Im really starting to think Yelpers are slipping. I just can't trust the reviews on Yelp anymore, especially when it comes to kid stuff. So, after reading the yelp reviews, I enrolled my now 10 month old for baby swim lessons here at Giammona Pool What a dissapointment. We will finish the session, but I will not be re-enrolling her here. The pros: Staff are friendly. The cons: The baby class is for ages 6m-5 years. This is too broad an age range and developmental range. The instructor is having us do things in the pool that our babies are not yet developmentally ready for. For example, blowing bubbles in the water. Young babies don't blow bubbles when you put their face close to the water, they just drink the water. Of course, the instructor knows this, but what can he do? He has to make it work for the whole group. I can't blame the instructor for this, he doesn't set the program ages, just gets the class. My advice, look for a class that has small age range groups, so they can focus on what is developmentally appropriate for the babies/kids in the class. Also, the locker room is not set up for babies, only one counter for changing and dressing little ones, and other people also use this for make-up and hair and the like, as it also has a mirror and an outlet. (and, of course, there are the occasional moms dressing their 5 year old on this counter! Really, your 5 year old can't dress herself? I know I could when I was 5.) And, there are other swimmers who just don't think about it and use this precious shelf space to just store their gym bags rather than put them in a locker. Not the pools fault, but just something to be aware of. (La Petite is one of these, but way out of our price range!) I mean we do occasionally splurge, but this would be a weekly splurge, not a yearly one, like a wax or a massage! :) read more

I love the swimming classes here! I came here as a child and now as an adult (to learn how to swim correctly again). Christine is awesome! She is very patient with her students. I highly recommend this place for swimming lessons for both children and adults. On another note, BIG thanks to Brian who was working the front desk today! I love this pool!!!! I have been here for about 12 years now and I stil love it! Now that the pool is remodeled and CLEAN it is wayyy better! The staff at this pool are excellent. They are a very mature group. Any questions I had, someone was there to to answer it right away and with full detail. I recommend everyone to take their kids here to take lessons. The instructors are excellent and the pool is warm! Perfect temperature for kids that are learning how to swim. They also offer programs for adults and teens. As I stated before, the instructors were excellent. They new exactly how to help me when I took my lessons and I did not fee like I was being treated like a little kid. There are many programs here for all ages and the prices are not bad! It is all well worth it! Come by and check the pool out! read more

I visited this place when I attended a toddler's pool party. I was impressed with the facility's cleanliness and appearance. The pool itself is massive and an appropriate amount of space was reserved for the party. The water was warm and the life guards were attentive and engaging. The party room is right next to the pool and with large glass windows you can see into the room or out to the pool. Great facility and great space. read more

Had a private party here for my 9 year old son 2 weeks ago and everything was great. The pool was nice and clean. The dressing rooms were large and modern. Everyone had a great time. No one wanted to leave the pool. They were in the pool for 1hr. The staff was helpful and kept a watchful eye on the kids. The water may feel cold even though it is a heated pool, but if you shower beforehand it's not a problem. They had the tubes, noodles, and the shark for the kids to play. The party room was great. The only thing I wish could be adjusted is the length of the party time from 2 hours to 2.5 hours so everyone could have some time to eat and for the host to clean up. We had only 30mins left for eating and clean up which was a bit rushed, but I guess we could have shorten the pool time. It took about 30mins for everyone to change to and from swimsuits. But overall, definitely a good experience and both parents and kids had fun. read more

Westmoor pool has 11 lanes open for lap swim. The hours are stingy because it's a high school pool but it's clean and reliable. The staff is great and there is a large spa pool available most of the time. The location of the pool is hard to find the first time you visit but well worth the search. Longer lap swim hours would be a plus. read more

It's really nice since they put the new pool in. Bit on the cold side for Lil kids, I did take my tot for lesson(in old pool) but the teachers are teenagers that mostly just goof off and chat to the helpers/trainees in pool. read more

Great facility. Everything is pretty clean. They mark lanes by speed for lap swim, which is super convenient; slow, medium, and fast. They have classes too running at the same time, but I was very comfortable in my lane. I thought that Colma residents received the Daly City price, but they don't, which is ok, since lap swim is still only $6. If you stay for the full two hours of lap swim, I think it's worth it. read more

My daughter take swimming lessons here because it's so difficult to get into the ONE toddler class that Sava pool offers. Giammona pool offers so many more classes than San Francisco park and rec. toGiammona Pool rocks!!! We had a private pool party for my daughter's 11th birthday yesterday and it was so much fun!!! Let me start by saying that the staff were very helpful from the get-go. They helped me unload my party stuff (cake and etc.), helped with my clean up, got the kids attention for me when I was trying to tell them it was time to go to the party room, and even helped me look for my camera the following day when I thought I'd lost it there. There were three lifeguards who watched the children like hawks - I noticed that my daughter and her friend swam over to the 7ft deep section and when I happened to turn my head I saw that one of the lifeguards were watching them too!! What I also loved was that they allowed us to use the noodles and innertubes (single and double), played the water-basketball, and then they busted out with this HUMONGOUS SHARK where they helped the children on there. You gotta give it up to them - can you imagine their patience trying to get 13 laughing children onto a floating creature?? The staff are so awesome. And as for the whole venue itself, it is CLEAN, NEW, and MODERN!!! Totally different from the last time we were there in 2003!!! The only negatives that I can say, if any, is that we wished we had more time than two hours - no one wanted to get out of the pool. I also wished we had known that we could have brought our IPOD because I learned then that we could have connected to their sound system and play our music in the pool area!! The hot tub room was available for us to use as well but unfortunately we didn't take advantage of it because, again, no one wanted to get out of the pool. And one last thing about having a party there - since it's only two hours you want to plan your time accordingly. Once your swimming guests arrive, immediately get them to shower then out to the pool because you'd want to give them as much swimming time as possible. Also allow time for them to get out of the pool, shower, dressed, and then over to the party room. Oh, and the party room - you can probably fit about 50 or more people in there. The new pool is really nice and the pool hours is probably one of the best in town. The staff is very professional, polite, friendly and helpful as well. The facility in and out is great. All the swim instructors from Daly City Park and Rec at Giammona Pool who taught swimming to young kids are great! The instructors are young but they are very patient and they know what they are doing! The lessons are very organized. Really nothing wrong with Daly City Park and Rec swimming lessons, except for the old and out-of-shape pool itself. They are buidling a new pool now. No complaints! read more

My 6 year old took lessons here. Very disappointed. Short review: -Terrible instructor -Poor lesson quality -Unfriendly pool staff -Pool itself is nice, water is a bit chilly though. -Dressing room is ok. I've seen cleaner and dirtier ones. Long review: The instructor was impatient and at times downright mean. I also felt she was a little rough handling the kids (i.e. Holding there little faces in the water a roughly pulling them). I understand she has 5 kids to teach, but this a children's activity, not Olympic swimming training. It's supposed to be instructive AND FUN! The list of complaints about the instructor goes on, but that's the worst of it. The lessons themselves were not great either. The kids were tought forward crawl (freestyle) and back stroke, but never actually allowed to swim. They mostly held on the the wall just doing the arm motions. Then there is a test at the end that they have to pass in order to move on to the next level. My child did not move on to the next level because of issues like not pointing toes well enough. So now it's expected that my child retake a class that basically consists of swinging arms around while holding on to the edge of the pool. I don't see how that's going to help my child improve any further. Going to find another program where at least the instructors are friendly and kids get to actually practice swimming the the skills they are tought. read more

Love this pool. My son has been going to their swimming classes since he was only 18 months....now he is 4 years old. He talks about his swimming coaches all the time and looks forward to his class every time. We started out at their old pool and this new one is awesome. Clean locker room and bathroom. I come here every week for my niece and sisters swim class and I have very few complaints. But my main one is HOW DO THEY NOT HAVE SOAP IN BATHROOM TO WASH YOUR HANDS. Ever since i have been coming here i have never seen soap in bathroom. WHY HAVE SOAP DISPENSERS?! SO UNSANITARY. read more

The new pool is great looking, however, there is no way to determine how someone can get some swimming done. I came there yesterday during lap swim hours (6:30 - 8:30) according to their schedule. When I entered, there were several people there who have been waiting for over 20 minutes trying to figure out how to pay so that they can swim. The office and information desk was empty and there were no signs on what to do. There were several lifeguards around the area but not one of them even acknowledged the presence of everyone who was waiting. read more

I swim laps at the Giommona Pool. It is a great pool. The facilities are nice and clean, and the lap hours are adequate. Everyone is polite. The staff tries to accomodate the needs of the patrons and are always helpful. read more

new pool is nice, way better than before but it would've been nice if there is a family shower room available, even a small one, so that i don't need to take my son to the girls' shower/locker room everytime. there's a sign thay says parents can take their son who is up to 6 y/o to the girls shower/locker room but people would start looking at us soon as we enter the room. read more

I've signed up one kid for Sea Horse and another one for Jelly Fish for the past few months. My kid at Seahorse had more opportunities to swim, as he didn't need much help from the instructor and could swim on his own. However, my kid at the Jelly Fish didn't have many opportunities to swim. The Jelly Fish instructor basically "escorts" the kid by holding him/her body 2-3 times out to the water during the 30-minute time slot, while the rest of the kids idled on the side and swing their arms to practice the swimming stroke for 25 minutes. I believe the reason is that the instructors are mainly high school students and afraid to let go of the kids and risk drowning. My thinking is if you don't let go of the kids, how can they ever learn how to swim. The instructor is right next to the kid, so if anything happens, she's there to do the rescue. Jelly Fish had a whole list of skills that the kids had to learn, but I didn't see them having much opportunities to practice, as they either were being "escorted" or swinging their arms at the pool side . How can they move on to the next level if they don't practice swimming on their own? Perhaps that's why the office says that the Jelly Fish is the hardest level to pass. Based on my observation, I found that the Daly City swim program doesn't teach a lot of swimming skills at the Jelly Fish and those levels below. Instructors either escort the kids out to the water or let them swing their arms at the poolside 90% of the time. I think this is easier for them than letting the kids really try to swim. Only the Sea Horse level and above have more time to swim. This is undestandable, as the kids at these high levels more or less know how to swim, and the instructors no longer need to "escort" them. If you really want you kids to learn how to swim, sign them up for either the one-on-one or the group private lessons, as they really put kids out in the water and really teach them how to swim. I know this, as my kids all took one-on-one lessons for some time. After they know how to swim on their own, then go back to Daly City swim for more practice only at the Sea Horse level or higher. If you don't believe me, try that place yourself and pay more close attention to what your kids are learning. To be fair, the facility is modern, clean and spacious. The price is unbeatable and instructors are friendly and nice. If you just want you kids to feel the water and have fun, then Daly Swim is a good place to start. If you're serious about your kids learning swimming skills right at the beginning, then I'm not sure if this is the place to start. read more

Not sure why there are so many rave reviews about the Giammona Pool. Yes, the facility is modern and the cost is reasonable, but you might be wasting your kid's time here if he/she doesn't know how to swim. I pull my daughter out from the Jelly Fish after she spent 6 months swinging her arms and kicking her legs on the side of the pool for 25 minutes. The instructor would hold her belly to swim for the remaining 5 minutes. She came to the Giammona Pool with some swimming experience under her belt, but she had never progressed ever since, because she hardly had chance to practice swimming. After pulling her out, I signed her up again for private lessons and immediately she swam like a flying fish across the pool on her own with instructor by her side. Yes, private lesson is more expensive, but $60 for 8 lessons at Giammon Pool is wasting of money if she is not learning much. Kids at the Sea Horse have more chance to swim, because the instructor doesn't need to take them out one-on-one. I feel bad for those kids at the Jelly Fish and at lower levels spend big bulk of their time swinging arms and not out in the water practice swimming and the instructor just watches them doing so. It seems it'll take them forever to get to the Sea Horse level and actually do some swimming. I guess you get what you pay for. There are actually 7 lessons for the actual teaching of swimming, because the 8th lesson is reserved for playing in the water. If you do the math, you only get 5 minutes for each lesson for a total of 35 minutes of the entire package. As a non-resident, it costs me about $1.71 per minute for my kid to get actual swimming practice at the Giammona Pool. It costs me $1.13 per minute for the private lesson, but at least my kid gets to learn and swim for the 30 minutes straight and doesn't waste my time and gas driving there. read more
