Kids menu June 2025
Mel T.

Market Lane was by our hotel and the menu looked good, so we decided to check it out one night for dinner. It was a Tuesday, just after 7 and it was packed inside. Luckily, there was an outside table for the three of us, and they were able to accommodate a stroller. For drinks, I was looking forward to a Guinness, but they didn't have. So instead, I had the Angel stout, which was very smooth. It was a bit darker and a little more bitter than Guinness, but still good. For food, we had: -Chicken liver pâté, spiced plum chutney with sourdough toast - not sure if I really loved this one but the sourdough toast was good Glenbeigh mussels steamed in white wine, cream, celery and herbs with crusty baguette - I don't normally like anything with celery but I didn't taste it here, so it was fine. I liked the mussels. This kind was small, which I prefer to the giant ones found in the U.S. -Pan roast Ballycotton monkfish, garlic ratte potatoes, roast pepper purée, lemon salted green beans, smoked pancetta and almond crumb - the fish was cooked perfectly and tasted fresh, but the green beans could have used a bit more cooking time -Sirloin Steak (10oz) - my husband got this one since he wanted to try the beef in Ireland, and it didn't disappoint. Their steaks are served with mushrooms, house chips, shallots and choice of: peppercorn and brandy cream, whipped garlic butter or roasted pepper chimichurri. He picked the peppercorn and brandy, which was nice I really liked that they had a kids' menu and that there were no chicken tenders or pizza to be found on there. Instead, there were dishes like shepherd's pie, pasta Bolognese, and roasted chicken breast. They even had a baby bowl, which we ended up ordering for my 8-month old. It was a huge bowl of mashed potatoes, finely shredded chicken, with tiny bits of soft carrots. She loved it! It also came with a side of gravy, but we used that for ourselves. It tasted similar to the peppercorn and brandy cream that came with the steak. I really appreciated this menu item because I never really see baby food on restaurant menus, and this allowed her to be a part of our dining experience.

Eh, it was okay. I learned about Market Lane from TikTok which should've been my first clue to find somewhere else to dine, but it was a Monday night and so many of the other spots on my list were closed. I ordered the french onion soup and the steak frites with herbed butter. The french onion soup came out piping hot, too hot to eat. I immediately knew by looking at it that this wasn't going to be the best french onion soup. It looked like someone sprinkled Kraft shredded cheese on top and microwaved it. The flavor was lacking and it needed salt, pepper, and more onion. The steak came with the herbed butter on the side. It was OK but nothing to write home about. I was surprised by this since I know Ireland is supposedly known for their beef and their butter but I felt like I've had better steaks back in the states. The service was friendly and attentive and the ambiance was upscale but homey. I wouldn't rush back to this spot if I find myself in Cork again but it's an OK option for its central location and Monday night hours.

Roast Marinated Chicken

This was hands down the best food I had on my trip across the UK. The restaurant even though it was a little packed still felt pretty intimate and is great for larger groups or a couple. The servers were kind and extremely attentive throughout the evening. The food was out of this world. We got calamari on the trip and this was the most delicious by far it had an amazing sauce with nuts and was so tender. The cocktails were strong and just absolutely stunning. The chicken was amazing it was so tender and I would highly recommend it. The fries were not that good and you could probably skip them.

Everything here was delicious! Highly recommend if you're in Cork. I had the filet with the whipped garlic butter which was cooked with perfectly. I also tried the bohemian raspberry which was one of the best cocktails I've had. I love raspberry and loved that the flavor was super authentic and not overly sweet. I also tried the plum sour which was great as well and super pretty: Service was great and restaurant itself is cozy.

Sirloin steak. Butter and gravy. Red peppers slaw.

I really went in with Hugh hopes for this spot. I've been traveling Ireland now for days and all over I see some of the largest cows on the hillsides and countryside. I was craving meat and ordered the sirloin. What a major disappointment. Visually it looked perfect. But it was bad. The cook did not know how to cook the meat at all. I can't say Chef because no self respecting chef would give you meat with so little rest time and poorly prepared. It was good gamey. Chewed for ever and the fingers wouldn't pull apart easily. I usually velvet my meat and it makes a huge difference. This place did nothing close and the meat was horribly prepared. Once I cut it, all the juice came out and the meat was tough to chew. The compound butter was decent. The steak needed salt. That's never good. But the worst part was the red peppers. Omg. They were gross. They tasted like what bad body odors from 7/11 smell like. The service was good. I had a sweet young waitress. But the heater kept turning off and it was cold outside today June 8 2025. I don't think I would ever get steak from here. We tried their brownie dessert. Super gooey and well done. My hot lemon ginger tea was great that's why I gave it a 2 versus a 1. Their pork dish (neck). Was the best option. Wife loved it. Her cocktail was also great. Passion fruit drink. Yummy.

My friend's whiskey drink - so good!

We ended up at Market Lane purely by accident. We were looking for a sticky toffee pudding and after checking many places nearby saw that Market Lane had a bread and butter pudding so we thought we would try that. We were so glad we did! Market Lane was a true delight. We sat at the bar and the (I think) head bartender was super friendly and willing to entertain all of our questions. He suggested we pair our dessert with whiskey drinks. I got an old fashioned (maybe the best one I've ever had) and he made a special one of a kind whiskey drink on the spot for my friend who is a little hesitant about whiskey... and she loved it! The service was simply impeccable and we had such an unexpectedly lovely evening. I would recommend Market Lane to anyone visiting Cork! P.s. They also have beer next door from the smallest microbrewery in Ireland. Super cool!

Centrally located in Cork. We saw "Walk in Welcome" sign in front and went in. It seemed to be a popular and busy venue. The prices were okay for a downtown restaurant. The food was finely prepared and quite flavorful. We ordered: 4* Confit Lamb croquettes included cucumber and scattion salad, coriander, toasted sesame, soy and lime dressing. Crispy and delicious, salad was tasty. 4*Pan roast monkfish-golden beets in bernaise sauce, fondant potatoes and green beans: fish was tender, potatoes were great, the best I've had in Ireland. Green beans were Al dents, just right. 4.5*Seafood pasta, mussels, squid, haddock, tomatoes, garlic, orzo pasta, crunchy samphire: a great dish to order, fresh and delicious.

Had a great time at Market Lane and definitely recommend if you are in Cork. We came here on a Saturday evening with no reservation and was seated quickly. The staff were very friendly. The restaurant looks very modern and is a good size. We were seated on the second floor. We started with the Smoked haddock croquettes with house pickles and lime & dill aioli. For entrees, I had the Pan roast monkfish, creamy curried velouté, fragrant pilaf rice with saffron, cardamom, peas, carrot and toasted almonds and my husband had the Marinated Lamb rump, potato and smoked garlic gratin, honey roast parsnips, pea & mint pistou. All the food was so delicious and flavorful. The portions were also a good size. Unfortunately, we did not have room for dessert but looked great as well.

Asked for drinks that we never got and meal was constantly interrupted by flies/bugs. Food wasn't bad I guess but couldn't be enjoyed.
