I repeatedly asked him for a sit-down face to face meeting. 5 months later, i'm still waiting. When i asked him to subpoena certain evidence which could have helped me, he said, he'd have to take his old computer off the shelf and dust it off, which he never did. Right from the beginning he knew i was solely on a fixed income; yet he waited to months before telling me my benefits would be cut to 10%, which means i will likely lose my vehicle and probably my home. Then, he accepted the 1st offer made by the ADA DiDonna. And, he thinks veterans are stupid; here's a quote from him, in an email between him and ADA DiDonna; "My client, upon suggestion of his VA service providers, has asked to have his matter transferred to a Veterans Court. I explained to "our" client that Otsego County does not have this specialty court. his reply was that Broom County would accept the matter. Obviously, the VA service providers do not understand criminal court and jurisdiction, if that is what they told "our" client." 1st I never mentioned Broom County. I said Binghamton Veteran's court covers Otsego county as well. Notice how he starts with "My client", which is correct since he has no partners, assistants, etc. But later in the email to ADA DiDonna he refers to me as "our client" twice!!??? Does that mean he is partners with ADA DiDonna? If so, this is a major miscarriage of justice, collusion between a defense attorney and the ADA to convict me is totally illegal! He is so thick, he still does not understand. Like i said, don't waste your time or money on "criminal" lawyer Mr. Laughlin, especially if you are a veteran.

They basically get free money from you if your case settles before your retainer is used up. I wish I could run my business that way. I asked him to file paperwork though the court and it took months for him to do that. July to mid October actually. He never contacted me about the result of my case. The only options presented were to continue paying TR to correct their mistakes in their work--despite them already having the necessary information and documentation--or to close the matter and receive only the unused portion of the retainer. Mr Hogan had the opportunity to resolve this privately and chose not to. ** Our experience with Partner Derrick T. Hogan was extremely disheartening. After I raised legitimate concerns regarding defective, factually inaccurate, and a legally weak demand letter produced by the firm, Mr. Hogan treated the issue as though we were simply dissatisfied with a draft. The firm already possessed the necessary information and documentation to prepare the demand letter , yet we were effectively expected to pay additional fees to correct mistakes that should have never occurred. During our phone call, Mr. Hogan repeatedly emphasized that he was a "Partner" while minimizing the substance of my concerns. He did not meaningfully address the factual errors, omissions, weak legal posture, or the firm's failure to properly handle a serious matter involving retaliation and safety issues.  This matter severely affects my 88-year-old mother and our household. We had already been dealing with a destabilizing situation for approximately a year and a half, and I expected someone serving on the Client Assurance Committee to listen carefully, investigate what had gone wrong, and help resolve the problem. Instead, the conversation felt focused on defending the firm's inaccurate work product and billing rather than understanding the deficiencies I had identified.  Mr Hogan did not provide a meaningful remedy, the options presented were essentially to continue paying for revisions or close the matter and receive only the unused portion of the retainer. This left us with an unusable draft after a substantial portion of our retainer had already been billed.  Mr. Hogan's approach was dismissive, condescending, and unhelpful. I would caution anyone seeking capable, considerate, and zealous advocacy to look elsewhere. I cannot recommend Mr Hogan or Tully Rinckey.
