and built wonderful memories, but unfortunately, there are systemic, severe issues plaguing this school.Like many schools in SFUSD, this campus suffers from a complete lack of proper maintenance. The conditions are deeply concerning: peeling flooring, a dirty cafeteria, severe understaffing, and a lack of security that contributes to frequent student fights. Basic restroom hygiene is also an issue, with students regularly urinating on the toilet seats. Furthermore, the auditorium has been neglected for years, filled with broken seating and broken stage lighting left unrepaired for way too long.The exterior of the school recently suffered from major safety and accessibility hazards, including missing sewer grates, missing pipe covers, a heavily rusted gate separating Aptos Park from the middle school, and a badly damaged sidewalk. Because the district ignored these issues, I took action and filed formal ADA and Williams complaints. After months of back-and-forth bureaucracy, I finally forced the district to rectify these hazards. While I didn't know about these complaint processes when I was actually attending the middle school, I am glad I can now use my voice to keep the exterior safe, accessible, and up to fire code by constantly pushing the district to do its job.

When we visited last year, I felt the curriculum and opportunities(foreign exchange, class trips) sounded wonderful but still wasn't sure how my son would fit in- as the school is smaller. However- the school's been fantastic on all fronts- including the social aspect. Though smaller, there's a welcoming & friendly vibe between all students. I think my kid has MORE friends than he would at a much larger school where he'd hang with the same 2 or 3 kids daily. Teachers care about the kids and "see" my kid for who he is. The academics are amazing & yet the workload isn't overwhelming. Meaningful project assignments & plenty of available support from teachers when needed. HW load comparable to most privates- but not excessive. He has plenty of downtime & isn't staying up until 11pm doing HW. I'd absolutely recommend this school & SF Waldorf HS school has surpassed expectations.

If we were misbehaving during class we. Like have to switch it from green to yellow or sometimes even green to red. For some reason that scared me growing up, especially the popsicle sticks. I remember for "tech class" it was up like 3-4 cases of stairs and there were broken windows, a creepy baby doll staring at you, and to top that all of, we didn't even have a tech teacher. Our teacher would just supervise us and make sure we were on the right website, they never corrected anything that we did wrong. It took me a good 3 years to learn how to type properly as they never taught us. When I transferred to a new school in 4th grade, I was a little bit behind, causing me to not understand the stuff they were learning in 4th grade. I was put in a resource group to help to help me comprehend stuff the other students were learning but I couldn't grasp on since I was behind. To this day, I suck at grammar and English. The rest of my grades are A's & B's. I remember at epiphany, in the 2nd grade we were learning about how to tell time on a clock, and we never looked back on that in 3rd grade. The other day, I was helping my younger brother(1st grade who attends the same school as me) with his homework and it was about how to tell time on clocks. I was genuinely surprised as I thought you learn about clocks when ur in 2nd -3rd grade as that was the environment I grew up in. After I had left, a good amount of people left. 3 other people of epiphany went to the current school we attend now.( which I am not naming due to privacy) Now I'm graduation 8th grade, class of 2024 and I'm still confused on stuff i was behind on due to not having enough knowledge from epiphany. Who knows how things are now, but back then it was not very diverse. It was mostly Filipino. But that is a given seeing the location of this place. I always thought the place was huge, but when you are a kid, what doesn't? My teachers were great except my 4th grade teacher. She was a b!tch. So much that I still recall now that I'm almost 30. Maybe it was my fault? It was the start of me being rebellious. I remember before and after school going to the liquor store to buy candies and Marvel cards!
