I have been to the Pyramids for gigs / events however. Its a big space, the sound is clear and the lighting rig well set out. The room used for the gigs is suitable for bands of all sizes. I was present at a New Years event a couple of years ago in the glass roofed room, and although the sound quality in there was slightly lacking, the space in the room made up for it!

Located side by side, The Pyramids Centre is generally referred to as a venue, as it receives plenty of attention from internationally famous bands including The Darkness, Fear Factory and Hundred Reasons. The venue is fair sized, and (surprisingly) carpeted, so it is more comfortable to sit down while you're waiting between support acts. The bar has an inconvenient wall opposite it preventing a view of the stage from the middle of the bar, but this encourages few barflies, and drinks are more easily accessible.

Admission is a mere £3.50 for adults and £1.30 for kids. Family tickets, admitting five people cost £10.00. The Model Village is an absolute must if you're local to Godshill, and I highly recommend bringing the family along.

A mini Glyndebourne in the south, Grange Park brings professional opera to a derelect Grade 1…read morelisted building in the middle of Hampshire. Working in a similar manner to Glyndebourne, Grange park enables you to picnic outdoors before the opera and also in the long interval between acts. They offer a full dining service for those audience members who don't do picnics with full silver service. The venue is superb, after bumping down an unmade private drive for approximately a mile, you park in a large rough field over looking the imposing Grange (the venue for the theatre). The theatre itself is built within the building, so that nothing changes the original features of the house, i.e. the seating is built away from the walls on a structure built just for the theatre purposes. They have cleverly made the floor covered with glass over toy trains and cars which are to represent the monies sponsored to them by large firms in order to display company names in a subtle manner. Performances vary in quality, some are on a par with London opera companies, but sometimes the lack of a full theatre means that the productions are a little over ambitious and fail. They also stage movie nights. Price wise the Grange is very pricey, you are paying for a night which is very much a night to be seen at, rather part of the summer social season and a great alternative to Glyndebourne.

The recent addition of the planetarium has been a big hit causing the numbers of daily visitors to swell so get there early as queues can be long. This centre has interactive learning technology and science exhibits, like how much water we waste with baths and showers etc, sounds boring with me saying it but it really is lots of fun with lots of weird and wonderful gadgets to play with it's really hands on, kids and adults alike will love it. There's a great gift shop with very cheap momentoes and the food was reasonable to. The best part for us was the show in the planetarium, just amazing and such a great display, fully disabled friendly and the staff were very helpful. All in all a 5 star day out.

The Tudor House and Garden is a museum in the old part of Southampton…read more Built around 1492, the building was a grand house for most of its life until it became a museum in 1912. It has elements from every century since the 15th, as it has been much remodelled over the years. There's a good audio guided tour, which brings it to life. The exhibits are rather eclectic but the house itself includes lovely touches such as Tudor graffiti and floorboards made from 18th Century ship timbers. At the rear is a charming garden, which has been restored to its original Tudor form. Behind that, built into the town's mediaeval walls, is the so-called King John's Palace. Actually a town house belonging to a wealthy merchant built around 1180, it is a very rare example of Norman domestic architecture. The museum has a small shop and a nice modern cafe in the garden - this can be visited without paying for the museum tour. Staff were notably very friendly throughout our visit.

You will be welcome by the gosh of the Time Traveller and guided through time and way of life. Living in London, I have been used to not-so-funny museums but here, completely the opposite. Great history lesson without even knowing it, beautiful garden and playing areas for kids and grown ups. Oh and trust me, on your way out, that pot of jam and the tiny bottle of spirit, yes those ones, you want them. Trust me ;)
