Fantastic company! We had a couple of companies give us estimates to block wall our 2 1/2 acre property. Todd came over to give us an estimate the same day and his prices were right on par with our budget. Demolition started very quickly, all of his guys were super professional and friendly. My nine-year-old son tends to be pretty nosy and likes to know how things work and what's going on ,and they entertained him very well all while getting our project done in less than seven days. Once they started working they ensure that nothing in the property space was going to be damaged in building the wall. I would have loved to work with Gilliland Masonry if they would have returned my call and text so i can only base my review on their customer service. Their yelp review looked great so i texted them to see if they service our area in Canoga Park. They text me back saying "yes" and was going to call me on Saturday to schedule in a day to come down for an estimate. Saturday came around and I missed their call so i returned their call but no response, so i texted them to call me back whenever they are free - I got no response. The next day i texted them again, and still no response. So i tried again the following day, and again no response. If they can't respond to my call or text then it makes me think that if their were any issues during construction, then i would get the same response (or no response) so this is my reasoning for their 1 star. read more

Gilliland is a contractor that our Community would NOT hire again. He has extremely poor communication skills. He bid to repair our concrete wall and did not perform all the items which he indicated would be done in his bid. Specifically, he bid the job to place rebar in positions that did not have any in the initial construction and he failed to do this. The repairs he did are crumbling and were not done pursuant to his bid. The job was rushed and completed in 2 days rather than the 4 days originally estimated. He was in a hurry to go hunting and was more concerned with that than the job he was performing for our community. The quality of work was substandard and Gilliland would not come back and do repairs. The work he did is crumbling and will need to be removed and redone correctly. This contractor cannot be trusted. He was paid in full and definitely does not stand behind his work. We give him a definite thumbs down. Do not hire this man. read more

Todd and his crew worked with the utmost care to our property and made our dream come true. I saw his advertisement sign next to the church off of 60th West and Ave M. His prices are EXTREMELY COMPETITIVE to two "contractors" that gave my wife and I quotes. He ripped out a old tree and some shrubs as well as a 7ft wall of dirt and built a brick planter for the wife and I. He also connected the walkway from the side of our house and built our RV parking in the front. Great work for a great price! Would recommend him to anyone. He has built several hundred feet of retaining walls, planters with decorative rock facing, additional decking around my pool, and added rock facing features on columns on the front of my home. The pictures I have added are most recent to the work described, all was done within the last 2 months. I continue to call Todd back for several reasons; Todd is very reliable, professional, fast (never strings your job along!) his quality is excellent as is his work ethic, and his pricing is very reasonable! It was hard to get in touch with Todd. He never returned my call or text until I said something. One of my neighbors made an appointment for a quote and never showed up. Lack of communications between him and his crews. They didn't do what we told him to do and he was supposed to get back with me later for this issues but never did. Also, instead of admitting it he had all kinds of excuses and lies. Instead of telling us about the sprinkler they broke, they buried it. My neighbor had a lot of issues with them and was upset. The wall looks great though, but any masonries would have done the same. We told Todd clearly that we want the fence but it wasn't there. He promised to bring it back but never did. We also asked him to cover the hole in between the walls and that never happened either. read more

In April 2019 my neighbor to the southwest of me chose to use Gilliland Masonry to build a cinder block wall around their property. The fence corner that adjoins that neighbor with my house and two other houses was set to be temporarily taken down in order for the wall to be erected. Each of the four neighbors agreed it could be removed and then put back in the shape it had been found to safely secure each yard. One neighbor has a large Pit Bull that gets a little rowdy, one neighbor has a pool, and I have another rowdy and large Labrador and two small children. The foreman on site (Todd Gilliland himself) assured each of the homeowners that the fence removal was temporary and his staff would be sure to place it back as it had been found. When the wall was complete and the fence corner replaced each of the three neighbors that did not get a wall found that the re-erected fence was flimsily connected and lazily placed. It had been bandaged together with a busted out 2x4 that looked as if the workers had used their boots to break it in half. It was rotted, held on by 6 screws that were not even deep enough to penetrate the wood enough to make it sturdy. There was a hole between the yards that could be pushed further with very little force. Each of the neighbors got together and we chose to call Gilliland and ask for him to please do something about the way the fence had been replaced, since it was on his orders it was removed and we had been promised it would be put back in the same shape it was found. Gilliland assured us he would send someone. Days went by. No one came. A week passed, we called again, he refused to answer our calls. Weeks have gone by and nothing has been fixed. The fence was in good shape and sturdy before Gilliland and his people tore it down to build their customer's wall. It should not matter that we were not the paying customer, our property was destroyed in order for him to accomplish his job and it should have been repaired by him to ensure that his work did not put a child in danger, an animal in danger, or worse. In the end we had to repair the fence ourselves, the entire job amounted to $40 worth of wood and 2 hours of our time with only my husband, our neighbor, and myself completing the job. If Gilliland had sent his men, or completed the job the day they were there in the first place it would have been done in half the time. Gilliland and his team were irresponsible, rude, and incapable of handling a true business issue. I would never hire Gilliland or refer him to a friend after interacting with him on this occasion. read more

I don't normally leave reviews, but the quick response to a request for a quote, the professional recommendations, and the quality of the work definitely required a follow up. Things to look out for....This is my review on the service I received . I feel if you tell your clients "You MIGHT LOOSE some plants but bring in a CAT machine that removes everything in its path, your intentions were to make your job easier and not save anything. Although they aren't responsible for any damages to Irrigation systems, i still feel that they should tell you HEY we cap some broken sprinklers. I just happen to do a walk through to find that they damaged several of them. My grass was damaged with the CAT machine, I lost all my plants therefore I now have to landscape my entire back yard and part of the front. I have to fix parts Irrigation system in the front and back yard. To end on a good note, Todd was very professional, his staff was on time daily. They finished in the time framed given, and the wall looks good. I'm happy with the wall but not with the extra headache of having to landscape again. Todd is pleasant and easy to talk too. read more
