Kintz was the driving force behind the establishment of the museum, purchasing the land where the famous rockpile sits and then donating this property to the county in 1970. The Rockpile has been a landmark in Gillette for many years. The first four settlers in Gillette centered their claims on this site. Legend has it that when travelers came from the west the Rockpile would let them know when they had arrived in Gillette. The Rockpile also was not far from the railhead of the Burlington & Missouri Railroad which arrived in Gillette in 1891. Ever since this time, the famous pile of rocks has been known by local citizens as the Rockpile.

I'm extremely disappointed. I brought my M1 in and needed some work done because it wasn't ejecting…read morerounds. They said they could do a full cleaning. I said Ok. I get a phone call telling me I have pitting on my barrel. So I get it back and take to an actual certified gunsmith who runs a world class shop out of Sheridan and he broke the gun down and gave me the bad news: the gun was never cleaned as fully as they claimed. I was pretty irked when I got this text "Who ever claimed to have cleaned your M1... never took the bolt apart. You have rust in the ejector spring. Not bad yet. But that will get cleaned up." Followed by a picture of a paper towel with sludge all over it. That's what $180 got me. Should never have gone to T&T and did try to civilly talk to them about this and the guy got very defensive and immediately began attacking the gunsmith working on my gun now.

I would definitly recommend going back to this place. Although if you do not like to be around smoking DO NOT go because you are allowed to smoke inside. Other than that we had a great time! It is a great place to bring your kids...of all ages! My son is two and he had a blast !
