I found Gerstain on Google and went with them because they were close by my house and I had an initial positive conversation with their team. Unfortunately, I had a very negative experience with them once I signed on for them to do my taxes. They made a total of 5 errors on both my personal and business returns, costing me $3,000+ that I didn't think I would have to pay. They were constantly trying to get me off the phone when I asked them to explain things to me, and didn't want to spend the time to walk through what they needed and what the return entailed -- which would have prevented some of the errors they made. Overall, customer service as abysmal and they made carless errors (like not including my w2 income on my business return), which ultimately cost me thousands of dollars. DO NOT USE THEM! read more

I have been going here for decades and when their raised rates, I tried H&R Block. Don't--they are not easy to work with. I had not understood that Gerstein's is now offering more services like consultations on retirement distribution, which is well worth it. Thankfully, they reviewed my taxes, made some great suggestions, and I will be staying with them in the future. They are extremely easy to work with and understand customer service as well as they understand the complexities of taxes. The fact they are offering more customer service and important pre-tax season consultations (so you know what to plan for) is great news. read more

I don't usually write bad yelp reviews but I do want to prevent people from having the same experience that I had last year. I echo others on here who have said something must have changed at this company -- we got recommended to them by a local attorney we know. They were helping us with our pretty simple personal returns. There were constant delays. When I would call, they would either not pick up or say they'd get back to me and then not actually get back to me. When they sent our return, thankfully I read it closely and noticed that they had forgotten to include that my husband had paid any state and local taxes, reducing our refund by thousands of dollars! They were not apologetic about this at all...honestly even writing this review is making me relive the anxiety of dealing with them. This was literally a tax return I could have easily done on TurboTax and they turned it into a horrible ordeal. After spending a ton of time calling them, I eventually got in touch with their employee Sam, who was able to fix everything and file our return. But would absolutely not recommend. read more

I have been doing my taxes here for many years and have never had an unpleasant encounter before this year. . I understand that tax season is very stressful, but taking it out on a customer is not okay . We all make mistakes, so forgiveness is essential. I would have happily forgotten about the fact that some of the paperwork needed to file my taxes was misplaced in their office, however before admitting that this is what happened, Gerstein rudely insisted in a very condescending way repeatedly, that the mistake was mine. And to make matters sting a bit more, he suggested that I did not know what I was talking about- so that is just not okay. I appreciate that the office personal did apologize for Gerstein's behavior, but I'll be looking elsewhere for my tax service for sure ! read more

My tax situation changed this year due to wife's passing. I was going to do my own taxes to save money. Had I done so, using the IRS website, I would have ended up paying thousands more. The staff not only saved me money, but just as important, reduced my anxiety to almost zero. Great bedside manner. I called/emailed them a number of times with questions. I have never had such a bad experience with any accountants and all of my life. They are incredibly rude God forbid you ask a question about your taxes you get the nastiest attitude. I called to let them know that I would not be submitted my taxes with them that I will be going to see someone else, that I am very unhappy with a nasty attitude I received. I went into detail and the response I received was out of this world obnoxious. And I quote "do you want me to give him the whole message or can I just tell him the short version". Terrible experience with this tax preparer. He is not well-informed about tax affairs. If you do not have a W-2 or 1099, he will make a mistake that will cost you. I was hit with a very BIG tax bill after he insisted more than once that the income I had received was not taxable. He was wrong. It was taxable. When I confronted him about his mistake, and asked him to compensate me for the penalties I paid due to his error, he pretended he had no recollection of our conversation. I have since found out that I am not the only client with whom he has made these kinds of mistakes. Be careful and find yourself a CERTIFIED tax preparer with a license. read more

This guy is crazy. My husband was busying and didn't pick up his phone and he thinks we won't pay him. So he will show up at my apartment in the middle of the night, and rang the bell like a crazy person. Seriously, who does that? Normal people would just write a bill send to your house!!!
