One of the best decisions I ever made was hire a professional photographer when my family came to see me in July 2020. Thanks to COVID, I hadn't seen them in 1.5 years, and now they were finally able to come see me and my new babies! I'm a researcher. Like, seriously, that is part of my paid job. So, you know I did my search for local photographers to compare the quality of their photos, their rates, and their timeline for processing pictures. After much comparing and debating with myself and my husband about our financial commitment, I reached out to Darius because his prices and photos seemed too good to be true. As a person of color, it was also crucial for me to know that I'd have a photographer who knows how to take photos of mixed race families. I feel the same way about makeup artists, stylists, and folks who have to understand how lighting, texture, and all that stuff can look different for people of color rather than default white models. Finally, I wanted to support black-owned businesses in the Bay Area and let me tell you, I hit the jackpot. Darius is and met all of my criteria and more. He scoped out our location before we met and showed me photos of backdrops and angles. He arrived early. He brought jingly toys to catch my kids' attention for photos, and he had on knee pads and all sorts of accessories to be in difficult positions to take photos at different angles. He was never impatient, annoyed, and I actually don't think he ever even checked the time. He was just 100% present. Our family of 7 included 2 babies, 2 grandparents, a dog, myself and my husband, and my brother. He caught it all and the photos came back earlier than he promised and he blew it out of the water! In fact, he sent me some photos much earlier when I asked for a sneak peek to be able to use them as cards to send for a birthday party. No extra charge, no questions asked, in fact, he went above and beyond and sent me extras. I've already started referring to Darius as our family photographer and will need him again and again... when my in-laws come to visit, when it's time for holiday photos, birthday photos, and maybe even for parties and get-togethers. He is the REAL DEAL and I'm hesitant to even post this because now he'll be so busy that I won't be able to book him for ALL the family events I'm envisioning! read more

Darius was wonderful at my 50th birthday party. He took great photos and was a lovely presence at the party (about 60 people, 5 hour daytime indoor/outdoor event). From start to finish, he was responsive and professional: totally transparent about prices, time, contract, etc. At the event itself, Darius was a warm but unobtrusive presence.
