Hot dogs, lunch meat near the meat department were months old. Who checks this when they have a group of workers stocking the items? Overall it's a its a good company good on variety of products but this store's meat department needs to be better on checking out of dates. My wife got over charge on cut beef and lobster tank looked semi dirty or could be the old tank that looks like that. Employees are generally nice in the meat department during the afternoon but one rude employee in the deli area or near the deli/bakery. But overall the employees are always nice especially one of the assistant manager from the meat department. Good person! read more

In the kitchen department, the guy who serves the Chinese food is very annoying. He thinks we're suppose to wait on hime until he feels like he is ready to serve us and if he keeps that up people are going to find a different location to get their food from. He has no manners! This has been an awesome Giant to do my weekly grocery shopping. I literally have no problems with the store or its employees. I do my regular grocery shopping here. I even know several of the employees by name and they ask me where I've been if I don't come at my usual time! :-) It is always well maintained in terms of being clean. The shelves are always stocked (except during Covid time when there were shortages... just like everywhere else!). I find the employees to be helpful. The decor of the signs and ceiling in the produce area has a bit of a darker theme, but I actually like it now. Despite the color of the ceiling and signs being of a bit of dark motif, everything is still extremely well lit in that area. I really have no complaints about the store. Obviously, the people who have given this store a "1 star-rating" are mad about something that happened to them on a specific visit. Aside from those people's gripes, this is a much better-than-average Giant (in terms of being bigger, well-stocked, helpful employees, seems to be managed well). And it is a far better-than-average when compared to other grocery store chains in the area. The organic aisle is quite good also. I do a good bit of shopping there each time. They did raise prices after Covid finished, which I didn't like. I assume this was true at every store in the area and not a Giant-specific thing. They could use a better parking lot exit system when trying to pull a car out of the parking lot onto Devonshire Road. If they can fix that, then they get an Extra Star!!!!!! read more

I was there doing so shopping and decided to get some Chinese take out from the area inside the store . Big mistake it was the worst food I have ever had I am not even sure if it was chicken If it wasn't that it was the end of a long day and I was to tired to return to the store I would have returned it to the store and asked for a refund. Why on earth did Giant decide to move back to this location. Right off the start getting a grocery cart turns into a wrestling match. Who planned this dead end space? It s dark and dingy, isles are narrow, product set up is not convenient, limited product size and availability. Check out is a total nightmare with lines backed up into the isles. Outside, parking is tight and limited. Access to street is risky with a short line of vision to on coming traffic. Traffic backs up into parking area creating more frustration. I DO NOT like this new location and will be taking my business some place else until the startup issues get resolved. read more

I'm a big fan of Giant and would give it 3.5 stars if I could but rounding down because they always taunt me with the 'gas savings' incentive but do not provide a gas station at this store. This particular one is on my way home and I stop there frequently for staples. I like the Giant savings card .... woo hooo .... I've already saved about $25 YTD. Great deli section (including the sandwich counter), salad bar and hot food buffet (although I've only really had the pizza from there). I also like the bulk candy and nuts section where you can select your own quantity. The bakery section is also good but can be a little pricey for some items. read more

I was so excited for this new Giant to emerge and now after shopping here a bit I can give it a solid review. The Entry is a little congested. I miss the old style where I felt like there was a lot of room to get a cart etc. now it feels a little tight. The addition of Starbucks and beer and wine is always a plus! Also there are cafe tables too that you can grab food and eat there if you wish. The sushi is yummy and the Chinese is okay. Haven't tried the hot fold yet. Produce and cheese section are good and well stocked and the bakery has lots of options and are usually quite tasty. I was disappointed in the seafood section. I feel like they never have what I'm looking for. But when their lobsters go on sale it's on! The meat section is decent and I can always find what I need for a particular occasion. I'm not a fan of the dairy section I feel like they keep moving stuff and I'm always lost. I'm found now but the cream cheese was one place and then another place and then back. I feel like I'm always wandering aimlessly. And they moved the bread and it's so random where it is. I couldn't even tell you! Anyway I like some of the new features but I feel some of the placement of things and the congestion in the entrance and check out areas make it a little more frustrating to shop! This Giant is always picked through and nothing left. They never replenish the isles. The parking lot is always packed. I mean they don't even carry Bushes Baked Beans other than the baked beans. I like black beans, pinto beans, and white northern beans too! And I know Bushes carry them. The people that work there are so sweet that's the only Reason why I'm giving it a star at all. Very nice customer service but this store is an actual drought. Go to the location on Linglestown rd. They are more organized and actually have stuff in stock. read more

pros: Giant Foods has since last summer / fall reduced the prices on a number of items. One of them is Enfamil Lipil with iron 25.7 oz. also they have free wireless internet access in their cafe / coffee bar area. cons: Giant Foods has been out of stock of this afore mentioned item for the past 10 days and hasnt been abe to tell me when it will be back in stock. this is very common, especially when their tropicana is on sale, is is never in stock. they do have a pharmacy, thats far less busier that CVS, also they recently re-opened the chinese restaurant in the back of the store. and recently to compete with wegman's they have started to offer their own little coupon booklet that they mail to your house with discounts, promos and incentives. also with our bonuscard, we often get rewards, like spend 45 dollars saver 4.50 or something like that, if you primarily shop here, it can same you some money, but their prices are usually better than weis (unless something is on sale) and karns, but karns usually has better meat & seafood prices. also.... especially when you go to the Uscan and a young kid waits on you they let you use any coupons you want without checking them, so ideally you can save money on one product, when you coupon is for another. read more

what a disappointment this new Giant is.. where shall I start. The inside is dark and dingy, looks like a warehouse and has dirty looking floors for starters. There is only one entrance and exit unlike the old store that had two, one on each end. this means a longer walk to and from the store. no big deal really unless its bitter cold, raining etc, it makes a difference. There is no rhyme or reason to the layout of the store either. Selection- you would think its better but its not. Old Giant had about double the selection of bread items. Someone said they have sushi, yes, so did the old location and its the same selection. OH, they have beer and wine. yes they do but its not very convenient to have to wait in two long lines because you can not use the regular checkout for alcohol. may as well just go to beer world or the state store, better selection and a lot cheaper. not much to like about this new giant.. we need a Wegemans this way is what we need. Been going to Weis now, its not as crowded so I can be in an out in no time and since there is always plenty of parking it does not matter that Weis only has one entrance. At Giant everyone parks in the middle so you end up parking further way. Weis is nice and quiet, like having a personal store to myself. update- stopped in just for chinese food as that was always good at the other placed. another fail. its totally new people running it and a new name. got chow mein, was bland, fatty chicken and just not good. won ton soup was salty. the other chinese place at prior location had the best won ton soup. the broth was actual chicken broth, and the won tons were big and doughy and had hunks of shredded port in the broth. not this place. not sure why they did not bring over the prior chefs/cooks but the new chinese food sux and the prices went way up vs the old location for the chinese food. hate to be negative but this new store is just not better in any way unless you want to spend 17 bucks for a six pack and wait in two separate lines. Giant or Stop&Shop? Upon entering this place, I was extremely confused because EVERYTHING about it was the same as my favorite and local supermarket in my home state of Massachusetts. Even the store logo on everything... exactly the same as Stop&Shop. Giant is the largest supermarket chain in the area, and one of the best at that. While some don't like it (and I can see why), I don't mind and actually embrace the new modern grocery stores with the cement flooring and high ceilings. Even though it doesn't feel like a typical grocery store, it's the new way of food shopping. Everything here is very modern, welcoming and happy. I never visited the former Giant store that was across the street, but can say that people are just complaining too much about the old store being better. This is the new way for the Stop&Shop / Giant company to create their stores, with new signage and bright lighting. I thought there was plenty of selection for my personal grocery shopping (which is very specified). Maybe they don't have as many aisles, but the aisles are longer. Customer service people were extremely friendly, helpful and kind, especially Sarah. And the woman who was running the self checkout area (who I forgot their name) was also pleasant and helpful. They have a beer and wine section in the store, and even a Starbucks too. The store seemed well maintained, and very organized. I have no complaints about this place, and suggest it for groceries for the Jonestown Rd area of Harrisburg. This place was here for me and had everything I needed on three separate occasions on my vacation. No complaints. 4 stars. read more

NOT A FAN! I thought the move into the new/old location would have opened up into the unused space next-door. It didn't. I think the overall space is smaller, narrower isles with posts in some. The floor is saving Giant big bucks by not having to clean/sweep. Even when clean it looks dirty. THE ROOF LEAKS! and this is a 'new store' must be the old building that was recycled. Parking is a challenge. Main entrance to the store is small and the sidewalks are blocked with shopping carts. I feel for store employees working on the service desk - right inside the door with all the cold air coming in. Others have said there is a pharmacy in the store. I guess I blinked and missed it. Then again there are at least five pharmacies within a mile of the store. Another is planned for the nearby corner. Haven't they heard of market research? I haven't spent much time in the new store so I can't comment on selection and service. I think other nearby stores offer the same or better. They will get most of my patronage. read more

What can I say about Giant? This location is one of my favorites in the Harrisburg/Linglestown/Hummelstown/Hershey areas. We shop a lot for organic food and their healthfood section is always a plus for us. The only complaint that I might have is probably something I should have realized. After entering the 'self-help' area, the check-out guy told me that I had to many items to go through that section. I felt like an idiot! Regardless, I always seem to find a healthy amount of organic food, imported cheeses and all natural products. Their natures promise line is a regular buy for us. All in all, we love this location. read more

This new store is terrible. Every single aspect of the shopping experience is a downgrade from the location at the Colonial Commons. 1. The lone entrance is a bottleneck which is too narrow. You enter on the left which makes no sense. 2. The parking lot is MORE cramped than Colonial Commons (if that's possible). 3. The floor is dingy and dirty looking because they left the bare concrete with splotches of rust and other stains. It looks dirty even though I don't doubt the keep it clean. 4. The lighting is poor. This is because everything is a dingy color - floor, walls, ceiling. Just seems dark. 5. The layout of items of shelves is poor. Bread isn't at the end with dairy and milk like it is I the rest of the world. Some things are in more than one place - like cookies and crackers being split among two successive aisles. 6. Chinese food was better in the old store. I know Chinese food is hit-or-miss, but it was so bad and more expensive when we tried it at the new store that I doubt I'll give it another chance. 7. The bus used to stop at the old store but not the new. I know many folks don't care too much about that, but I often rode to/from Giant on the bus. To be honest, the new parking lot and storefront are so crowded, I doubt they could get the busses in there. 8. The front of the store has narrow sidewalks a different no overhang, so there's nowhere to wait for rides or whatever. 9. There are support columns in the middle of some aisles, and the aisles are narrower. 10. The checkout area is too close to the end of the aisles, so it quickly gets crowded. OK, that's 10 things, but I could go on. I sent them an email with some of these issues, and they responded that the new store is great and wonderful. They are delusional. Beer? You can get better selection and lower prices 100 feet away at Beer Express. Wine? State store right across the street. Starbucks? Also across the street. Drugs? Rite Aid a few hundred feet away and a CVS coming to the already crowded parking lot. They were so focused on beer, wine and Starbucks that they ruined the entire shopping experience. It's like shopping in a 3rd world store. We call it Albania. Giant on Union Deposit or Weis right behind are a better place to shop by a wide margin. read more

Didn't know why they moved this to the new location but I do not like it. Very dark and gloomy. Some staff are friendly unlike the racist staff they had before in the previous location which is now a crafts store. This is where they had the old Gander location and it definitely doesn't feel like a giant. Yeah, everything is modern and looks cool but it's just too crowded, isles are narrow and the store is just too small. They downgraded in my opinion. Worst giant in the area - they are constantly restocking during busy times, which is odd because they are constantly out of basic staples (bread, certain butters, strawberry jelly, steaks, etc). I swear I never am able to complete my grocery shopping at giant I always have to add weis or costco in too due to giant being out of something. Also the people that come here a rude. I was in self scan and before I was even finished some lady was standing right beside me and was waiting for me to pay, really? I hate this place.. I miss pathmark so much more now. read more

Usually when I go to this particular Giant, they have the Kale Salad on their menu in the deli section. Well today I was very disappointed because when I went to get it the response was "we're waiting for someone to come in who knows how to make it". That really ticked me off. If you're going to work in the deli section you should know all aspects of how to do your job including recipes. If they ran out the night before they should have made sure someone knew how to make if for the next day, I don't appreciate taking the time to go up there just for that one salad only to turn around and go home. You lost about $10 worth of service today just by that one mistake alone, might not seem to be so important to a company who makes millions, however, I shop at this Giant on a regular basis and would like to have salads that are supposed to be there to be there. read more

The new Giant food store on Jonestown Road is horrible. The parking lot is so small & the parking spaces are so narrow. If you drive anything larger than a Fiat; is a serious challenge. The front of the store is so close to the actual parking lot. It's a nightmare just to maneuver around in the parking lot. Inside the store feels cramped & claustrophobic. The aisles are very narrow and long. The seafood & meat cases are small. The store has a warehouse feel. The shopping experience does not match the over in-flated grocery prices. I use to live 5 mins from the Linglestown giant. I love that location. It is a super store & it has the gas. This new location is logistically ill-fitted and provides a very poor shopping experience. #Very disappointed read more

this review is for the NEW giant that opened up in the new gander mtn building. Giant had a great opportunity here, but blew it. Seems like they were more interested in making space to sell beer to boost their profits than to make it a nicer store for the grocery shoppers. Not sure where to start..... 1) Traffic there is terrible - if you are trying to pull out onto devonshire, it backs up into the parking lot. 2) The parking lot - they only have one entrance into the store - which makes parking a bigger issue because everyone is trying to park near the single entrance - I don't mind parking farther away, but it just doesn't make sense. 3) The main entrance - you enter on the left (instead of the right) - it is customary to always enter on the right - it is so counter intuitive, they had to put up home made paper signs for people to get it. 4) there is less room from the end of the checkout lane to the end of the aisles - means alot more wrapping around - it's just a mess. 5) floor is horrible - it's the old floor - looks different in different places, in some places you see the aggregate, others old rust spots, it is just plain terrible - they should have applied a coating or something - makes it seem like a warehouse. 6) Lighting is not as good - it's a dimmer store 7) product placement - they moved things around - which is fine, but some of the moves make no sense - for example, bread is in aisle 3 - everyone knows bread is normally at the end so that you don't crush it. 8) less product selection - they reduced the product selection for some items - I beleive that is because it appears they have less total shelf space for groceries than they did before. 9) I noticed one of the parking lot cart corral's is on a slight parking lot grade - meaning when I pushed the cart in, it started to roll backwards 10) aisle width is inconsistent - some aisles are narrow, some a bit wider - just doesn't make sense - but the narrow ones are quite narrow. again, I suspect they have less total sq footage for groceries and are trying to compensate. I have talked to no less than 5 other friends and families, whom when I asked if they liked the new giant, started into a tirade about how bad it is - so it's not just me! Update 1/3/17: I have really tried to give this place a chance, but I just keep finding more and more annoyances. The cart logistics is terrible. when you walk in they have just two single rows of cars - one for the normal size carts and one for the smaller ones. the place where these carts are stored is so narrow, only one person can get a cart at a time. the place is so narrow, that when they are getting low on carts and you have to walk 20 ft into get a cart, you have to backup 20 feet - you can't even turn around with the cart to walk towards the entrance. I also noticed that the main traffic aisle that runs perpendicular to the front of the store is not very wide. When cars are coming out of the parking lot lanes, they cannot turn onto the main aisle if there is another car there (in the other lane) because it is very hard to turn right and stay in the lane. The traffic there is one of the biggest issues - everything, traffic, people are all funneled through the narrow spot in the front of the store which backs ups. Another reviewer said they would stay away until these startup issues are fixed, but I am afraid that the issues are unfixable because they are inherent with the physical design of the store and parking lot which are not easy/quick fixes. As one poster mentioned, I suppose we need a wegmen's here to provide giant with some real competition. I have already started going to weis and karns more already since Giant has moved and may consider abandoning giant all together. (I am going to change pharmacy's when my prescriptions are up for refill to rite-aid just around the corner - no longer makes sense to go to giant for prescriptions - just way too inconvenient). Maybe in the short term their high profit beer sales will allow them to break even with the grocery business they are losing, but I think in the long term this is going to hurt them. read more

I'm reviewing the new location across the street, formerly Gander Mtn, 5005 Jonestown Road. New location just opened this past Friday, went to check it out... How disappointing! Parking lot was packed, which I understand because it was the grand opening. Store is so TINY! Could barely walk through aisles, everything seemed so scrunched in. Don't visit if you're claustrophobic! I read that they moved locations from across the street due to parking lot being too small... what they made up for in parking, they lost in store space. The only benefit is that they sell wine and beer, but you have to check out separately at cafe. I see it as a total DOWNGRADE! read more
