I've been meaning to try out Gilded Tomato after seeing that they are at Eskimo King in Swansea on Monday and Tuesday nights. Last Tuesday I didn't have time to make dinner so I drove up the street to check it out. Less than 15 minutes later I was back home with piping hot pizza. You can't beat that. One star is just for the sheer convenience. Once your pizza goes in the oven, it's back out in 90 seconds. The crusts are already prepared and they have a short menu of pizzas to choose from. Once your pizza is out of the oven you are asked if you want fresh basil and flavored olive oil on top, it's cut, boxed and you are on your way. I ordered the margherita and the sopresseta. Both were tasty, but the margherita was the clear winner with my husband and I. I would stop by again for a quick dinner option. read more

We were very happy with Gilded Tomato's catering for our July 2021 wedding. The owner, Julia, is passionate about her craft, very detail-oriented and communicative. Having originally scheduled our wedding for July 2020 and then postponing for a year due to the pandemic, Julia was able to work with us despite all of the uncertainty surrounding event planning and restrictions. I just came home from a festival in Westport where a friend and I enjoyed a cheese pizza from the Gilded Tomato. The crust is super thin. The cheese was plentiful and delicious. We stumbled upon this company while at a wine fair in Westport, MA. They essentially are a traveling gourmet pizza company, complete with a huge outdoor oven. The pizza is delectable!!! We ordered the margarita pizza, which sounds plain jane, but is the total opposite. It is a slice of heaven. The ingredients are fresh and locally sourced. I would never go back here again. First, the prices are insane. You pay restaurant prices for food truck quality food. I had to wait 45 minutes for one small pizza which they claimed to have ready in 10 minutes. The quality of the food is not really that great. You can get a large quality pizza for half the price. While their pizza looked tasty, I will never know. Apparently they can only make about four pizzas at a time. They were at a food truck event at Roger Williams park, and I went by to order a pizza. I was told they couldn't take orders because they had to wait for their oven to heat back up...okaaay. So I went with my son on the carousel, came back, and stood in line. I did see a couple of pizzas come out of the oven, but while I was in line they had to shut down again! They set up at the Newport Polo Match- independence Cup. It took them a couple hours to be ready to take orders. People were repeatedly turned away cause they weren't ready. Once ready, you were told 10 minutes but, it was quite a bit longer. That would be fine if you were getting very good (artisan) pizza, as advertised. Virtually every pie coming out of their oven was burnt and they actually served it that way. I understand the process of lacing the edges of wood fired pizza but, this didn't really work. The wonderful people at the Gilded Tomato were extremely friendly and willing to go out of the way to provide amazing service for us at our college event. Despite our short notice and a limited budget, the delightful owner was generous enough to help us find a way to make our event work. Their communication was excellent, they were prompt, and effortless to work with. Not to mention, the Gilded Tomato made far and away some of the best pizza that I've ever had!! The thin crust, perfectly sharp cheese, and mouthwatering tomato sauce combined with a smokey wood grilled aroma makes a slice of Gilded Tomato to die for. Their beautiful wood burning oven and impressively elegant presentation made them the highlight of our event, and would no doubt impress anywhere. Not only was the pizza excellent, but they managed to keep up with our extremely high rate of demand as well. All in all, their service was amazing-- these hardworking people were so willing to accommodate us on short notice, our need to feed hundreds, as well as our budget. I cannot be thankful enough to them for what a fantastic job they did catering for my school, and I can't wait to work with them again, and more importantly pick up one (or maybe a couple) of their delicious pizzas next time they're in town!
