Especially when the cool kids 9 Peel st and Clever Little Tailors have been doing so well! Kaffana is like going to eat at your grandma or nonnas house. It's warm, friendly, unpretentious and the plates don't look like they come from a vogue photoshoot. The owners grandma was hanging out in the back! The background of the food here is Serbian/Balkan which means lots of meat! If you are vegetarian then you might find it a little difficult to eat here. They have a huge selection of tapas, followed by grilled meats for main. You are able to do a chefs choice for the tapas at $18 for three kinds (min of 2peeps). All of our meals were hearty, made with love and accompanied by a special secret recipe family vinegarette! The wine list is small but still gutsy, I would personally like to see more South Australian wines on there but that's me being bias! From what I could see on the menu there were no desserts in sight however they do have a cheeky adult coffee menu... Did someone say spike my latte with baileys?! I will return to Kaffana and try some more of the menu items annnnd get a cocktail. The Serbian one is made with walnut liquor!

Giving a two as there is no option for a 2.5…read more.. This was a massive disappointment for me as I had booked this place for a table of 10 for my brothers birthday. Having the pressure of "the guy who knows his stuff" about where to eat in Adelaide I wanted it to be a good night. It started out as just that as a few of us were early and were greeted by very friendly male bar staff who made us feel very welcome and helped choose our drinks. That's about where it ended unfortunately. The friendly staff at the bar then showed us through to out table where we were then looked after by a female waitress who throughout the night was cold as ice. Despite our efforts to be friendly she gave us absolutley nothing, no smile, short cut answers and got the feel of the night of to a bad start with the whole table thinking the same thing. Our party of ten was seated at 6:45 and ordered by 7:00 as we were told that the next group was due for service at 8:30 and we needed to be out by then which is totally understandable. We had one vegetarian in our group who's order came a good 30 minutes before any of the other mains. After our coleslaw and potato salad was brought out to line our stomachs while waiting for the main event we were thinking to ourselves they are pushing it for time if they want us out by 8:30 and we have just recieved the salads! Still glancing at the time it was 7:45pm and were told the meat platters we were all sharing were 5 minutes away....... It finally came 20 minutes after that. Flavour was good but standard BBQ that didn't excite anyone and we needed to ask for sauce to help finish the rest as it was repetitive smokey flavour throughout and the skewers were actually quite chewy and tough. It's a bad sign when the $3 salads are the highlight, and they were amazing. We absolutely loved them. Could of had way more of them and the bread. The final dig I have to add is the fact that these meat platters are served at $45 per person. Work that out when seeing the photos of the food and it works out to be $360 for those two platters of meat.... And a few small salad fillers. Sorry guys but this drove a talking point after by the majority of the group that embarrassed me for organising it and had such poor service for the majority of the night and such very few highlights.

We saw it had rum instead of the normal vodka. We both didn't like the drink at all... Rum is not our thing but figured we'd give it a try. We got a salad with house made halloumi cheese which was kinda different. Scallops were pretty good but not too exciting. The pear Gorgonzola was pretty good but I'm not a fan of Gorgonzola much so I squeezed a lot of it out. The fish was amazing! That was our favorite dish. And for desert the satanic garden was cute with little grape bunnies! Very cute but was just ok flavor wise.

When we came in at night there was a live singer performing and chatting with us which really amped up the atmosphere, and the dessert was lovely. Lunch was great as well - we got the duck (that sauce is divine), the pork belly (so tender and juicy), the squid ink burger (interesting flavours) and the truffle fries (just yum). Price is a bit on the higher end but it is worth it. Definitely a true contender on the Peel St strip.

Needless to say it has haunted my dreams since, so today after a hard workout my husband and I biked over for lunch. The first thing that strikes you while approaching from Kitchener Street is the lush, inviting covered wrap around porch; there is plentiful and adequately spaced tables located here (so as not to be forced to overhear unwanted convos). Next, upon entering this clean and tidy cottage you will notice three separate distinct seating areas: the main dining area, a smaller dining area tucked away by the kitchen and pastry counter, and a delightful and welcoming covered deck. We were promptly greeted by one of the friendly staff and seated straight away. Tap water, glasses, and menus were waiting at the table and after an appropriate amount of time our order was taken and special requests confirmed. This place is really busy but it seems well managed; the staff is very attentive without being intrusive. As we waited for our order we noticed the bustling and efficient staff who worked like a well oiled machine - dirty dishes were quickly removed from tables, additional carafes of tap water were dropped off without being asked for, and patrons seemed relaxed, very happy, and satisfied. By meals' end we, too, were among those happy people. My husband ordered a sandwich that I struggle to recall the name ;( it was a hearty sandwich made from perfectly toasted sourdough, grilled chicken breast meat, swiss cheese, garlic aioli, a mix of tender and flavourful greens, and crispy bacon. I ordered the smashed avocado with feta on the same delightfully prepared sourdough. It, too, came with a generous portion of greens. We could not be happier with our newfound neighbourhood brekkie place. AND there is a coffee loyalty card to boot!

We asked for a menu and sat down and noticed the menu was pretty much a standard breakfast menu minus the healthier or more foodie special options befitting a gourmet cooking school. So I went up to order and after we ordered I noticed there was a specials board (which you wouldn't necessarily expect to see for breakfast) which was hidden from view from the dining area. Luckily it had one green Juice and two healthier more interesting breakfast options so we changed our order. It's surprising they didn't direct us to the menu board when we were given the menu. The green juice was excellent, and so was the mushrooms on toast. The creamed oats were not too creamy, just right. The coffee was terrible, the worst I have seen for a while. A 'flat white' is normally not literally white! The 'crema' on the top was white with not a tinge of brown and it tasted over milky as well.

For my liking, they do a ripper brekky, the service is friendly and the atmosphere is typical of this end of the hills - easygoing, but with just a splash of 'nose-in-the-air', which I find very amusing. Before we first went (2nd day they were open) we had heard they were trying to push the kid friendly vibe. Although they seem to cater for the young mum audience, according to reports I've heard come from the owners, the young mum crowd stopping in for a coffee once or twice a week doesn't pay the bills, so they are trying to expand their clientel to include people who will buy cocktails and spend money! Fair enough too. I hope this place has legs and is around for a while; The old indian restaurant in this spot seemed to thrive for years, whereas other restaurant spots in the same area of Stirling have a very hard time, turning over every couple of years. Seems like you're doing the right thing at the moment Patchies, keep it up! And to any of you curious about somewhere to go in the hills for a bite, with or without kids, get into patch. Well worth a look!
