She gave me some ideas, and didn't look suspicious when I said that I'd be back later- my usual excuse when I don't quite know what I want, or have come into the wrong shop. I did have a good look around the stock: there is something exquisite in seeing so many artificial flowers in one place, and this is a classic example of a specialist store: big stock, items for all sorts of occasions and a knowledgeable staff. I am not quite sure when I'd want artificial flowers to this extent, but the shop itself is an interesting and pleasurable experience.

Statues, planters and topiary all combine to create a lovely, well designed window display. Inside, fruit and flowers emerge from every corner. Hanging baskets adorn the ceiling. As far as garden centre's go Rouken Glen is one of the best. I'm not a big plant lover because they require care and attention and I am too busy caring for and attending to myself but, they don't just have plants at Rouken Glen! There is also a large gift shop which sells all manner of randomness from vases and candles to jewelry and mugs. The pleasant little coffee shop sells some yummy cakes and light lunch items. When I go to visit my wee 89 year old Granpa I take him to this coffee shop and he flirts with all the old ladies, sweet and disgusting in equal measures! My favorite thing about Rouken Glen is the Christmas section; it is a magical winter wonderland! I particularly like the outdoor Christmas light section, a little wonder around here is a great way to get you in the festive mood!

So, the folks at Erskine continue to provide care and comfort to these men and women. So, what does this have to do with you? Well, they need money to keep doing what they do. All they need you to do is go to a Garden Centre and buy a plant. That is it. Buy a plant. Nothing that you do will provide as much to someone else as just travelling here and picking up a potted plant. If you hate plants - give it to someone who loves you. And show some love to the guys who did their bit. It is not a lot to ask.

Only 4 main items on the lunch board with one rubbed out - I went for sausage with onion gravy and mash - big mistake. Square sausage (assuming lefts overs from the breakfast menu), no onions visible in the gravy by sight or taste - mash mysteriously turned into frozen chips. Unfortunately my wife was fairing just as poorly with a bedraggled ham salad baguette. Both dishes , the lack of service and the total lack of attention to detail all added to an extremely poor experience but we are at least wiser now.

It would appear to be a big favourite with those of local knowledge, and is ideally situated for passing trade. The M8 motorway is two minutes away, so for those on a journey and in need of a break - a much better option than the motorway stops. Highly Recommended.

If you have read any of my previous reviews, you might realise that there is one constant in my life that I do like. No, make that Love. And that constant is cake. I'm not a fussy cake eater; I like chocolate, sponge, cream, cheese, apple, caramel, empire, anything along those lines, really. So when I clapped eyes on the cafe in the centre I was more than pleasantly surprised by the cake selection. They have a really large cafe, almost as big as the garden centre section, which does a range of hot meals, light lunches, soups and drinks, as well as the aforementioned cakes. We took a seat, had a flick through the menu, and went up to the counter to order. I decided on some lentil soup and a roll, which was really good. It was home made too, something which the cafe prides itself on. My mum had a cheese and pineapple toastie, which looked dynamite, it was oozing cheese and had a big salad and crisps along side it. Her silence seemed to signify that she enjoyed it. Then it was cake time. My mum is a top class cake maker, and my dad is a baker by profession, so I come from a good stock of bun mixers. I haven't found my passion for baking yet, but I'm sure when I do, I'll be a natural. My mum actually got her banoffee pie recipe from the woman who runs this cafe, after tasting a slice one lunchtime. My mum's banoffee pie is renowned amongst friends and family as the best desert, ever! We went up to the cake counter and perused the fine display of goodies. They have loads, from wee mini trifles to millionaire's shortbread, and carrot cake. They have different cakes on every day, which keeps you guessing what the next delight will be! I went for the mandarin cheesecake, and came away with a huge lump for just over £1.50! It was absolutely, dribbling-into-a-napkin worthy of some coveted cheesecake prize. The base was crumbly and buttery, the cheesecake itself was thick and creamy, laced with orangey bits, and the jelly like topping was packed full of little mandarin segments, bursting with juice. It really was amazing. This place is not just restricted to lunch. They also have plants, and all the gardeny stuff a garden centre usually has. Located within the unit is a beauticians, which is a nice touch, and a kids soft play area, brilliant to chuck the kiddies in if you fancy a cuppa in peace. There is also a little gift section, selling candles and crockery, cards and china. It's all pretty expensive, but nice and unique for a birthday gift. My mum tells me that the plants she's bought from here have never failed her, and she wouldn't buy them from anywhere else. And my mum knows her plants. Recommended! Govan doesn't seem to have many fruit shops, just some bits of fruit in grocers but not a great selection. Then I saw Nolan's when passing by to the deli I sometimes go to for lunch. Why I hadn't thought about them before was because they sold flowers so I had probably hadn't noticed the fruit. I now have a local green grocers who sell delicious fruit. They don't have a huge selection as half the shop is dedicated to flowers but it's much better than the grocers.

This Garden Centre have a vast ample of car parking facilitates which it tends to be quite full and busy during the sunny periods. Also it is placed on the stunning views over the picturesque Lunderston Bay and the Firth of Clyde, along with the Argyll and Bute hills in the distance, and also you would be able to find the mountain peaks of the Isle of Arran providing a spectacular backcloth to the area. They have the attractions of Patio Restaurant which are served all day either hot or cold, and you can choose where to sit, indoors or outdoors. (For smokers, you have to be at outdoors, which there are ashtrays provided!) They have a wide range of shrubs, trees, and fruiting trees, plants, and almost everything else which are sold in the centre. They also have a huge Water Gardening services, which they sell waterplants, and water related stuffs. Also sells fishes, and small anials, which they do sell Goldfishes, and other kind of fishes, such as Koi Carp, Black moors (my favorites!) and other fishes. Also they do sell hamster, mice, gerbils, and Budgies, and other birds. There is a huge selection of Shops within more shops for a wide variety of goods and gifts. such as clothingwear, gardening wear, giftwares, ceramics, toys, and many more Even they do stock huge selection of speciality Scottish food produce, like Jams, Cheese, Ice-creams, Fruits, sweets, and the list are endless! Also they so have a huge showrooms, of Conservatories in the back, and they all are quite big and nice. For the Directions to get to there: it is right on the A770 coast road between Gourock and Inverkip. Opposite from the Lunderston Bay Beach. When the weather is really great, I would recommend you to cross the road to the Lunderston Bay to have a nice stroll along the beach. They also do have a bus service as well. As the pensioners dont drive and loves to go there, so there is bus service provided there, Which they dont have a bus stop at all. If you take a bus from Gourock to Inverkip, make sure you mention to the driver, that you want the driver to drop you off at the Garden Centre, they would be ore than happy to do that! Even if you want to catch a bus to go back to Gourock, just flag the bus down when you see one, and they will be more than happy to stop and uplift you on the bus!
