I haven't reviewed George's Smoke Shop for several years, so this is long overdue. This traditional cigar and pipe shop (with smoking lounge) has been serving the Holland, Michigan area for 40 years as of 2026, and each "George" has brought his own unique style to this wonderful shop in America's best downtown. From the original owner, George Howe, to his brother Michael Howe, to Ren Mireles, Adam Lee and Erik Alberg, this cozy (440 sq. ft.) shop has evolved and matured. Current owner Erik Alberg, aka"George the 5th", had been a patron for more than 30-years before purchasing the shop late in 2025, continuing the tradition. I've done business with them all. The cigar selection (120+ facings) is carefully curated to feature some of the best cigars available. As George himself was famous for saying "They're All Good!" New sticks are brought in regularly and old favorites also are stocked. New for 2026, Jorge's Cigars are back in the shop! Cuban American Jorge Casimiro started rolling cigars at George's Smoke Shop more than a decade ago and since has become a well-respected cigar manufacturer. George's Smoke Shop also features a wide selection of custom pipe tobaccos including the venerable "George's Blend", as well as pipes and pipe smoking accoutrement. Cigar lighters, cutters, and other items also are available. The cigar lounge at the rear features a half-dozen comfy chairs, two TV screens, and plenty of lighters and cutters. This is my go-to place for sports! One thing that sets George's apart from a lot of shops is that all the regulars, whether they're 21 or 81 years old, are friendly and welcoming. So, if you're looking for a second home...this just may be your place. (I know it's mine!) And if you're "just visiting" Holland, check it out while you're there. There's a reason downtown Holland is THE BEST downtown in America...and George's Smoke Shop is one very important element in that well-earned title. PS: No vape, no e-cigs, no cannabis. First time to Holland from the Chicagoland area and had a nice day off with the hubby. We loved the shops and almost all of the people were welcoming and kind. The fellow at this shop was not only rude and condescending, the selection wasn't even very good and overpriced. We've been to cigar shops all over the country. This was the worst in every way. As a business owner, I don't see how someone can just treat customers this way, especially customers just asking questions that weren't so obvious in the displays on first visit? "Why don't you look?" "Why don't you just take a whole box NOT that one". Granted it was a mess. Sorry big guy, for interrupting your smoke Sesh on the couch to greet paying customers. Be careful asking questions in this shop. You wouldn't want to interfere in any lounging! read more

Adam, the owner, is the kind of shop owner you want to do business with. Truly a nice and giving guy, fun and always does what he can to make your time there enjoyable. Hands down, some of the best cigars I've ever bought. I've never had a bad suggestion for a cigar. The aged on 8th is a PHENOMENAL answer to the dragons milk cigar that used to be produced. If you want to have a good cigar and relax, go on in and smoke it there. If you like pipes, same thing! Great selection of pipes. read more

I arrived by bicycle, to restock on cigars during my tour of Holland's breweries. The shop was nicely stocked, but I asked for some recommendations, and wound up with a paper-wrapped oil-skin cigar that was terrific! It's been several years since I wrote a review about George's Smoke Shop. The selection now (August 2014) is outstanding and growing every week. The recent addition of numerous new brands and and expanded selection of accessories makes Geroge's a great place to stop while you're in town or your regular hangout if you're a local. read more

The staff at George's is knowledgeable and helpful. As a new Cigar smoker I was a bit intimidated by he vast selection and brands. Rene and Craig really helped me hone in on what I like to smoke. the lounge is great for a quick stop or simply to enjoy the company of other cigar enthusiasts. George's is a great little shop with a great selection of pipe tobacco and Cigars. Rene is knowledgeable and helpful. The selection of Cigars include several boutique brands and things not usually found in West Michigan. There is also a great selection of pipe tobacco, and if you haven't tried George's Blend, that is a must. One of the best blends I have encountered. The lounge is great and offers a nice place for a quick cigar or an afternoon relaxing with a good smoke or two. read more

Guy was not very talkative, which is a turn away when it comes to new cigar enthusiasts. There was a pretty chocolate lab that greeted me and I have a soft spot for animals. Unfortunately, I was more interested in the dog than the few cases of product. read more

I've been in George's a few times and must say since the original owner and his brother sold the service has improved. However the cigar selection is still very limited and the lounge is awkwardly small. Head north a couple miles for a better selection and comfortable atmosphere. read more

If you are looking for a good smoke and need a recommendation then Georges is the place for you. I may not have liked every stick I purchased but I also knew what I was getting before I walked out the door. I have my favorites now and make many trips to this store. read more

Great store. They have a great selection of rare and hard to find cigars and pipes of all shapes and sizes. Sadly the politeness is what ended up getting me, being 18 years old it's hard to find a cigar shop that doesn't judge me for my age. I ended up leaving the store with $60 worth of cigars just because the guys there were so courteous. read more
