I'd like to start saying that my wife and me are hard workers, with similar hopes and dreams as anybody else, wanting to have a better house for our kids and for ourselves. With the economy as it is right now it is very painful when some shady contractor comes and takes $25,000 for a job, and that job not only doesn't get finished but also the 20%-25% that is done is not even done up to Livonia code and its full of violations. We signed a contract with Giles Remodeling & Restoration LLC. Specifically with Andrew Derek Giles back in April 16th with its respective deposit check of $15,000, for what it was supposed to be an easy couple of projects (We can show you the contract), we wanted to build an addition to our back yard (stand up shower and laundry room) and also update/remodel our upstairs bathroom. Both of the projects, according to the contract, were supposed to be completed in two months, starting May 13th, but this is where all the problems started, the assumption is that as of starters he would've had applied for the permit at the starting date, well, wrong!!!, he didn't applied for the permit until May 20th and that was only because we kept bugging him about it, so because of that we didn't get the permit until July 11th, we know that the acceptance of the permit doesn't have to do anything with this guy, we knew that Livonia processing was backed up. No problem, we waited, now you would've thought that once the permit was granted, he was going to start right after, well, wrong again, he didn't start actual construction until August 1st (they started digging a trench for the footings). We have to mentioned that these people are very fortunate because apparently, they only work for a couple days a week or at least that's what they did on our project. They didn't finish the footings until August 9th, judging by the time, felt like they dogged it by hand, after this was finally done, they were supposed to start with the framing, of course not after we had to give him (according to the contract) another $5,000 check, which we did that same day (Aug 9th), OF COURSE!!!, and following a trend, they didn't start again until September 9th at this point they had to start with the framing and the roofing, which the didn't finished until September 19th, of course and because it was stipulated on the contract we have to give him another $5,000 check. After the last check they didn't show up until October 7th to demo the wall that divides our house with the new addition, and you would think that they would have covered with some sort of insulation or something, well they didn't, they just left us with a piece of plastic with a big zipper in the middle, I have to mention that this part of our house is actually a bathroom, so we technically had to do our needs on the outdoors. Their final move happened October 16th where they showed up to do some siding and per our request to put something sturdier (a foam wall) to divide the house from the addition. As you can see from April to October is exactly 6 months for a little addition of 6ftx19ft, talking to other contractors they can build an entire house in this amount of time, but not only that, we saw that the craftsmanship of the work done was very poor and unprofessional, so we decided to contact the building inspectors of Livonia to find out that whatever was built, it was built poorly and with a lengthy list of violations. Evidently after this we decided that we didn't want to continue with this guy, now the problem is that he left us with an unfinished project (20%-25%), a poor construction, less $25,000 on our pockets and also with having to contact a different contractor who kindly enough is willing to help us but he will charge us to finish $40,000 from which $10,000 are only to fix the violations that Giles Remodeling and Restoration LLC and Andrew Derek Giles left us with. The addition that we're talking about was estimated by Giles at $18,825 for the shower and Bathroom & $5,895 for the Laundry room, as you can see, with the $25,000 that we gave him the addition was 100% paid & covered. read more

Our experience with Giles Remodeling started great and unfortunately did not end that way. We purchased a home built in 1963 and we hired them to totally gut and remodel the home from top to bottom. The project started in August of 2020 and still to this day January 2023 we still have other contractors here finishing and fixing and repaying for the terrible work that was done. I could spend hours explaining everything that went wrong but instead I will post some pictures because they speak for themselves and if you are still considering hiring this company please reach out to myself or my husband and we will be happy to talk to you about our experience. We have spent 3 years keeping our frustration off social media and when we asked him to remove our home from his facebook page because he didn't have our permission and he was posting inaccurate information since he didn't do most of the work we were blocked. DON"T EVER HIRE GILES! Giles was sent to us through LOWE's for our kitchen remodel over four months ago. The first guy Giles sent showed up when he felt like it (Hardly EVER). The work he did (All electrical, cabinet installation and more) ALL had to be redone after they fired him. The new guy Giles hired to replace him has only shown up for two hours in December (today is December 12) and has left our kitchen a HUGE MESS. Today, Lowe's finally fired Giles from our job. Had Giles do a complete rebuild for half my house. 1000sq ft that was suppose to take a few months. Took him over a year and to avoid late fee's he charged me an insane amount in "upgrades" he billed me for at the end of the job, while I asked for a quote beforehand and was ignored. Also when he was "done" NOTHING was built right. The roof has a U shape to it, under sink was moldy from drywall guy plugging up sink and not turning off ro system, many times I stopped at job site and HEAT was on 99 in summer and or AC on and windows open, or heat on and holes in wall still when construction wasn't done yet. Also today water started pouting thru drywall above my kitchen sink cause the deck they built wasn't caulked underneath the door and open holes under there. the shower floor has cracks in the tile in the middle of the floor and sides, I had to caulk and it looks insanely stupid with caulk now, has to be replaced. Bathtub has cracked grout all around the tub, its 2 months old and looks 2 decades old, must not have sealed the grout before I took over the house? my sliding doors block each other , so i can't have the bathroom open and have my closet door open at the same time. sliding tracking doesn't go far enough, also only hooked up at top of doors, so they slide back and fourth, hitting the wall and constantly creating drywall dust. one of my 2 stone sinks is installed backwards, the cuts on sink that are clearly suppose to be the back of sink are forward. The good custom vanity is all scratched from them sliding the sink in place. my tile floor is slate installed upside down, scrapes on the tile to help it stick to the floor better. wood flooring popping up in many spots, air bubbles, and incomplete wood connections in many spots. blinds weren't cut to window, so to pull up the blinds you have to use two hands and give it all you got. window not stabilized into wall proper, cracks all along window drywall, again, looks 20 years old. one or two of my stairs has completely failed, and rocks back and fourth under the carpet they installed, you have to jump over it. Andrew will say my house has no warranties because I with held the last two insurance pay outs, but one was for a new furnace, WHICH HE DIDN'T REPLACE! And the other is 5k I'm holding from him cause the over 102k of work he did is horrible work and a lot of it needs to be replaced. I can supply pictures and video if anyone is interested. Don't hire. I hired Giles through Roto Rooter, the guys would come, only to be pulled them to go to another job, my husband was in critical condition and in the hospital, and I would have to leave. Figured they were bonded,? Sometimes, one guy, sometimes two guys would show up. Never knew who was going to show up. Work had to be redone in areas. Missing valuable items. The work was in the basement.Took a long time! One day, I called Andrew to tell him my pistol was missing, (as it was in the basement) Next day, the guy who had been working shows up, says he's going to help me find it. As we were looking for it in the basement. I heard something upstairs, and ran up the stairs, and ran into him coming out of my bedroom. I asked what are you doing in my bedroom? He stated, helping you find your pistol. Next morning I found the pistol in my underwear drawer. (I hated to say he had done that, and I didn't want to get him fired, so I told Andrew he found it downstairs by the paint cans.) I'm sorry I said that, as I realized my wedding rings were missing after that. Being that they were very valuable I was not wearing them, and had them in my bedroom. I asked Andrew and his wife about this, and when they asked him. He said he did not recall any of this happening. He was not in my bedroom. I caught him head on!!!! Andrew is nice guy, BUT, I WOULD NEVER HIRE THIS COMPANY AGAIN, NOT RESPONSIBLE AND NOT HONEST. THEY WOULD NOT EVEN ATTEMPT TO HELP ME WITH MY WEDDING RINGS BEING GONE. WARNING.. this has to be the worst company ever. We hired this "company" to remodel our bathroom. It was supposed to take 4 weeks... Ended up taking 4 months. When the job was "done". All he tried to do was charge me for "extras". When I asked him for documentation,he never supplied it. Every aspect of his work was wrong and has to be redone. Leaks,cracked tiles and caulk. I hired this company through Roto Rooter which was my first mistake, my mother's had a busted water pipe in her kitchen which is very small, it took them two months just to replace the lower cabinets, the countertop & the floor, i had to always call Andy to see when his workers was coming, they promise you one day they was coming & they never would come and they wouldn't have the decency or professionalism to call you back and let you know they wasn't coming, I missed some days of work because of that you've to constantly stay on top of this company; it seems like he can't hire professional workers, my advice to anyone do not hiring them! read more

I would have to rate this as my worst experience ever. I would recommend staying away from Giles Construction as the owner was not honest, took my money, then took his time on my kitchen. Almost 5 months because they rarely showed up to work on my kitchen. Andy ALWAYS had some excuse why they were not working on my house. Every day I would contact him asking what time they were going to be at the house, and every day I got, "part of my crew called off so we will be there tomorrow" and guess what, I would get the same response the next day. Not only the headache of dealing with his dishonesty, but I lost over $2500 because my insurance company said that he (Andy) failed to meet several dates that HE gave for completion so they (insurance company) stopped paying me for food and I had to pay for 3 meals a day for my daughter and I out of my pocket. Andy currently owes me over 20 grand for work not done. He has every excuse in the book as to where my money is, when I'm getting it back, why it's taking so long, why the job didn't get done. My cabinets were never ordered, per contract our kitchen should have been done by October 18. Please don't ever hire this company. He is a liar, a cheat, a fraud. Not only did he take my money and do nothing he took my shoe molding and left me with unfinished walls. He is a joke, he never shows up on time and doesn't do the work. I signed a contract last Feb. with Andrew Giles to build a 9x9 addition on my house. I paid the $6000.09 deposit. He cut a 9x9 hole in my deck. I took him to small claims court and won a judgment against him. He worked out a payment schedule and never paid. He has lied consistently. I am pressing criminal charges now. I DO NOT recommend this business! Terrible experience with this company! Our bathroom remodel, according to our contract was supposed to take 2 weeks and start on 8/13/2018. Project started nearly 3 weeks later on August 30th with workers only showing up every other day or so and for 4 hours a day maximum. The project finally ended on November 21st, yes, that is NOT a typo...3 months later! DO NOT contract with this company--you should ask why no Facebook page now? His employees will tell you he and his wife delete it all the time due to the terrible reviews! Andy Giles is dishonest, he will lie to you the entire time and will produce shoddy work. Our bathroom floor is uneven and slopes down--his excuse, it is our house that is crooked. He installed our bathroom shower valves and floor drain shifted to the right of the shower, shower floor is uneven, ceiling is already cracking...I could go on and on with the poor workmanship! He does not have highly trained plumbers, tilers and electricians on staff as he states! And he doesn't even check in on the work and then when you tell him about the incorrectly installed shower valves and drain and floor tile, he blames it on you not telling him! The last item to be completed on our bathroom remodel was the shower door install by another company, Andy never even came back out to do a walk through of the final completion. What does that tell you about him as a contractor? Consider yourself warned, Andy Giles made our bathroom remodel that was supposed to be an exciting time for my husband and I a complete nightmare!
