The lovely woman who runs the business uses the shop to run art classes in painting, drawing and sculpture. She runs short holiday classes for beginners as well as mentoring more advanced students. At the front of the shop she displays and sells her own work along with many of her students' pieces. The work is bright and vibrant, and much of it is on a beach or sea life theme. Every piece is worth a good look at, and the range of styles is fantastic, giving you lots to choose from and admire. This certainly isn't like browsing a gallery of work that is all the same. The feeling of the shop is scattered and organic. It sells small statues and metal sculptures. Standing by the door is the life sized statue of a cow, painted in bright floral patterns. There is definitely lots to see here. The owner spends a lot of time on her community art programs, so it's a wonderful place to pop into now and again to get a little print out of her upcoming classes, as well as to see the new pieces she and her students have made.

Other places I'd been to gave me an average idea, weren't really interested and didn't really listen to what I wanted the frames to look like. At this place, the owner Russell is absolutely passionate about the business of art and framing. On our first visit, he took the time to take me around the gallery, discuss art, its value and the importance of good framing. He is absolutely right and a valuable person to have spoken to for advice. He is an artist himself and his work is wonderful, colourful and expressive. The gallery in the store showcases his work and prints and his wonderful framing skills. He worked with me and gave me a brilliant price for my whole exhibition, which looked absolutely wonderful on opening night. I even rewarded him with a bottle of wine and a card for all his help.

So I'm grateful for a quick solution if I run out of paint part-way through a 'masterpiece'. This store has a large and varied range of art materials. Many of them are low prices. They don't stock all the top end or specialised supplies, but one can go to Premier or Eckersley's for those. Apart from art supplies, there are craft and gifts, so there is something for everyone. And no excuse not to get creative!

There is also off street parking and the staff is helpful and will help cart big boxes of canvases to your car (so I've discovered! And also help squeeze them into said car). I have been trying different framers over the past 4 years and they are by far the cheapest and best. Their attention to detail is so good and quality of framing is outstanding. All framing is done on site as the factory is out the back. The shop is full of ready made frames with matting, framed prints and also mirrors. I purchased an A3 ready to go frame for $10 a short while ago, there are various sizes and contrasting matting boards to choose from. For the home handy person or learner, you can buy the matting board and wood frames in lengths to make your own. Directly out on the South Rd frontage they usually bring out some framed prints and mirrors with signage saying for you to make an offer, so why not if you like it. If you're a bowerbird be on the look out as they often throw out stuff onto the side road on the footpath, I haven't done it but in driving past there appears to be some interesting and useful offcuts.

It is a really good one. When I went in there earlier today searching for supplies for my upcoming Visual Art uni year, I had a big chat with the girl about art, supplies and study. It was extremely comforting and supportive and great being in an atmosphere with others so passionate about art. They have a great supply of good quality paints, pastels, mediums, pencils, easels, sketchbooks and canvasses. Great for advice and a good little quaint old fashioned shop.
