Our server brought us a carafe of water and gave us her recommendations for what to order. We went inside to place our order, giving them our table number so it could be delivered to us when it was ready. We had a duo of German sausages served on top of mashed potatoes, with a bit of sauerkraut on the side and a couple of mustards. The other meal we shared was the Vienna schnitzel, with a few French fries, a little greens salad, and a side of mushroom gravy. Everything was delightful and tasty, perfectly cooked, and full of flavor. Looking out over the main street through town, with beautiful autumn colors on the leaves, was wonderful.

She prides herself on serving seasonal dishes on her menu and uses as much of every ingredient in the dish or other dishes as possible (when normally they'd be thought of as food scraps). So whether you're drinking left over broccoli stalks in a juice or the pulp from your juice is going into compost for their veggie garden out the back you can be sure less than 1% of any dish here is going to waste. When I went here I had a simple poached eggs with avo on rye toast. Unfortunately the eggs were a little too firmly cooked for my liking, but the dish was still fresh and filling. The coffee was also delicious. This place is very cosy with its pot belly stove roaring on a cool winter's day and a lovely friendly environment to dine for brekky or lunch.

Almost every time I go out for breakfast I purchase the muesli, so this had a lot of competition. The muesli itself was delicious, it tasted home-made and very organic. But what made it the best was the poached fruit they served it with. The fruit was warm and syrupy, contrasting perfectly with the rest of the dish. Another star meal they have here are the mushroom burgers. YUM. Try one. You won't be disappointed. The bread is all freshly made too, making it even more delightful. If you want to go somewhere a bit out of the ordinary in Hahndorf, come here. It can get really busy during the summer months- especially if you are looking for a table outside.

The walls are painted in blackboard paint and cool chalk art is on display. They have a really creative menu; I was fortunate enough to try the prosciutto wrapped nectarine served with a salad full of yummy fetta, radish, mint and lettuce. It was a real treat, sweet and salty, and just the way I like it! If you are after a coffee and cake, this is also a really lovely destination. They served Kitchen 2C branded coffee and a beautiful selection of cakes and cookies. Yummy gluten free options too. The first time I went to dine was just before Christmas. Just wanted to also note that they were selling the most amazing home cooked Christmas puddings. What a great festive addition. These were the nicest cakes I've seen in Harndorf. We will certainly return for their signature German fare.

Gepetto's has been open for a while and I have now been a couple of times - first time was with a mid-sized group for dinner with a couple of young kids, and the second was just me and the missus on a summer lunch date. I've been pretty happy with the overall Gepetto's experience to date. The first time we had dinner here the service left a little to be desired but seeing green young waiters learning the ropes and making a few boo-boos along the way is an encouraging sign that they're willing to learn and brave enough to make a few mistakes. You can't hold that against them! The guy running the show (presumably the owner) has control of the musical selection run from his old school vinyl player. First time we were there he was playing a few choice old movie soundtrack records. The second time was less memorable re: the nature of the tracks but it was old and it still created a highly enjoyable atmosphere. Credit for the vintage vinyl vibe. The best part is the food. Authentic, perfectly cooked Italian food. Bang on for quality and range. The price is on the higher side but worth it. There are outdoor tables for that awesome sunny day in Hahndorf experience (FYI it's always a little cooler in Hahndorf so maybe pack a jumper if you're climate sensitive) but the indoors is also well climatised. Desserts on offer were enjoyed by all (including myself which is odd because I'm not usually a sweets kind of guy - hard to say no to a tiramisu) It can seem a little crowded inside too but it's a negligible aspect of an otherwise enjoyable dining experience.

At first inspection, it seems quite snug inside, and we went in at 7pm on a Friday night, so there were a few Friday night knock-off-drinks patrons at the new (quite funky curved) bar. According to another facebook tidbit, there is still the same number of tables as before, it's just that the room has been rejigged a bit. We had a table upstairs, and the noise level given the time of the week/evening was acceptable. It isn't quiet, so if you're looking for a cosy affair, perhaps look elsewhere. But it is fun and interesting, with local artists' works hanging on the walls (some for sale too!). The upstairs seating also concerned me as I know (having worked with some) that not all waiters are uber-energetic at the best of times...but our waiter was outstanding. Prompt, friendly service with a good knowledge of the menu and, more importantly the beer/wine list (it was Friday night after all!) I have to preface this next section. I (and another dining companion) had a fantastic meal. However... There was one diner at my table that was disappointed. The fish cakes had little to no 'fish' flavour. All potato, slight lemon taste, no fish (I tasted a bit of fish in there, but my dining companion insisted she could taste 'no fish'). The vegetarian gnocchi dish was also listed as coming with goats curd, which another of my dining companions had ordered, but it came out with zero goats curd. It may not seem like a huge issue, but when that's one of the things that pushes you to choose one menu option over another and it doesn't come out, it is a bit disappointing. As I said though, the steak was sublime. Melty, delicious steak, with a perfectly cooked mushy and delicious béarnaise sauce was divine. That paired with a very reasonably priced Bird-in-Hand shiraz made my night. Literally no room for dessert. Overall we had a really nice night. It's a warm atmosphere and the service was really good...perhaps just order another dish if you're after something fishy!

I think looking back at previous reviews, they are getting better when it comes to service. I ordered the gnocchi with roasted seasonal veg. Lovely pan fried brussel sprouts, roasted pumpkin, spinach, and mushrooms. Best of all, the gnocchi was soooo sooo soft and buttery. Wow, it's been a long time since I have had gnocchi like this. Well done chef! So much flavour in this dish as well. What better to go with a veggie gnocchi than a carrot, orange, and ginger juice. It so so tasty and fresh. I don't personally want to have kids charging around in a cafe on the one hand, and in between tables and chairs on the side of a reasonably busy road on the other hand. I don't care how trendy it is and I certainly don't care how many young up and coming professionals are discussing the better stocks to buy since the global financial crisis at brunch; if they have children they should be watching them, especially if they insist on sitting outside next to a reasonably busy street. There is a level train crossing at one end of the block here and that means there are regular periods when several cars will be banked up and suddenly driving through. Half a dozen times I saw kids nearly get toppled by traffic while I was sitting here. I was most alarmed. There's such a great children's playground down the road, all fenced in and beautiful - up here in cafe la la land the adult were so engrossed in the food and conversation they just ignored a few kids who were evidently still in play mode. I have decided the place gets enough custom without me talking about the lovely furniture or the strictly word of mouth policy that the owners have - no business card, no brochure, no website... just word of mouth; well, the word of mouth at my mid morning soiree was "Watch out!" Seriously, I'd rather eat somewhere else and leave all the swank alone.

Herself was very happy with the prawn dish (as I was with the octopus terrine) and the bavarois was excellent though a little too much gelatin for my taste. Then once you get past the intriguing beauty of the restaurant, there's the food. With a seasonal menu, the food is fresh and absolutely amazing. Did someone say Crispy Lemon and Herb Potatoes with Smoked Salt? Delicious! Though be warned, the meals can get a little pricey but extremely worth it. The breakfast menu prices are on par with other restaurants and very high quality. This is the perfect restaurant to take someone if you wanted to be away from the hustle and bustle of the city and other suburbs such as Glenelg. Though make sure you check the opening hours because there are very particular times when they are open for certain meal times, such as they only provide breakfast on Sundays.

I will title my review three things: Suitable for sharing-…read moreif there is only two of you eating... Everything is recommended' (according to the wait staff...). Don't take your vegetarian or vegetable loving friends here. Ok once you get past the decor of this place the food is ok. But very meat heavy, hugely lacking vegetables and serving sizes are very light on especially as they suggest on the menu that things should be shared. Any restaurant that suggests that you share wins my heart. And this place does exactly that, however how you share those dishes is a little beyond me. The entrees would be pretty easy I guess, although the 'classic beef tartare' is very light on and is missing acid and a dash of spice and cornichons (and 50g of meat) and served with clunky, thick, white baguette croutons (NO! classic tartare has wafer thin potato chips). The duck pate would be suitable for two - three shares (again served with the same croutons). The crepe with langoustine and prawns was perfect to share and if a butter, cream hit is what you're after here you go! But I liked this one (i love butter). The prawn special was good but again nice and buttery. So what I'm saying is expect a lot of butter. They REALLY push the sides. Don't do it. When ordering you get the choice of 4 types of potato sides and two 'greens' being beans with almonds or a very dull salad. The beans are $8.50 and you literally pay $1 for bean (there were 8 sad beans on the tiny dish) and 50c for 6 slithers of almond (equating to 1.5 almonds) and they throw in the butter for free. The chips are $6.50 and you get a tiny little basket with the not very apple flavoured aioli. If you need chips go across the road to the burger place after. On that, let's talk about service. The whole ordering process was very rushed, interrupted and just invasive. We had two waiters 'competing' to take our orders and I think they came over to or table and interrupted conversations every 2 minutes for the first 15 of us being there. The girl was particularly bad. So at the 12 minute mark (#3 are you ready yet) we said yes and my mum talked through the whole menu with the waitress who now had 10 min + wait whilst everyone sat there and decided. On asking for recommendations 'everything was good' and she basically listed off every item being recommended. Mains were very vegetable lacking, meaty and heavy. With not quite 2 beans per person to share between the five of us, the micro green garnishes on each plate did not quite cut it. I had the duck salad with lentils and apple. The sauce was quite sweet and I will take that because I should have known with 'apple' on the menu. The chicken and lamb were all meat heavy. The corn puree was one of those 'corn smears'. STOP 'smearing' unless you are a degustation restaurant and the meat is three bites because there are 7 other courses to come. And the lamb needed something more. All meats were cooked perfectly. If this was a review on cooking meat they would get 4-5 stars. The decor is black, it looks like 'fashion dead taxidermy rats' hanging from the ceiling and just too much. I don't get the pictures and the toilets, for the price that you are paying per bean, are dreadful- especially the foyer bit just before you workout that the toilets are unisex (no signage) is messy and just dirty. I couldn't find anywhere to put my jacket as the window what we sat in was really really dirty, dusty gross. I hope the kitchen is cleaner. Wine list good. Missing some price points of 40-50 for the reds. Beer list sad.

Sharing of the dishes is polite suggestion of this restaurant and it made for a great experience. We were all very satiated by our meals. It was all simply to die for, the flavours were rich and the meat was well cooked and tender. Such attention to detail. There was a bit of a mix up with our order and the staff rectified it and adjusted our bill as a gesture of good will. Very focused on customer service and it pays to do so, I will be back. This place is a mere hidden gem of North Adelaide. I loved the mushrooms severed with the lamb, that could have been a meal on its own! The prices we very reasonable for the quality, the 4 of us ate for just more than $145 combined which is good considering we had 6 dishes between 4 people. LOVED this place and it's cute artwork and Parisian street art decor.
