The only truly authentic speakeasy experience in Utica. The interior and ambiance are exactly what you'd expect if you were back in the 1920's. Well done! The drinks were expertly prepared with precision. Delicious! Service was 5/5 very professional and attentive

Restored speakeasy in historic downtown Utica! Stopped here after a Utica Pioneers hockey game, and it was like stepping back in time. Nice selection of beer, wine and cocktails at reasonable prices. The friendly owner, Mark, has done a fantastic job to turn this buildium back into the welcoming bar it once was. Be sure to ask him about the history as he has done his homework and did much of the restoration himself. Authentic historic decor and charming vibe! Definitely stopping here again next time I'm in Utica!

    Old fashion. Absolutely delicious!

It was a nice kind of small townie type of bar. It was some quiet and relaxing atmosphere. No drink menu's though which was a little unorthodox but the bartender said he could make anything they had on had that we wanted. My girl friend got a couple drinks and she said they were absolutely delicious and perfectly made. The bar could be updated a little but the relaxing atmosphere was calming.

Everything about this place is amazing. Mark the owner is incredibly hospitable and the food is mighty, even though the options are small. I love historical buildings and architecture and this place has the most amazing vibe and interior. Don't miss out!

    Loved this place!

5 stars for the owner for saving this little nugget of history. I met a business contact here for a couple of beers and a sandwich and was very impressed. The Utica Club on tap was fresh & very cold. The pastrami I had was impressive. The half-sour pickles that were served with the sandwich were some of the best I've ever had (thats a lot of pickles by the way). I could've eaten a gallon of the coleslaw. The server at the bar that night (Rachel) was a true joy to talk with offering some great insight to a nice city that seems to be on it's way back. This was my first trip to Utica and I will go out of my way to return so I can sit at this bar and have a sandwich & a beer. If you're in Utica or driving on 90...you need to stop in here....the owners & staff deserve your patronage.

My husband and I were taking a day trip today and we Google'd restaurants near us for lunch. Gerber's was on the list so we decided to give it a try. This turned out to be a great find. The atmosphere and the history of this old Speakeasy was great. It's not a large restaurant but the lunch menu and the bar had nice selections. The bartender/server was very friendly and outgoing. With a vodka/cranberry and a Guayabera Citra Pale Ale in hand, we shared a meatball app which was quite good. My husband had a beef au jus sandwich with mac salad. He said it was also VERY good and it had a ton of meat and NY cheddar cheese, served on a very fresh bun. I had a 1/2 lb Angus burger and potato salad. The burger was cooked perfectly, it was very juicy and again, the bun amazing. The burger could have been seasoned a bit more but generally it was a solid burger. Both salads were very good and obviously homemade/fresh (it just seemed a bit early in the season for me to be eating these salads). I would have loved to have seen more historical pics and info on display but they did have some. Otherwise they had what appeared to be a display of a local artists work, which was available for purchase. If we're in the area again, this is definitely a place we would return to. We're giving 4 stars out of 5 only because the burger could have been seasoned a bit more. If 4.5 were available, that would have been a better rating. Here's to hoping the area around this establishment grows along with what the individuals are doing at Gerber's 1933 Tavern.

The traditional flower for the restaurant name sake. Definitely a nice touch.

Although I was happy this place was open on a Sunday I was not overly impressed with their "brunch menu" options. I was very happy to hear about the history of the tavern and the Gerber daisies on the tables were a neat touch, there was not a lot of choice for brunch and the portions were extremely small for a hefty price. I ordered an egg sandwich which ended up being prepared wrong and the replacement left a lot to be desired. There was one small egg that was on a much bigger looking sandwich and overall I just felt dissatisfied. I wanted to like this old speakeasy from back in the day but I don't think they should do the brunch options. Hopefully their lunch/dinner options are better prepared. It was a good try, but a disappointment for what I paid.

Mark and JD made it very welcome dinner and great beers with a great crowd of people. You should go there

Nice restoration of a old school tavern. Good beer selection and good pub food. It's walking distance from downtown hotels.

Any other time, if you are not a regular, this place might not be for you. I've been here several times with mixed experiences. The last time I was there was a Thursday in the summer of 2024. My husband, brother and I were excited to find seats at the bar and order dinner. The bartender was a short blonde woman and there was a male bar back. The bartender did not acknowledge us for over 15 minutes. We were actively looking at the menu on our phones and talking about what we wanted to try and attempted to make eye contact with her as she walked by us with no luck. She didn't even say "I will be right with you", literally no interaction. She was very friendly with everyone else around us seeming to know exactly what they were drinking and happy to get it for them. We left as we felt very unwelcome there and ended up having excellent service down the street at Lukin's.

We found this little gem and holy toledo did we we strike gold. First of all, the hostess was super nice and greeted us right away even though she was clearly busy and hustling. We chose to sit outside at a picnic table to soak up the beautiful weather. The outside is fun with brightly painted picnic tables and murals on the building. Our waitress was very knowledgeable of the menu and offered great suggestions. She was great and we really enjoyed interacting with her. We started with rum punches which were made with freshly squeezed juice and they were out of this world. We shared the "everything" wings which were crispy and that sauce was delicious. We were tempted to lick the sauce off the plate. We refrained so we didn't get strange looks. I had the Kimchi Reuben which is made with house made kimchi I might add. My husband got the Nashville Hot Chicken Sandwich. We both opted for Poutine Fries for our sides. Guys, this food was unique and spectacular. I'm just bummed it's 3 hours from home! But I'll definitely make an effort to be back.

However, if there is a chance that Swifty's management may read this, along with fellow diners, it may be helpful for the future. The overall experience, food, and service was good. Clearly, this place and its 2 sister locations know how to be successful. But what we experienced could either be because a rogue chef or location manager is trying to cut corners - or - it could be the philosophy of the company to try and nickel-and-dime the customer to reduce costs and take advantage of those who won't notice. My boys and I ordered 20 wings to start, my oldest had a burger to follow, and my younger really wanted to focus on wings, so only ordered fries. I had the. Cheeseburger wrap with onion rings and coleslaw. Wings: crispy, tasty, and really good blue cheese. BUT...when they came to the table, the baskets looked light. So... WE COUNTED THEM. ONLY 17. My (as the menu clearly states) "half pound burger in a wrap" was probably 1/4 of a pound light. Wait til you see the photo. So, all the good service and reasonably good food was ruined by Swifty's trying to either take advantage of customers incrementally hundreds of times a day (order by order) - or - they have a location chef and manager who tolerate food leaving their kitchen that is not as advertised or up to the standard which allowed them to open 3 locations. It's one or the other. Will we be back? I don't know. We really wanted this to be great. We live in the Northwest Corner of CT, my son goes to college in Rochester, this location is literally (to the mile) half-way between. We make the trip weekly due to his athletics schedule. We wanted to be regulars. Will probably look elsewhere next time. 2 stars for the front of the house service. It was excellent. And the blue cheese dressing. It was fantastic. If you go - count your wings and make sure what the menu says is on your plate.

That said, a few small things keep it from being a five-star experience. First, I've noticed that drinks are sometimes served in plastic cups. I'm not sure if that's a consistent policy or just on certain nights, but it doesn't match the otherwise professional vibe of a hotel bar. Glassware adds a level of quality that really matters in a setting like this. Second, the Monday half-price chicken wing special being "dine-in only" feels a bit too rigid. I completely understand why the rule exists -- to avoid people ordering massive to-go quantities without ordering drinks or tipping. But if a customer's been at the bar for a couple of hours, ordering multiple rounds and treating staff well, they should be able to take their leftovers home. Once food is paid for, that's simply part of the cost of doing business. This isn't meant as a complaint -- more like constructive feedback. It's a good spot that does a lot right, and with just a few adjustments, it could easily be a five-star favorite.
