In no way was I expecting a five star meal at this resturant. We just wanted to dine in a nice restaurant with a view of Lake Maggiore while in Laveno, Italy. ( an hour north of Milan) Wow! Was I pleasantly surprised! If you are anywhere near Milan, make sure to take time to jump on the train from Milano Cadorna in Milan to Laveno ( the last stop). You can walk from the Laveno train station along the promenade next to the lake (lungolago de angelis) to piazza marchetti to get to Hostaria del Golfo. it is a nice 5 minute stroll from the train. The food presentation was artistic. The quality was amazingly fresh. The service was impecable. I recommend the fresh fish that they serve directly from Lake Maggiore. The strawberry Risotto with gelato parmesan was just amazing!! The entire meal for two, including appitiser, second course, wine, desert and expresso was only 60 euros . After eating the meal, i was expecting to see a check for ten times that price based on similar restaurants in New York. Again. I highly recommend this amazing resturant! I rarely give five stars, this is one of the few.

The crust was soft with just the right amount of chew. Ingredients were obviously fresh. We were treated like family by both the host and servers. We have a second stop in Stresa next week and will absolutely go back.
