Don't be surprised if there's a plethora of NUPD and/or BPD hanging out. If you can't find it, ask - it's probably somewhere you just can't see since this place is jam packed with everything you could ever want. John is the man. I lived on Columbus for 3 years, and could always rely on him and his store. First: Tigs. Also known as Tigger. The most baller cat you'll ever meet. Very chill, likes to sleep and watch people. Don't pick him up though. He doesn't like that. Second: John puts the convenience into convenience store. Large accoutrement of items you'd never thought you'd need until you need them. He's helped me out with stray cats, broken bikes, and late night food runs when I couldn't leave the area. He's open when it's sunny, and when Boston is being punished with 5 ft of snow. Overall, one of the best assets to the northeastern area. read more

stopping by this place on my way to work has quickly become a morning ritual for me. its a standard corner store, but Im happy because they always have plenty of poland springs sparkling water (in several flavors!!) in stock. I live off that stuff & I've found it can be difficult to find in regular convenience stores. but like others have said, the guy who runs the place john really makes it special. he will even order something for you if they dont have it in the store (behold: chocolate soymilk!!!) there are always people hanging around & chatting. (but he'll tell you to stay away from the crazy lady with the oxygen tank that sometimes lingers outside because she spends all her money on scratch tickets.) the other people I have seen working there are also nice & even the cat tigger is very friendly! great neighborhood corner store read more

Yeah, OK, the prices aren't all that great (milk goes for over $4), but John, the guy who owns this place, is the man. He runs his business in the friendly neighborhood family general store kind of way. His cat is usually chillin' out somewhere inside and he's always good for some friendly conversation. Best of all, if he doesn't have an item you need, he'll write down what it is and get it just for you. If your hoops session is marred by a flat ball, he'll whip out his pump and inflate it free of charge. Now that's service. If you live on the Columbus side of campus at Northeastern, this is the place to go to pick up some food for the week or for late-night candy cravings. read more

Friendly folks, a cute cat, and reasonable prices. Giovanni himself is a warm and nice man. I live just down the street, so I always come here when I need something. I've never had an issue with this corner store, ever. I'm notorious for wandering between the aisles for minutes on end as I try to decide between soup choices. I've never been told to hurry up, or given the evil eye. A great store run by great people! read more

I was hungry. Needed that afternoon snack but didn't want a meal. Middle of nowhere. What do I do!? Giovanni's came to mind. Average to high prices for goods. I picked up an odwalla bar and small bag of cheddar jack Cheez its $2.78. Pringles were $2.39! No more good ole dollar days. This store is by far the best corner store you will find. It is run by the nicest people I have met in this city. One day my wife and I stopped by looking for some jasmine tea. We didn't see any and on our way out the door, the owner asked us what we were looking for. We told him but he didn't seem to have any, so we left. We were a few steps down the street and he came running out to us with tea in hand and gave us a few packets. Ever since then we come back to Giovanni's for everything. I am always pleased every time I go here and I wish there were more places like this run by people so nice and customer focused. read more

Giovanni is literally the nicest man ever. He cares so much about everyone who comes into the store. My friends and I go there all the time and he is always supporting us with our studies. When my roommate was sick he made her tea for free. My friend and I told him we would be up late studying and he made us fresh hot mochas and told us to study an extra hour for him. The friendliest neighborhood corner store on Northeastern's campus! My roommates and I always go there for our Ben & Jerry's fix ($4.99 a pint, whereas Wollaston's and CVS charge $5.99). They have a little bit of everything and are wiling to order something if you need it. Bonus points for multiple flavors of San Pellegrino! Hands down the best convenience store in Boston. It has literally anything you could ever want/need, and is open late when you're out late. Forgot to buy notebooks the day before class? Pick up a couple on your way to campus! Got drunk, but don't want to pay NYP's exorbitant prices? Quell your drunchies with something from Gio's! John, the owner, is a saint. When I needed a piece of electrical tape, and he didn't have any in stock, he searched for his own roll to give me a piece. When I'm short a quarter, he cuts me a break because he knows I'll be back the next day (and the next) to get something else. He is fundamentally a great person, and so engaged in the community as a whole. Story time: Today, as I was unlocking my bike from the signpost outside his store, he came out to tell me two kids were trying to steal it, were deterred by the U-lock and went farther down the street and cut another bike's cable lock and tried to ride off with it. No surprise, John chased them down, recovered the bike, and called the cops. If there is one business that deserves your hard-earned cash, it's this one. Sure, you're paying an extra quarter for that gallon of milk, but you're also supporting a local business run by one of the greatest people I've met in Boston. I then tried to buy something as a thank you and didn't have cash and it's a $5 minimum. Friendly convenience store on Northeastern campus. Used to live in the building right next door, Douglass Park, and would come here all of the time to pick up items (soda before class, milk in the morning, snacks late night...). The owner is incredibly friendly and cares about the surrounding neighborhood (gives out free candy on Halloween, etc). It's nice to see his smiling face all the time when you go in to get something, and if he's not there the staff he has is very nice too. read more

I stopped into this local market last night after the Celtics game to pick up NyQuil and cough medicine so I could attempt to sleep throughout the night. After grabbing me the medicine, the owner asked me and my boyfriend if we were in a hurry. We said no, and he proceeded to make me hot tea with extra, extra honey, free of charge. He even gave me his grandma's secret recipe to be sure I felt better! The sweetest man! I will be sure to stop here more often, even if it is a bit out of the way! read more
