Unfortunately this is a sad story. My mother-in-law was in a rehabilitation center, NOT a retirement community. I live here in Myrtle Beach she lives in Roanoke, VA. I asked the florist to put together a nice arrangement to let her my mother-in-law know that I was thinking about her and love her so they put a nice card on there for me. Sent a picture of it before it was sent and charged my debit account which all are fairly normal things.... HAD IT MADE IT TO HER!!!!!! I never received a confirmation and it would have been in poor taste for me to call and say Did you get my flowers? My mother-in-law is not the type person to not call me and thank me or just say what a beautiful arrangement. Thank you! I never got that phone call and I never got the confirmation and I was waiting for it to come up in natural conversation about the flowers. I finally asked her straight out. Did you get my flowers and she said no so I called back the florist George's florist where I was greeted with a oh. You've only purchased from us one time, not a while. You're a first time buyer. Let's make this a good resolution with how can I help you. I never asked for a refund. All I wanted was for them to maybe go in halves on some more flowers with me to send them to her home now. (which is still right around the corner from them.) I got a "We can't help you." And NO I'm sorry it was just totally totally unprofessional and against what all these other reviews are saying. I just have not got the words for why wouldn't they do something anything at all? It was delivered to the front desk and instead of to her so who knows who's enjoying my $70 bouquet of flowers that was meant for my mother-in-law. So what a s*** she must think that I am. Thanks Georges for really dropping the ball here. Why couldn't you treated me like a customer that would come back.? I was referred here by my best friend from church that gets all of her funereal arrangements done here and has had great success with them for years. Went in today to inquire about a bouquet for my wedding. The dark haired lady tried very hard to accommodate me while I noticed a coral colored daisy that would perfectly represent my deceased mother. The younger lady said it would not math my day as it was on October 31st. I am not having a Halloween theme I told her it is my fiance's birthday. The grey haired ponytail man said we can not guarantee the coral colored daisy on October 31st as we get a variety each week. The flowers are fantastic. The attitude and customer service are not. If you want to pay more for better flowers and don't care about anything else, this is the place for you. If you would like to pay more for better flowers AND also want to be spoken to respectfully and treated like a valued customer...this is NOT the place for you. My family and I have given George's a lot of business over the years, and the service has definitely gone downhill. We used to be proud customers, but not anymore. I won't give these guys my business, and other members of my family who still use George's do so reluctantly (again, their flowers are awesome). My advice to you, if you're reading this review, is to spend your money somewhere else where you will be treated like they care you're giving them your money. I have never written a review on yelp before, but the experience at George's is one that cannot be ignored. I have never had myself, nor my CHILD, spoken to in such a way by a place of business in the service industry. To set the stage, the event was my daughter's junior prom, a special event for her and her date. Upon my first call, I was spoken to very rudely, because we were asking for a corsage and boutonniere to be made, with a full week's notice. I was told that it was also the weekend of Mother's Day and that they were extremely busy. She acted as though I was bothering her and that it was a hassle to even listen to my request. Had she said up front that they just didn't want or need our business, it would have been more acceptable. We were requesting either a custom design or a stock item, implementing some lace to match her dress, which we were providing. All we wanted was for the rose stems to be inserted into the center of the lace flower, to add color and sparkle around the base of the white roses, so that they coordinated with her dress. When I described what we were hoping to have done, she said abruptly, "Well, if that's what you want, then you need to talk to Doug. Go around the back of the Ramada to the design studio." Then, she hung up. First of all, telling people to drive around to the back of a hotel sounds weird and a little shady. I understand that the location is just such as that, but perhaps there is a better way to say it. So, believe me, I didn't even want to go, but they did need flowers. After school, we arrived at the design center, which is truly behind the Ramada and beside an unkempt, abandoned, railroad track. Upon entering, with my two daughters, we asked for Doug, who was not available. A gracious, young lady walked us through their options, which started at $45 for a stock corsage, which they had no examples or pictures of. Customizing quickly reached above $65. We never even winced at the upcharges, as we expected that; however, starting at $45 for a simple, stock corsage, seemed a bit excessive. It consisted of an elastic wristlet, some greenery, baby's breath, and 3 miniature roses. $45? Okay, moving on. When we asked to see their white roses, we were shown green, truly green, bud roses. When asked about the color, a second lady took over the conversation and began to give a floral education of how there is no such thing as a pure, white rose. "This is classified as a white rose." I asked if there were other floral options for the corsage, perhaps a more overall white flower? She declared that the only other white flower offered was an orchid. Really? That is the only other white flower? I could tell that she was getting frustrated and seemed bothered with my questions and the fact that we were obviously keeping her from something more pressing. To top it all off, a third lady arrived on the scene. She greeted me with a condescending tone, saying, "Yeah, I believe I spoke with you on the phone." Okay. Yes, she had indeed been the one to speak with me, and I was hoping to not have to speak with her again. She interrupted my daughter, who was graciously trying to explain what she hoped that the flowers would look like, only to proclaim how, and I quote, "STUPID Cave Spring is for scheduling their prom for the day before Mother's Day!" Okay, we didn't schedule it, and that was completely uncalled for. She proceeded to tell my daughter, to her face, that what she wanted "would just look STUPID" and that it "would look like it was made at K-Mart!" On that, we were out. We placed the order for a simple white boutonniere and purchased an elastic wristlet, baby's breath, and "white", bud roses, that were truly green. I convinced my daughter that, even if we had to make it ourselves, it would be better than what they would do for her, given the amount of care and detail given during the consultation. We left George's, with my daughter near tears, and decided that we would try somewhere else. We drove straight to Kroger on Electric, by Tanglewood Mall, where come to find out, George's purchases some of their flowers from! There, we were met by an extremely kind lady named Linda, who patiently listened to our experience with George's, apologized on behalf of their treatment, and proceeded to design the corsage and boutonniere for her. When we left there, I had no doubt that the decision to use the Kroger floral department was the right one. I called George's and cancelled the order for the boutonniere. When we picked up the flowers from Kroger, they were absolutely gorgeous, and Linda had gone above and beyond to make them special. They were exactly what we asked for, and believe me, George's will never receive another floral order from us or anyone that we know. My Mother's Day bouquet also came from the Kroger floral department and were beautiful. CSHS faculty, staff, and students and general public, take note. They don't want nor need our business. I live in NYC but my parents are in Roanoke, so thanks to Yelp I was able to call a Roanoke florist directly for a weekend delivery. Everything went very well: I looked at their arrangements online so I was able to name the one I wanted, and the gentleman on the phone was very polite and helped the order go smoothly. The arrangement, when it arrived, was beautiful and a good size. The reason they are missing a star is my parents weren't home when George's made the delivery, so the flowers were delivered to a neighbor. That's normally not a problem at all, but they did so without leaving a note! So I got a delivery confirmation (which I had requested when I placed the order) and thought everything was complete, but when I spoke to my mom later she had no idea what was going on. This kinda ruined the surprise and she didn't get the flowers till a couple hours later when the neighbor wandered over. When I realized they hadn't received the flowers, I had to leave a message on George's voicemail as they have very short Saturday and no Sunday hours, so that was frustrating; they did however call back promptly on Monday morning to make sure everything had gone through okay. I appreciated them seeing the situation through, but none of it would have happened if the original delivery person had just left a note or tag. In the grand scheme of flower delivery though, it all worked out and my parents loved the flowers, which was the important thing. I'd recommend them, but be sure their delivery service is on top of things! read more

I have dealt with George's Flowers in Roanoke for more than 20 years. I usually buy (online ordering) Valentine, Anniversary and Birthday flowers for my wife. I typically spend $65-$105 which includes delivery from their Roanoke location ($9.99). The deliveries to our Salem home are always prompt and on time. The flowers, the vases and the arrangements are always very high quality - everything is really superb. Occasionally I will try another florist in the Roanoke or Salem area, as we are fortunate to have several excellent choices, but George's consistently delivers the freshest, longest lasting and most beautiful arrangements that one could imagine. DO NOT USE GEORGE's FLOWERS!!!! I spent countless HOURS working with Doug from George's flowers to plan my wedding. While I had believed we had a professional and friendly relationship, at the end of our negotiations (literally awaiting the final quote) and days to go before my wedding, I received a short message from Doug telling me they were dropping my event because they were overbooked on my wedding day. They did not even bother to tell me upfront of the possibility that others could book me out and did not offer me an option of holding the date with a deposit. Now I am left with absolutely NO decorations and little to no time to plan. THIS BEHAVIOR IS HIGHLY UNPROFESSIONAL and DISRESPECTFUL TO CUSTOMERS. The person taking the order was very nice and listened carefully to my preferences. Although they did as I asked (no carns, babys breath or leather leaf) the design was not very pretty. It looked like the designer took some random flowers and stuck them in vase. The colors did not compliment each other and the arrangement had absolutely no personality. It looked like they were going for a jewel tone spring mix but that takes talent and a good eye. It isn't just taking a bunch of different colored flowers and clumping them into a vase. I should add that Im a florist and I would never have let that arrangement out of my shop. I should add that it was a $60.00 order ($10.00) for delivery). For $50.00 I would have expected a nicer choice of flowers and a little more creativity. read more

I give George's Flowers 5 stars because, I had a delivery made out to the church that I belong to for a special sermon that my church. When they arrived with the delivery they came on time, and they were very careful with the arrangements' placing. Some of the people who helped during the following Sunday morning saw the arrangement and were in awe. The flowers were not damaged, and everything came out great. Definitely worth the time and the money, George's Flowers will definitely continue to get my business as well as my Churches business. I wouldn't choose any other florist over them, the woman I spoke with on the phone was very kind and courteous and the experience when ordering from them was quick, easy, and precise. However, I have been disappointed with flowers and service several times when ordering locally, so I have returned to George's. I used them when we lived in S.W. County and was aware of the quality! The arrangements I send always get rave reviews from receipients and I usually get to see the flowers I send to funeral homes. I have NEVER been disappointed.
