Truly superb. I had never done classes before, but I'm hooked, plus I go all the time just to use…read morethe open gym (which comes with the reasonably priced classes). This is NOT a place with a bunch of gimmicky add-ons like fancy new cardio machines promising weight loss in no time, tanning booths, or hot stone massages. This is a place where regular, motivated folk go to get solid exercise. The trainers are fantastic, and they really hold the place together. Even if you're exercising alone, they'll never hesitate to answer questions or give you form recommendations if you want, but they're also never intrusive. I think it stands as a testimony to the trainers' skill that the gender ratio is pretty even in the classes, i.e. they manage to create an positive, serious, but not intimidating atmosphere. Other people in the classes are unanimously friendly (I get my movie and football news during the warm up, usually). Overall, I feel like I spend less time and mental effort exercising but I'm in better shape.

I think I've earned the right to give the first review for Cypress Fitness, as I have left quite a…read morebit of sweat there over the past four and a half months since they've opened. I had been doing kickboxing training with Brian for over a year at another gym when he told me that he and a business partner, Brandon, were opening their own gym on Tchoup. So I followed him there and have been taking TRX, Kettlebell, and various other cardio and circuit training classes pretty regularly. TRX is something that everyone in NOLA who likes to eat, but does not like being fat, should get into. It is effective for everyone from frail grannies to muscled-up ex-navy seals (who developed the system). Drew Brees endorses it (and uses it), so that alone should convince you to try it. Kettlebell training with Brandon will make you strong. Not stare-at-your-arms-in-the-mirror-while-you-do-curls strong, but real functional strength. No machines, just your body moving itself and an object in dynamic, natural movements with your core and stabilizing muscles working the whole time. I was trying to think of an adequate metaphor/simile to describe the results I've experienced from my training at Cypress, and the best I could come up with was "These abs! I look like a white D'Angelo circa 'Untitled (How does it feel).'" Is that too obscure an early '00s R&B video reference? Maybe. Suffice it to say that the trainers at Cypress Fitness will motivate you to get in great shape, in a completely judgment-free, supportive, accessible and fun environment. This is not a chain-franchise-Anytime-Riviera gym -- it is a gym run by people who care about your health, designed for people who want to achieve their better selves.

Want a gym where they don't clean up (the workers) , spray bottles empty, the napkin disposers…read morebroken, have old equipment , broken , and missing pieces ? Or that turns the AC off when they leave? Workers who don't care who comes in and out without a key? Then you have picked the perfect gym to join. They don't have workers there overnight but get mad that people let their friends in. I mean your workers already let people go in without a key and with their friends and have the nerve to get mad about that? Maybe if your workers would have did their job in the first place and spoke up it would have never gotten to where it is now. HIRE NEW PEOPLE AND OVERNIGHT! But also hire someone so people can feel SAFE! When women are at the gym and there's a bunch of men they don't feel comfortable and are sometimes afraid to walk to their car especially when there is nobody at the gym. It is not the peoples fault for YOUR workers poor job performance. The owner comes and does NOT even clean the place up. STOP having so much pride also to the owners . Let someone else also come in and try to help get the place running better like the guy who wanted to buy half of the gym and get new equipment for the place. There should also not be kids running around the gym while people are working out or teenagers just hanging around sitting. The kids can hurt and also the teenagers get in the way of people who do want to work out. Before you try to sit here and make it all the people is fault it all BEGINS WITH THE INSIDE OF THE WORK PLACE !!!

I told them I was broke and couldn't afford any contractual obligations because of my student status. Short, buff guy with a shaved head who both works and works-out here says that's fine; I put up like $103 split 50/50, first month up-front and my second month was insurance OR collateral to pay for that last month if I couldn't afford another month and then he proceeded to say that it was also fine, my account would fall into inactivity and I could just come back and pay when I want because I wasn't under contract AND WOULD NOT INCUR CHARGES! I am now $250 in debt to this gym, somehow, without signing a contract. I am going to cancel my membership today and I refuse to pay the bill due to unethical malpractice. The absolute BEST part is how you can't cancel your service remotely regardless of the information you can provide i.e: social security, birth certificate, etc. I live on the Westbank and must go to Chalmette to cancel, in the flesh; obviously another racket by Prestige to discourage you to appear so they can charge you behind the scenes! They refused to even let me freeze my account unless I appeared physically in-the-skin. I refuse to pay Prestige despite whatever collection agency they send. Try me.

I'll spend my money elsewhere. The sauna is only open while the staff is there. Update: I was contacted by a manager the following Monday, not to see if this could somehow be made right, but to challenge "why did you post that and give us a one-star rating because it hurts our business and why didn't you voice this concern to us" (as if I have an obligation and/or they didn't know that the sign was up for months). When I reiterated the inappropriateness, I was given an elaborated explanation of "why" in which my opinion remained the same. Then I was told that they're a private gym and they can put up whatever they'd like. So basically they didn't like my post (on here) the same way I didn't like their post on the bathroom stall...but they obviously had a problem with it. Again, very unprofessional!

Whether it's strength training, cardio or functional, this is the place to go! The owners are great folks with tons of knowledge and eager to help. Personal trainers are available. A dry sauna is available! All of the equipment is top tier, brand new and kept functional at all times. The rates are very reasonable and plenty of parking is available. Open 24/7 I'm here every morning, 7 days per week for 2 hours per day, training for my next Spartan Race.
