I was an avid reader as a child. I remember coming to the library every 2 weeks with my mom and…read moresiblings and spending what seemed like hours trying to find the perfect books to check out. As soon as we checked out our books I was anticipating our next visit. When I walked into the Southwest library that feeling came rushing back. Even the smell brought me back to childhood. There's nothing like the smell of a freshly cracked book and the feeling of physically turning page after page. It's why I refuse to purchase a Kindle. The library is located on the southside of Savannah, basically across the street from Target which is connected to the Savannah Mall. The library is huge! Two floors of books, multiple reading areas, a children's room and so much more. The wonderful lady at the front desk greeted me as soon as I walked in and helped me renew my library card, which is free. You just need your ID in order to receive one and they're good for 2 years. Lots of help was offered to me as I walked the aisles. I knew exactly where to find my book as I browsed the website earlier in the week. But I couldn't help walking the aisles and taking in the moment. The serene quietness was amazing. In a world full of constant sounds it's nice to have a quiet place to visit, even if it's only for a few minutes.

The woman at the front on the day I went was either A. Having a bad day or B. Hates life, her job,…read moreand doesn't know what basic customer service is. I needed to use the computers and she was absolutely rude to me. I have been out of country for a year and didn't know the library changed to a different card. She proceeded to interrupt me when she asked me "ok well does your card look like this" I said "no, i didn..." "THEN YOU DONT HAVE A LIBARY CARD" and instead of helping me and listening to the problem she proceeded to just put me on a list for the ONE computer that everyone can use for 15 min? Out of pure frustration and lack of friendly customer service I left and went to tje Islands Library, which is the one I went to before I left country. The gentleman there was extremely helpful and I was able to fill out a form to get a new library card. To the Pooler big wigs, your community is growing and this library needs to be revamped. It wouldn't hurt to get some friendly faces too so that one in the front can simply retire and volunteer somewhere that doesn't deal with people since she clearly doesn't know how to.

Very unprofessional! I'd rather drive further off to a different library so I won't have to deal with that.
