During the Spring of 2023, we decided to install central air/heat in the main level of our house and a mini split in the basement. I called Germain as other HVAC company's were backed up for several months. Germain HVAC, LLC provided a reasonable estimate of $17,545, in a very timely manner. They indicated that they could do the install within a couple weeks. The company had a few good reviews and seemed friendly and efficient over the phone, so I went with them.
After receiving the call that the job was completed, I drove up to check it out. Upon entering our home, I noticed there were muddy footprints throughout the house and debris, which wasn't really a big deal. But I also found that they must have made the hole too big where they put one of the vents in my new ceiling in the living room (see attached picture). There were no vents previously. I also realized that the basement unit was not Wi-Fi enabled as requested.
I contacted the office and spoke with the woman who answers the phone. She assured me they would repair the damaged sheetrock and the Wi-Fi could be addressed with Eric, so I paid in full.
After weeks, which has turned into months of me chasing them and being told by the courteous receptionist that Eric would call me back, I never received a call back. So I decided to move on and paid someone else to repair the sheetrock. I ended up purchasing and installing an aftermarket Wi-Fi controller which is not fully compatible with the unit. It does not work with heat, only AC.
Then during the Winter 2023, I heard a loud vibration on the side of the house where the lines were mounted to the outer wall. It is so loud that if someone is in the downstairs bedroom they cannot sleep if the unit is on. Months later I had an issue so I decided to call the emergency number since it was a Saturday night. It ends up that Eric was on call. He didn't realize who I was at first but when I told him who I was he apologized and told me he would make it right. I expressed my frustration with his lack of response, more than the quality of work, but I said I was willing to move forward if he would address the Wi-Fi and the vibration. He agreed to contact the manufacturer to see what could be done about the Wi-Fi and that he would stop by to address the vibration from the lines. Well guess what. He has not followed up with me to fix the vibration and he has ignored my calls and texts.
In hindsight, I should not have paid in full, until the issues were resolved and that is my fault. The lack of response has now pushed me to share this experience. The company presents well upfront, but they do not follow through on their work or followup as they promise to. Steer clear. read more
