I've been shopping there for years and I've seen a steady decline in the quality of deli and produce. Even after making the staff aware of a deli meat that had gone rancid they continued to keep that product for sale. In the meat department the raw Italian sweet sausage had black pepper but none of the other ingredients it should have. Most notably the caraway seeds. In the produce department items that are on sale are subpar. For example potatoes they will have dead worms in the center.Not all of them but too many in one bag. I don't expect perfect fruits and vegetables I even buy off of their last minute rack. Worst of all there's attitude. I am treated as if I had done something wrong to them personally. My last unpleasant encounter I had to prompt the cashier to include himself in bagging groceries. He scoffed at having to use my bags.He then attempted to bag tomatoes with cans. Upon checking my receipt I see he didn't give me the promotion price for 2 items. Needlessly costing me an additional $10.00 . I observe their demeanor towards others. They smile and chat with them, but fall silent when I'm next in line. I noticed that they've had a frequent turnover in help so the problem is in their house. Not mine. read more

I opened an account to make an online purchase for delivery. I input five gift cards and they were applied successfully to cover the entire balance of $193.01, after inputting all the information and completing checkout I was unable to continue checkout until I added a digital wallet or a credit or debit card. While here in Scranton for several months I needed to find a grocery store that can be reliably stocked and managed. Saw several reviews that were not high and still wanted to give them a try. The staff were friendly and even the shoppers said hello. The variety of items are on par with the bigger stores and the premade foods as well, almost reminds me of H‑E‑B back in Texas. The receipt says my cashier was Pat and am very pleased she was able to assist, she even ensured I received the discounts from in store savings. this place has gone down hill since mom sold out to fresh grocer. i get it that it was a lot for her to keep up as she is getting older but didn't mean she needed to throw us under the bus. i'll start with the bags. yep you guessed it. they rip. can't even take my groceries to my lil car without them falling out of the bags. shein has better quality. maybe they should take some pointers. my friend said the amish potato salad sucks now. i haven't had it. i don't think the amish are good cooks to begin with. they need to stick with making those good quality swing sets u see on the side of the highway. built to last. my lil sis has one. it cost my parents a lot of money but i guess worth it. they never got me one. back to gerritys. i'm livid they don't have my blue raspberry kool aid flavor squirts anymore. i used to buy in bulk back in the day. but here we are. bone dry. i don't want mio they suck. i literally have to drive to giant to get my K. This Gerrity's is a pretty good grocery store, mid-sized, well stocked, with reasonable prices. Nothing too great or too bad to report; kind of middle of the road in most every way. The prices are pretty reasonable, weekly specials are good, and the bakery has some nice breads as well as desserts. The plastic wrapped section of the Meat department is good, but their actual meat counter is microscopic. The Seafood section is a bit ho-hum, but still miles and miles better than the Weis Market a few blocks away. All things considered this is a fine grocery store, convenient and clean. I left the store with my groceries was already in my car when I was flagged down by security. I was accused of not paying for gallons of milk which I had under my cart on the way out of the store. The rude security woman named Jean told me to come back into the store with the milk. I was caught off guard as this never happened to me before and walked back in and up to the counter where I paid. Immediately they noticed the paid stickers on the milk and I took out my receipt. My humiliation turned to anger. This woman clearly didn't know her job and management is ok with longtime customers being treated this way. I have been shopping at the Meadow Ave Store for eight years. I haven't had a problem with customer service, and that is what is most important to me. The store is clean and their products are good. If there is any problem the customer is right. In other words they give the customer the benefit of doubt. And because of that if I do have a problem I'm confident that it can be figured out. In fact I didn't understand the charges on my receipt, so I called and asked if they can go over it with me. A woman on the phone was very nice about it and we figured it out. First of all, their prices are a bit high, but in a pinch they'll have to do...However, having said that, their service at the checkout is deplorable. The checkout/cashier area is the last impression you have in retail, and every time I go in there, (because it's convenient) there's a problem. Either they pay no attention to your needs, they shuffle you out like you're the trash, or they grumble and gripe at you. This kind of treatment goes a long way to make you feel lousy for patronizing their establishment. Add to the situation that you're paying more for products there than you would at Walmart, Redners, or Target, then you just feel like a sucker. Pay higher prices and get made to feel lousy. That's a losing proposition any way you slice it. read more
