Confused (I was mailing the package for my husband and didn't label it myself), and busy for the rest of the day, I had to hire a baby sitter the next day and went to the Odd Fellows location where they very nicely asked how they could help me. They examined the package, said it was clearly not marked media mail, then said there was nothing wrong with it at all and was ready to ship. So, my package was a day late, and I wasted 2 hours of my time on a busy work day. Just a heads up, I have also heard terrible things about the Rivermont location if you want to ship more than one package every year. Just laziness and incompetence. They want to pull all the way into our yard up to the front door, even though we have a driveway and a walk way. They want to leave packages in the middle of the yard or driveway, even though we have an easily accessible covered front porch. They claim they can't access our driveway and then don't deliver packages or leave a slip to pick it up at the office. One time, they didn't want to put the package on our porch, so they tried to balance it on the top of our mailbox using the flag to steady it. It's easy for someone to say that I'm making this stuff up, but we have every instance on camera. Needless to say, I have contacted the post master regarding this and the issues still persist. I'm not sure where to go from here. I'm not paying for a mailbox at the post office, but I also don't feel like I have to put up with this.

The Battle sites is what I first went to view and yeah it hits you hard at all of the losses we had. Then I went to the Appomattox Court House and toured the grounds. Amazing place to take your kids there and to hear all of the History that we don't want to lose. To me, it was an Honor to walk where Victory for our Soldiers and our Country. I would for sure drive another 15 hours from Louisiana to go and Tour the grounds again.

Parking is plentiful and easy to access. When you get to the settlement where the houses are, you encounter beautifully preserved homes that are set up as they would have been during the war. Unlike other battlefields that feel oppressive with death, Appomattox feels like hope for me. Maybe it's my imagination -especially because people died here too, but the way the two generals conducted themselves went a long way in restoring peace. It's a beautiful place to spend an afternoon.
