Text messages state "Foot & Ankle Specialist of the Mid-Atlantic", Building sign is "McLean Foot and Ankle Center", and website says "Family foot & Ankle Specialist." Which makes it super confusing to find but easy to cover up when patients have a bad experience and want to leave an honest review. A little digging and I see previous bad reviews on google and the claim is that "Family Foot and Ankle closed in 2021." Well why is the website still up and I can make an online appt with Dr. Mendelsohn and other podiatrist??? At the very least, change your website if this practice has indeed been closed since 2021. They have been gaslighting other patients when they get bad reviews. That's my first red flag. 2) The X-ray machine was old and wobbly. When I went to get an xray for my foot, I had to hold it in place so it would not keep moving. 3) Nobody answers the phone at this practice to be able to ask questions or make appointments. Called about a dozen times over 2 weeks and went to voicemail every time. Had to finally schedule an appt online to pick up my orthotics and didn't have correct option for why I needed to visit. 4) Received multiple text messages and emails nagging me to a pay for a bill for orthotics that had not yet been delivered. The link to pay also did not give an itemized invoice to state what I was paying for. I am not going to pay a bill via an email or text message for things without enough details to ensure it is not a scam nor will I pay for an item that has not been delivered. Poor business practice. 5) It's also ridiculous that I have to pay a $50 Co-pay to come and pick up ordered product when Dr. Mendelsohn barely did anything to ensure fit aside from cutting it to size (which i could have done at home). He did not check to see my stance or my walking gait. He did not check for any areas of pressure or discomfort and make necessary adjustments to ensure the orthotic provides optimal support and comfort and to see if the correction was suitable. I was rushed in and out. He literally spent less than 5mins w/ me and handed me paper with info on orthodics. 6) Had to repeatedly ask for an itemized invoice and receipt to be able to use for HSA account reimbursement and was only given a printed out ledger. Then the office manager argued with me that it should work fine for HSA reimbursement. I know it won't for my HSA reimbursement b/c I've tried multiple times with other ledgers from other practices and have always been denied. Honestly, I spent more time trying to get an invoice than I did getting seen by Dr. Mendelsohn. 7) My feet still hurt and I refuse to waste my time and money going to a practice that does not answer phones, has shady business practices, and the Dr. rushes you in and out. Bottom line: WASTE OF TIME AND MONEY, POOR BUSINESS PRACTICES, INSUFFICIENT MEDICAL CARE, I DO NOT TRUST A THING THEY SAY.

I had to get a bunionectomy surgery. There were several appointments leading up to the procedure. Each time, an analysis was performed and I was provided details on what the cause of my pains were and his recommendations on how to solve it. The receptionist was always kind and professional. Even the operating team in the hospital had perfect customer service. I am grateful beyond words that my pain was able to be resolved. He also provided post-op laser procedures twice a week to expedite the healing! 10 stars Out of 5 because everything was just the absolute best!

You can try to get reimbursed by your insurance after the fact but that didn't work for me (and I have pretty good insurance--Blue Cross PPO). I had to discontinue care because I just couldn't commit to the out of pocket costs when there are other doctors in the area who do accept a range of insurance plans (in fact this is the only doctor I've visited in the DMV that won't take my insurance). Dr. Ribeiro is the first person to treat my pain and then offer exercises and orthotics for strength and support. She has a great bedside manner, listens, and is very analytical in her assessment. The pain would start early in the morning, as soon as I hit the floor, then subside after about 2 hours. During the pain period, I would have to stretch the tendon then continue with my normal activities. I contacted the office and was able to get an early appt with no problem. Next, I downloaded and completed the new patient forms in advance to speed processing. Shortly after I arrived, Dr. Ribiero did a physical exam then captured 3 different X-rays and explained the images. Luckily, I had no bone spurs, calcification, etc. but thanks to the X-rays she did noticed a slight drop in one of my arches. She gave me a prescription for an anti inflammatory, a sheet with recommended Achilles stretches, and recommendations to her fave running stores to get sneakers and inserts to more adequately support my high arches. My strain and pain have improved substantially and it's only been 3 days. The good doctor believes this issue will completely go away as long as I'm careful and continue the course of treatment. I absolutely love Dr. Ribeiro's chair-side manner and her new contemporary office. If you have any foot or ankle issues, give her a try. She very thorough and cares about her patients!

I initially went to visit the doctor because of a bunion on my foot. I was not certain if it was related to a prior work injury and sought to have an assessment done by a podiatrist rather than my orthopedist. I completed the paperwork and explained that I had a work related injury which was still open but wanted to know what was going on with my bunion. Dr. Fox treated me for my work related injuries, which I knew about and was documented previously but said his office did not accept workers compensation. He claimed he would treat me without knowing my work related history and that my "bunion" was the least of my worries. I wound up walking out with a brace and a stretcher for my leg and paid my co-pay and told to come in for a follow-up a month later. I returned to the office for my follow-up and upon walking in the front desk informs me that I owe $215! I received no notice in the mail from either my insurance carrier or from them that I owed additional money. It was a complete shock that I found unprofessional at the timing. I inquired what it was for and she said it was for the equipment I received. Irritated, I contacted my insurance carrier and unfortunately I was indeed on the hook for that amount as it was considered "durable medical equipment". I'm glad I only received the stretcher and the brace as Dr. Fox originally wanted to put me in a boot! I can only imagine how much more I would have had to pay for that out of my pocket! It was then I had my "ah ha" moment when I now had to pay a significant amount of money for something that my own orthopedist could treat me for without any cost as it was for my work related injury that Dr. Fox was trying to treat me for as well. I paid my balance and said I would not be treated anymore by the doctor, asked if I had to pay for the visit in spite of not being seen and was told no, then walked out. I came to this doctor for a bunion and he treated me for my work related injuries. Upon reading other Yelp reviews it appears he no longer does surgery for bunions but whether he does other treatment is unclear. He should have informed me that he does not treat bunions at this time or something to the effect and not have wasted my time and money knowing full well I did not come to him for treatment of my work related injuries. I wish I would have understood my insurance plan better before accepting the medical equipment from Dr. Fox as I would have insisted he only treat me for my bunion and not my work related injuries. Regarding the balance I owed, thankfully I could afford to pay on the spot. Not everyone can. Maybe discuss large co-pays or deductibles with a patient before issuing them equipment that their insurance may or may not pay. Hence, even though Dr. Fox was nice and personable, explaining everything in detail, I can not recommend his services as in my opinion the treatment I received bordered on unethical.
