Well, I've been hammering through my reviews to try and get through all of the outstanding ones…read more(that is the ones that I haven't posted yet) before I head off on my next adventure, and it seems that I have reached the section where I have listed all of the really bad places that I would simply not recommend. As you can guess from this intro the Rex is basically one of those places. Mind you, inner Adelaide, like many of the other cities, has been transforming, however that transformation does not appear to have hit the Rex at this time. It's been here a while, and I have frenquented this place on occasion, and honestly, very, very little has changed with the place. It certainly isn't a pub that I would recommend - it has little character, and little to make me want to come back again, especially since there are pubs that are a thousand times better in the local area.

Our meals arrived really quickly, a lot faster than I expected given the place looked pretty packed! My dad and myself had the special- a 500g steak for $20 on Saturday (there are different specials each day of the week). It was really tasty, even as a non-steak person! My mother had a chicken breast dish which I tasted and was also really nice! They also have a salad bar, which is a nice change from many other restaurants these days. The salads I tried were very nice, including coleslaw, which I usually find to be really gross when anyone but me makes it! Overall it was a really nice meal out and satisfied a group of varying ages and tastes. Also, there is a quiz night on Saturday evenings that is free, and uses multiple choice questions/answer buttons at tables. We didn't stay for this, but it looked like it would've been fun!

I liked the fact that there was a second floor overlooking the dining hall, and architecturally it was very nice. However, the lighting was far too dark, so dark that reading the menu was a challenge. It seems like they took mood lighting to the extreme. When my food came, all of my worries went away. I ordered the rabbit mince bolognese, and it was simply incredible. I'd never had anything like it, and once I started eating I just couldn't stop. The others at the table were equally pleased with their dishes, and there were no complaints. I'll definitely be heading back to the Tivoli to have that rabbit mince bolognese again, and to try all the other appetizing dishes listed on the menu.

Aside from the existential picture frames the renovated hotel is somewhat pleasing to my eyeballs. The antler heads and dark browns and black stripes have given the hotel a very masculine, almost beardy vibe. Not dissimilar to the song 'I Ran My Ghoul' by I, a Man. The Tivoli has a nice relaxed vibe and the still new function spaces are appealing. While we were having a bevy and lurking around this sexy man-space, a lovely barman told us all about this new 'Mexican Cantina' they're running, which involves a delicious sounding menu of Mexican street food like Tostaditos and Quesdadillas, as well as a fuck-off serious tequila cocktail menu that would have made Hemingway blush. I'm going to hit this Cantina business hard, and then return to this page, drunk on chilli fries and Corralejo Blanco, to add to this review. Unless you beat me to it? I have previously been in a situation with a group that had pre-ordering and all the meals were served ahead of time, prior to 2 of the party arriving. Everyone had finished eating before these people even arrived! Bad, bad, bad. In contrast, our group pre-ordered and one person was running late. The staff checked before serving any meals and were really accommodating. They also accommodated with ease, a last minute pre-order that was after their official cut off time. The food on this day was delicious and all came out at the same time. They also didn't mind us all paying separately. I have enjoyed ribs on a different occasion that were mouth wateringly delicious. I've also been in for drinks and other meals. Each time the quality of food, wine and service has been excellent.

The beer garden is nothing short of fantastic, and it certainly has had a huge facelift since the time it was your standard corner pub. The atmosphere has changed dramatically and it is much more of a trendy inner city pub that your local suburban watering hole. Okay, it is not the cheapest place to go for a meal, but it has this really great atmosphere and it is certainly quite a relaxing place to enjoy a beer. In fact when I was doing some night course as the Bible college around the corner I would regularly stop here for a drink, and sometimes even drag my friends here afterwards for a bit of a night cap. This is certainly a place that I would recommend.

His knowledge on wines is astounding and his recommendations were some of the best I've had the pleasure to taste. The meals where the absolute high lite. The food we experienced are far too complex and the tastes were far to extraordinary to explain in the small review. Each dish we were served was very different to the next, the flavours and delicacy of the meals were flawless. I have dined in here and got takeaway…read more Dining used to be harder due to noise but that doesn't seem to be an issue now. There is a real family atmosphere which lets you enjoy a private meal without "contending" with those around you. The wait staff are super friendly and efficient. The food is great. I remember having the soup of the day in a real cold one and it just did the trick. When getting takeaway, ordering ahead is a real timesaver and it all went off without a hitch. There are some great dessert options and the coffee is good to go.
