Anyway, a much smaller club than most of the clubs I'm reviewing, but they deserve a special mention for being close to the hearts of the locals. First-Hand Experience: My friends (S & T) live in Herts and took me on a little "stadium tour" of the area when I was there in 2014. The only match I saw with them was at Dunstable Town, which is a tiny little non league team, and we had a great time. It was the perfect afternoon, and I really appreciated how into it the tiny crowd was. Nice facilities too for a mini stadium. I'll give them a 4 because I need to be able to raise it to something if they ever make it to the big time. Always dwarfed by the plastic pitch of Luton (plastic makes perfect) but still relevant and now with a Yelp presence thanks to a Qype user and I. Founded in 1883, very cheap, and a little tiny stadium with fences at one end instead of stands. How fun. They play at Creasey Park.

Bedfordshire's top non-league side being Dunstable Town FC. Their Creasey Park Stadium is in line for a £3m redevelopment, although this has not prevented the supporters and volunteers of Dunstable Town vastly improving the stadium over the summer to coincide with the club's 125th anniversary celebrations. George Best and Jeff Astle plied their trade for Dunstable in their latter days but now the emphasis is firmly on youth and 'total football' with captivating displays from the club's young side in the British Gas Business League Midland Division (Two divisions below the Blue Square Conference). There is plenty of on-site free parking and other facilities include an excellent refreshments stand and a small club shop. There are three covered stands along with covered seating for 250 and the ground is wheelchair accessible. For a stadium that only holds 3,500, there is a remarkable atmosphere generated from the passionate locals. The bar is starting to show its age, although this is set to be refurbished in the coming weeks, and the voluntary staff of both the social club and football club are friendly and enthusiastic. There is a standard range of drinks within the bars plus many sugar-free options for children. The message is clear at all levels; forget the Manchester Uniteds and Chelseas of this world, watching football should be done from a terrace not a living room. Dunstable Town certainly put a good offer on the table to temp locals to take pride in their local club and community. Video link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=t5as01fRXWg

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - it was 2004 when I came to Layer Road to see an away game for one of my fave teams. Colchester won the game narrowly and I remember thinking it was a nice stadium and had pretty cool fans. It was about half full the day I came here. Unfortunately, it only lasted for 8 more years. I'd like to do a shout out to Jo, the person that brought me to this stadium back then. I've been to most UK & US stadiums, due to lifelong obsessions with travel, sport & especially footy (soccer to Americans). Born & raised in England, I followed Oxford United (hometown team) to stadia all over the country at away games, and later Liverpool (fave team) around. Every stadium review - like all my reviews - are from first-hand personal experience, usually from several visits. In 2011, I was on music tour in the UK, and visited most stadiums for fun in my spare time. As recently as Fall 2014, when I was "stuck" in UK for 3 months, I went to hundreds yet again while travelling. I have pictures of me at most, which I'll post later. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** In actuality it was a cute little stadium where Colchester used to play, before they moved to their new place and said goodbye. The capacity was 6,200 and it was cosy, loud and intimate. A lot of the fans miss it, as do I. It was built in 1910, closed in 2008, and demolished in 2012. All that is left are the memories.

First-Hand Experience: More info about my personal experience at this stadium - I haven't seen Cambridge play here yet, but one day I will. However I did wander over here when I was visiting with one of my best friends, Stef. I got to go inside and I have to say I was not impressed at all. However on my second visit (2014) it was gearing up for a home game, and the atmosphere was better. Still a tiny, unenclosed place with lots of wind and not many fans. So I give it a 3. Also, when back in UK I'll take more pix, and add more stadia! *** return to regular review *** Nearly a hundred years old, Abbey Stadium is really just a field with very small stands. It has a little folklore and history, but a team like Cambridge that flirted with the big time, deserves something bettererer and more modern. Please move the stadium review here that is with the football club, since it's all about this stadium and the two should be separate as they are on all of the American sports listings on the site. The only reason the stadium gets a 3 instead of a 2 is because of the open air concert Abbey Aid in 06 which was pretty cool, and managed to save the stadium which hosts the team CUFC (see you!) that is now back in the football league.
