Very bad experience in our rental, Mauldin Creek Cabin, and it doesn't appear to be an isolated one based on what I'm reading on other Yelp reviews. Smelled moldy upon arrival like it had been shut up for quite a while. At least it was nice outside so we opened windows and doors, but the screens all had holes and overall damage to them so weren't terribly effective in keeping bugs out. Bought lots of candles and bug spray, but didn't see the FIRST roach until after returning from grocery store. Otherwise would have bought roach spray and traps because they are crawling ALL OVER this place! Baby ones to fully grown German cockroaches and the spider webs are all over the interior and exterior as well. And these aren't normal little webs. These are HUGE cobwebs with dead things in them that just weren't cleaned by the cleaning crew before our arrival or within several months because these didn't develop overnight. Of course, it's the woods in the mountains, but I would think they could have at least cleaned a little better and completed some kind of pest control? I began to make jokes that this cabin is simply being prepped for Halloween coming up with all the bugs and cobwebs in place, but I wish I would have checked out Yelp before reserving! I never would have rented anything from Georgia Mountain Rentals and caution anyone to think twice before doing so!

This was one of many bedbugs in one of the upstairs bedrooms at Prokopf Haus. :(

I really don't like giving bad reviews. I read every possible review I could of Prokopf Haus before we arrived and I saw no mention of bed bugs. This rental had a pretty significant infestation of bed bugs in one of the upstairs bedrooms as discovered by two of my friends on May 5, 2018 at about 3:30am. They moved their belongings out of the room and were forced to sleep on the floor and in the bathtub because when they pulled out the sofa bed, there were dead bugs there as well. I have no idea how the cleaning person didn't see the bugs unless they just didn't change the sheets which is disgusting and unacceptable. These were textbook signs of bedbugs - actual bugs (alive and dead), and little brown spots dotting the mattress seams. There was no one answering the phones at the property rental office at that hour, so we were forced to stay there the whole night. The reason I'm giving two stars is because the property manager did give us a full refund and moved us to a much nicer and more expensive property for free (Creek Retreat). The downside was that it was not close to town like Prokopf Haus, so we had to stay in for the night as none of us could drive after a full day of wine touring. When I returned home, I had to leave my luggage and belongings outside in the heat wrapped in garbage bags for two days because I wasn't taking any chances on bringing that funkiness into my home. I'm not writing this review to be ugly to Georgia Mountain Rentals. I'm writing it to be helpful to someone else who is considering staying in this particular cabin. Please investigate before unpacking your bags. I wish my friends had.

The a/c unit that was not only leaking everywhere, but also had black mold in it's vents.

When we arrived at the cabin, we found the basement's carpet(where the pool table is) was soaked and there was no running water.

I was worried it might be too small, but it was just right! I stayed in the loft bedroom's king sized bed and my friend stayed on the queen sized sleeper sofa downstairs. We had perfect timing and got to see the leaves changing color and enjoy the cool weather (being from South Florida these are both unusual!) We cooked some of our meals at the cabin in the well-stocked kitchen. There is a full fridge, stove/oven and a full set of dishes, glasses, cooking utensils and silverware. It got cold enough that we made hot apple cider and lit the wood burning fireplace. It was also nice to have the hot tub to soak in after a day out on the town in the cold. The nearby town of Helen is an adorable Bavarian Alpine Village with great little shops and restaurants. We also drove to nearby Dahlonega to check out the shops and artists there. We were able to go horseback riding at the Sunburst Stables in Clarkesville and we also took a trip to the North Georgia Zoo in Cleveland - I highly recommend both! I can't wait to come back in the summer to enjoy some more outdoor activities like tubing on the Chattahoochee River or boating on Unicoi Lake at Unicoi State Park.

It's sooooooo cozy and cute in here - I don't actually ever want to leave. You're secluded but also close to town for anything you need. ALL supplies you need are all here which is awesome. The owner called us to see how we were doing and to make sure we are enjoying our stay. The surrounding woods were beautiful and the hot tube was a nice touch. That's it! These cabins must be owned by individuals because there was great differences in each cabin. Ours was the 3 Bears cabin and it was a dump! The pillows and mattresses were terrible! So old and rolled to center! The appliances were so outdated and the fridge froze our food and couldn't be adjusted. No dishwasher or w/d. Minimal and cheap options for dishes, that you had to wash w threats of $50 charge. Previous guest's soap was left in the dish. Gross! Who knows what else wasn't cleaned? The faucets were dirty and old and cheap. Sofa pillows had tears and holes. The walls and floors were so thin you could hear every move anyone made which made sleeping downstairs tough. Sliding door was incredibly hard to open. Terrible WiFi and you had to have engineering degree to watch anything on TV. Should have forfeited the hot tub and used that money to make the cabin livable. Don't book the 3 Bears Cabin!!!

We would definitely go back! We were a a short drive away from Clarkesville which had nice food, and of course we loved visiting the Old Sautee store, and coffee place across the road. For us, this was a great place to wind down, reconnect, and enjoy the quiet. We had no planned agenda except to escape the tyranny of the urgent and to enjoy our marriage.
