Ok, I did get the butter on the side, BUT the big, fat teacake I received was burning hot (literally, I couldn't even hold it), the butter was at the perfect temperature and there was *lots* of it. We managed to drench two sets of teacakes in butter using only half of one portion. All my thumbs up. My other friend ordered cake. She declared it "just ok". I didn't try, but I will say that even though the slice was so huge it was borderline comic, it wasn't so enticing looks wise. I *might* be a bit of a cake snob, yes, but I can usually tell if a cake is good just by looking at the texture. And those looked like hard polenta. A pity, since it's a (very) well served portion. And the coffee is great - as in, not bitter. Bitterness also absent from service; apart from that ludicrous suggestion, I was treated with kindness by a smiling staff. But shall I remind you again? NO. TOILET. Really.

I washed it down with a Rioja, which I thought was 100% Tempranillo, but the bottle revealed that it was blended with Garnacha. This rather detracted from the taste, but you have work pass these things and force the wine down your throat. Would I return? Yes, and sample other fayre. Charming staff, and friendly. I did request a VAT receipt. It was only when I returned to the office and found that the VAT number was missing. I couldn't get hold of them until 15 minutes before opening time.

Perfection. Wait staff was great--attentive, friendly, and prompt. One of the highlights of our short stay in Shrewsbury.
