I loved my seafood chowder! So yummy! I definitely highly recommend going there for the seafood chowder! Boyfriend loved the bit of chowder I left for him too (we usually share.) However, he wasn't stoked with his fish and chips (fish portions were pretty small and he said flavourless.) Price over all is a bit steep for that's offered. Service was good. They didn't have ANY cider in stock at the time, which was disappointing. I settled for French wine. Would recommend this place on the seafood chowder alone though, heck ya! We chose to eat in Gilbert's Bistro after visiting the Cobh Heritage Centre, but before our visit to St Coleman's and The Titanic Experience. A full stomach before going into battle, as they say. We found the food to be very good and the Bulmer's cold. Nice! Service was crisp, even though it was still crowded with the end of lunch patrons. We started with our drinks, followed by their Caprese Sandwich, which was served with presto, instead of Basil leaves. I had a Ham and Hard Boiled Egg sandwich. We shared a bite of each other's and the Caprese won, but only by points in extra time. Gilbert's has a full bar, with espresso machine and the prices seemed reasonable. If we had stayed in Cobh, we definitely would have come back for more. Enjoy! read more

My husband and I loved this adorable eatery! While sightseeing around Southern Ireland, we stopped by the beautiful town of Cobh for lunch. We wandered around the main square looking for a restaurant to try and decided that Gilbert's looked very inviting. Upon walking in, we were warmly greeted by the owner. She sat us at a lovely table by the window and told us her recommended dishes. We shared the Irish Stew, Caesar Salad w/Anchovies, Broccoli & Sweet Onion Soup w/Guinness Bread, and the Chicken Wrap w/Fries. Everything was so delicious. Not only was the food, service, and ambiance top-notch, but we loved the music playlist. Everything from Bob Marley to the Cranberries played during our meal. Definitely give Gilbert's a try when you're in Cobh. Such a great place! read more

We had a lovely family dinner on the front patio on a perfectly warm and sunny early evening. The Irish stew is made with Guinness beer and it was amazing. We did family style with about seven different items and every one of them were phenomenal. Our server was super friendly and we enjoyed our time talking with her. The only negative is they do not have anything on draft if that's what you might be looking for. And if so, no worries the Rob Roy a few feet away is the perfect spot for that. read more

GILBERT'S Gilbert's is the newest restaurant in Cobh and we made a snap decision to drop down there last night and it worked out well. The bistro style Pearse Square establishment, which claims to be different, has a couple of attractive early bird offers though we went for the a la carte option. Lamb Kidney and Smoked Pancetta Salad €6.50 in a creamy brandy sauce Salmon and Tiger Prawn Mousse €6.95 infused with fresh herbs, chilli and chive vinaigrette These were our starters. The mousse was excellent but the Kidney and Pancetta was certainly different and very very good - I really loved that sauce. Pan-fried Fillet of Halibut €23.95 with savoury risotto, creamy shellfish sauce This was the main course. Each plate had two big chunks of fresh halibut, a sparingly used sauce, and was served with vegetables and potatoes, giving quite a substantial course. The Risotto wasn't bad though a bit too strongly flavoured, taking away somewhat from the fish. I'd have preferred something like Ratatouille or some other tomato based accompaniment. No room for dessert but we enjoyed our coffees. Service was very friendly, discreet and excellent all through. read more

Totally unassuming. All of the food was fresh, the server was friendly, and just an all around great atmosphere.

Gilbert's is a hidden gem of the cruise port in Cobh. The bistro is very clean and well kept. I enjoyed the fish and chips very much and Debbie really liked the Beef and Guinness stew. We also had the Potato and Cheese pies, which are a wonderful deep fried mashed potatoes with cheese. I also had a very tasty potato and leek soup. Cute place. Food was just ok. Service was friendly and adequate. I had the fish and chips. Big piece of fish but the breading overpowered the fish. Cilantro was in almost every dish we ordered including mushy peas, chicken rice dish and cheesy potato pie...so if you're not a fan of cilantro you should ask before you order. read more

I am a tourist here. Beware. We were staying at Robin Hill House and if we ate here it would be 25% off. We came here not for the discount but for the reviews. First they gave us the wrong menu, we were like it's fine we will give it try. Food was alright. We asked for the check and the waiter didn't even give us the check and told us how much to pay, we had to ask for the check. When he brought the check the discount on the check was not correct, later they said it was bc for these and that reasons. I didn't come here for the discount in the first place but they were not honest with their customers, which is very unusual how considerate and friendly Irish people are in Ireland! read more

Very good food and the friendliest service you could get. We had the chicken wings for an appetizer and they were great - meat fell right off the bone. Steak dinner was perfectly cooked, Guiness stew had great flavor, lamb shank did not disappoint. Reasonable prices for wine to boot. Dropped in for a late lunch ... the service was good and the food was quite good as well with the exception of their Irish Guinness stew .... watery broth and poor cuts of chewy not tender beef. No side of soda bread typical of the dish. Restaurant has a limited beer selection .... nothing on tap. read more

The fish & chips here are the best in Ireland. The portion is large enough for 2, especially if you pair it with the tasty seafood chowder that comes with hearty brown bread.
