City Convenience has everything that you could possibly need last minute from "gourmet" snacks to Bud Light. They have a great selection of wine and beer & an array of groceries. Oh City Convenience. My love-hate relationship with you will probably stand the test of time. I love you because you are, above all, convenient. You are located in my apartment building. You have all of my up-to-date trashy celeb magazines. You have my favorite brand of hummus (Sabra), and even have greek yogurt, stocked and ready. If the BF is having a last-minute football get-together at our place, he can run downstairs and grab a few 6-packs from you in an instant. You have everything I could possibly need ..... and you're open till 11pm. Horray!!! I hate you because I spend ridiculous amounts of money for ridiculously small amounts of goods. Your sodas are too expensive. Your yogurts are too expensive. Your orange juice is too expensive. Your beer is too expensive. Yet through all this, I still return. Almost every day. City Convenience... conveniently located under my apartment building. They have everything you need for those munching needs... snacks, alcohol, lotto tickets, magazines, etc. Decent size... friendly staff, nice people in general. I got to know them rather well, as I visit the store 3-4 times a week. BUT the prices are ridiculously high... like seriously. I know it's a "convenience store", but seriously so is 7 eleven and their prices are way lower. But... Their eggs are the cheapest in town (unless you want to go to shop n stop in Dorchester), the guys at the counter are hilarious, and they sell wine/beer for when it is needed in tight situations. For those who live on the west side of Beacon Hill this place is truly a convenience, I will miss it dearly when I move this September. read more

On Beacon Hill? Thirsty? VOILA! This place sells beer! Easy walk up the hill from Park Street this place sells the 6 or 12 pack you need to spice your night up a bit. Nothing extraordinary, they just have the basic domestic beers and whatnot but that's all you really need. If you are looking for selection go elsewhere (I always run to Blanchards for the variety/price combo) but if you are downtown and need some delicious alcoholic beverages I'd stop here. Dunno what's going on here. Has City Convenience been bought out? Signage outside labels it as such, but cash register inside is labelled some other company. Regardless, as a resident of the neighborhood, I am deeply disappointed in how far this place has fallen in the past few months. The food selection is now nothing much above a 7/11, prices have risen, magazines are no longer sold, and the staff seems to loaf outside if the store is empty of customers. Additionally posted hours seem whimsical at best. And yesterday at about noon, the store was closed with a sign reading, "Back in 5 minutes." I gave up waiting after 20. Shoddy, shoddy, shoddy. The neighborhood deserves better. I shall be shopping elsewhere. One star only because I'm forced to. -5 in truth. read more

I don't think I've explained sufficiently the wonder that is City Convenience. Let me explain further. 1. There is a wine section in this small convenience store. I'm serial. It's an actual wine section. They have occasional wine tastings here. I have never actually partaken in the wine tastings at City Convenience, but I have seen them happen, and as an expert in seeing things happen, I can attest to this. 2. They also have beer and champagne. Is the beer always the same thing, and is it a little bit more expensive than other places? Yes. But if you want a 6 pack, 12 pack, or Heineken mini-keg quickly, all of these are available. 3. They also have the standards that one would expect at a convenience store: food that one usually wouldn't buy, the sandwich in a bag thing, various frozen foods, soda, energy drinks, and other stuff that one may need. All things considered it's a decent place, and the service is good. A little pricey, yes, but that's what one would expect from a convenience store in general. read more

If ever there was such a thing as an "upscale" convenience store, this City Convenience would probably be it. They're bigger, cleaner, and friendlier than any of your neighborhood Store 24's or 7-11's, but apparently that comes at a price. I get the feeling that living on Beacon Hill makes me want to spend more money on things I could get so much cheaper anywhere else, and this place takes full advantage of that. They're stealing from me through my Ben & Jerry's addiction, bankrupting me on overpriced fizzy beverages, and the larger-than-average alcohol selection is just highway robbery. If only they weren't so darn convenient, maybe I would walk down Park St. to something cheaper, but that's looking less likely every day... read more

City Convenience has everything I've ever wanted on my lunch break, and so much more. A bit pricey, but their boxed sandwiches are delish, plus they carry a large variety of chips, sweets and bottled beverages to choose from. This place has saved me both the trouble of packing my own lunch for work every day and the dangers that come with unleashing myself on the financial district during my lunch hour, surrounded by a million reasons to eat something big and greasy. We are fans of City Convenience. After eating sushi next door it's a great pit stop to load up on candy and snacks before heading to the movies. What makes a neighborhood unique, aside from bonding with the folks next door and knowing where the best parking spaces are? It's special spots like City Convenience, the folks who are there when you need them. When I run out of coffee or wine, my two major liquid assets, I run in here. When I have an emergency t.p. crisis, these guys have a shelf full. They even have fruit and sandwiches and good gossip magazines for insomniacs. It's clean, it's quick and oh, is it ever convenient. I have been spending less time at the Starbucks and the Dunk's and the Panera nearby because of City Convenience. Stopping here for coffee, a protein shake or a to-go sandwich shaves precious time in the mornings. The staff are pleasant and the place is clean and you can even say spacious considering the expensive locale. They have a healthy fruit section and even a wine and beer area. I think they've got everything covered for the busy-on-the-go crowd. read more

City Convenience is awesome. It's not all that convenient if you live further down the Hill, but it is super convenient if you've just had dinner at Zen or are randomly coming from the greater Government Center area. Remarkably for a convenience store, the produce is fresh, the options are broad, and they have more than one brand of everything. And, they carry Cocoa Pebbles and good magazines. I also love that the ancient grandmother of the owner or manager sometimes works the cash register and that they have a cool selection of candy. Happy. read more

We use the City Convenience (formerly Campus Convenience) at the George Sherman Union at Boston University. Very nice staff and managers, some things overpriced, but our biggest gripe is this: shelf tags don't get removed or changed. A $4.99 sandwich is really $6.00; a $2.99 bag of chips is really $3.49, etc. Every time this happens (a lot) the clerk at the register has to come and look to see what the shelf tag says, then he/she will say, oh they put it in the wrong place and proceed to ring the item up at the correct price. Know what? Massachusetts law says that store items have to be correctly priced, and that if incorrectly priced, due to a shelf tag not having been removed or replaced, the customer is to get that item at the LOWER price. My wife and I both like this store, but this bit is really getting tired. Oh - try to contact City Convenience's main office - you can't! A phone number and online form used to be available for this. They removed it! You can only make requests to store managers who may or may not respond. Are you reading this City Convenience? You need to price things accurately, by law, or sell items at the price stated, even if it's lower than the actual price! read more
