The protocol requires the patient to be in-patient until clearly ready to go home. Recovery was excellent. Far lower cost to our insurance company. Surgeon trained in the US. Didn't want to practice there because the actual care is so far superior in The Netherlands.

I guess it makes the wait more palatable although the wait wasn't all that bad. Talk to the lady behind the counter to begin. Give her all the require information and ID. Then, have a seat and wait until your name is called.

Coming from another country it's difficult to adapt to a different medicine style and practices, but I had no problems here. The doctors always listened to me instead of dismissing me. They have been very interested and always do their best to explain everything to me. :) although I have my own gp here I've had appointments with many of their other docs! The place is super clean and organized, friendly staff and nice waiting room.

They didn't really ask about family history of illnesses or take blood pressure or weight check etc when I registered which I found a little odd but asked if I smoked 3 times. I do not which I guess they found odd. You can wait to be seen between 8:00-9:00 Monday-Friday or otherwise need an appointment. They can do blood tests and ultrasounds in-house. There is also an in-house psychiatrist also. I had to have a number of tests recently and found it quite well handled. I find this quite a good proactive doctors with a friendly approach.

Bad reviews? So…read moreyesterday I went to DC Klinieken, right across from the Byzantium parking garage in Amsterdam (Tesselschadestraat). I went in fully prepared for the whole "bad reception, etc. etc." experience people apparently talk about. Instead... it was clean. Very friendly ladies everywhere. Downstairs at the entrance they were genuinely kind. Upstairs at the ultrasound department, same story: warm welcome, friendly staff. The female doctor doing the scan was kind, took her time, and explained everything clearly. And when I left, it honestly felt like I'd just attended a family birthday party, because everyone said goodbye so nicely. I think you'd have to be having a very bad day yourself to find anything to complain about here. My experience? Excellent. Better than your average hospital in the Netherlands. I'm almost starting to think that if I ever feel a bit off, I might just swing by DC Klinieken for a quick ultrasound check-up.

When it didn't…read moretwo days later (and only got worse), I sought out the nearest doctor, who turned out to be Dr. Kiel. My Dutch isn't very good, but he spoke perfect English (with a British accent) and was able to diagnose my condition. He also gave me the proper medication to treat the condition. I was surprised that he could dispense the drugs to me directly, but that is one way that Dutch medicine is different from American medicine. I was so pleased that he was able to see me right away--I literally walked in to his practice and was seen after 15 minutes sitting in the waiting room. I was afraid that the visit would cost an arm and a leg, but it didn't! I walked out paying a SMALL FRACTION of what CityMD has charged me in the past. Again, this is probably just Dutch medicine at work, but wow...

When I moved to Amsterdam from London my relocation agent had enrolled me at this health center for…read moremy GP. So never having a real say in who I wanted my GP to be I could not have been happier with the choice made by my agent. It has now been over 5 years and I have heard many of my friends complain about the healthcare in the Netherlands. Well ladies and gents, if you want: - to be listened too -don't want absurd waiting times for appointments - don't want to feel rushed during your appointment - action taken on your behave - feel like you are being taken seriously Then this is your place! I can't speak for all the GP's there but my GP Dr. Linnebank is a trooper. To give you all a clear example: I fell down the stairs at work and couldn't put down my foot anymore. The first aid consultants at work had urged me to go to the hospital or see my GP. So I called the Center the assistant was super understanding and soothing. She listened to my story and then told me to come over as soon as I could even though the Dr. was busy and my fall wasn't exactly live threatening she would make sure that he would see me quickly in between. When I got there (carried in by my cab driver ;) )She sat me down and called my GP who was in another appointment. After a short wait he finished his appointment and helped me straight away even though the waiting room was full. He assessed my foot and body to make sure I didn't have any other injuries. After which he concluded that he wanted me to go to the hospital, so he called the hospital himself to make sure they knew I was coming and could be helped quickly. About 4 weeks after all this I went back to see my GP as my foot wasn't getting any better. If any it was getting worse and I couldn't stand on it. Again I was helped quick. My GP concluded that he didn't agree with the specialists in the hospital and wanted me to go and see the specialist again. He picked up the phone himself and called the specialist directly in the hospital. The specialist argued that I just need to see a fysio but this answer wasn't good enough. My GP insisted that they have to reassess and a couple days later I have an appointment again. Now for Dutch standards this kind of personally help is rare and it is what sets this health-center apart from other GP offices. Only negative: the main entrance is not accessible by car, so in this case and not being able to walk was a bit of an issue.
