Dr. Meridith filled two cavities. Dr. Meridith and Holly, her hygienist worked together so well it was amazing. During the entire procedure, I felt NO PAIN. I was so glad I changed dentist, because the dentist at the office I left wanted to pull both teeth instead of filling the cavities. One of those teeth has a $1000 crown, which I wasn't anxious to lose. Dr. Meridith was gentle and concerned about my well-being. She ask me several times "how are you doing or are you OK?". I'm 78 so I've seen a lot of dentists over the years and yes, I have had some good dentists, but the Dentists and staff at Dr. Gibbs office are the most caring that I have ever encountered. Taylor, the receptionist, makes you feel comfortable as soon as you enter the office. Lonni Beth, the hygienist that cleaned my teeth on my first visit was great. She was very careful not to hurt me. My last visit they used some new cleaning procedure that felt like it stripped away my enamel. I think they called it a baking soda wash. Not sure though. This will be my final response to your situation. You requested that I call you regarding your upper hybrid breakdown, which I did. You then became very contentious when I did return your call, especially since you have had no contact with our office in 17 years. You were referred to me by Dr. Ed Mills in Atlanta, who, over a period of time placed eleven implants in your upper arch and four implants in your lower arch. I examined you on 11/19/2004, and we discussed the restorative care that we could provide. Evidently, you had a previous relationship with Dr. Jaime Feinzaig in Costa Rica because the very next day, 11/20/2004, we received a fax from him describing the size, locations and a request from Dr. Mills to construct a cemented hybrid or have a removable daily restoration which you did not want since you were in a removable denture. In 2004-2005 we did not have the ability to digitally fabricate screw down prosthetics like today. There was no milling of PMMA (acrylic) or milling of state of the art Zirconia. Your upper arch was constructed as a fabricated acrylic denture bonded to precious metal in analog construction. At that time we could not get Zimmer abutments, even angled ones, all of which were back ordered for up to 6 weeks. Root Lab did a great job in fabricating custom abutments and the substructure for your hybrid. Also, according to your time frame, you had to return to Costa Rica on 3/28/2005. (252) 633-5544 | Fax: (252) 633-9788 | www.gibbsdentistry.com * A new upper denture which was a copy of your existing denture; 4 porcelain fused to metal implant crowns cemented on Zimmer standard abutments; and * A lab processed acrylic hybrid to metal to soften your strong lower bite This hybrid was cemented with a thin temporary cement which would make it easy to remove to make any repairs and provide maintenance to the implants. This was the standard of care 18 years ago. On 3/25/2005, 8/18/2005 and 12/1/2005 we recommended removal of the hybrid every two years. May 24, 2006, at a preventive maintenance visit with our hygiene department was the last contact you had with our office. Living in Pine Knoll Shores, NC at that time, it would have made sense to see us if you were having issues with your upper hybrid. I could have easily removed it and with our lab here, make any repairs at no expense. You mentioned that the restoration had never been taken off but, on 9/12/2008, a Dr. Gomez in Costa Rica called our office requesting the brand of cement we used to secure the hybrid, since it had come off twice under his care. This is a factual note in your chart. During this time, I would have been glad to help you had you been available. Hopefully, Dr. Gragg can remove the hybrid and convert the situation to a 3D printed PMAA or a milled Zirconia restoration. I love these folks! I first went to Gibbs when I moved to New Bern in late '14. I had a chipped front tooth that I was concerned was getting worse. Their staff was so accommodating, so fast but family friendly, and the office so classy, I thought for sure I'd be sticker shocked when the doctor in hushed tone asked for a price to be worked up before they started... I was shocked!...at how reasonable it was. They took care to ease my concerns, and to perfectly match the color of my tooth for the filling. Since then, they have become our family dentist. The offices are great. Exam rooms have a beautiful view. I discovered the reason. The prices are outrageous. I asked Dr Gibbs about the cost and I was told that he does not have to justify his prices to anyone. It must be nice to be in a business where you can take people's money without justification. I left with an aching tooth because I wasn't going to put up with this attitude. Followup..... I got the work done for less than half of what Gibbs wanted. I recently got my wisdom tooth pulled by Dr. Gibbs and his team. I have to say that every single person in that office greeted me and made me feel very welcomed and safe (I'm terrified of any procedures.) The day after my procedure, Dr. Gibbs called me himself to check on me, and it was a Saturday when they were closed. I made a new patient appt. here because heard the staff was very nice and accommodating. I called morning of my appt. to reschedule due to no childcare and was informed I would be charged up to $100 to reschedule/cancel. When I made my appointment I was not informed of the offices' cancellation/reschedule policy. The staff in no way was helpful or willing to work with me. Being part of the medical community myself, I am very disappointed in the way my situation was handled because I know first hand what can/can't be done regarding scheduling/rescheduling a patient. Very Poor..... Had broken a tooth and needed a repair. I am a full time RVer and was leaving the area and would not be back for about a year. He put what I call an extension filling on the tooth, as it was a front tooth and told me it should last until I come back for a crown. All well and good. About a month later, I was using dental floss and the entire restore he did broke off. I called him and they passed me to an assistant. She said that the repair COULD last up to a year. everyone at the office here is wonderful, however, they have a very different way of cleaning your teeth. they use a baking soda wash to basically power wash your teeth rather then the conventional method. one person sprays your teeth, while a second is there to suck up all of the liquid that is being sprayed in your mouth. it tastes salty and is messy, it splashes off of your teeth and on your face. i simply don't like the way they clean teeth here. read more
