After touring and being…read moreassured that our son -- a twice-exceptional, academically gifted child on the Autism spectrum -- could be supported, we submitted his records. Almost immediately, the admissions office reversed course and told us they would not move forward with his application because of his disability, saying he would be "better served" in public school. His academic strengths and test scores were ignored. This is not just disappointing, it is discriminatory. The school has accepted hundreds of thousands of dollars in taxpayer-funded grants and forgivable loans, which means it is legally bound under the ADA, Section 504, IDEA, and the New Jersey Law Against Discrimination to provide equal access. Instead, it shut the door on our son because of his diagnosis. We pursued every available appeal, including with the State of New Jersey. Even though the state acknowledged the facts, they declined to pursue the case further -- not because discrimination wasn't present, but because they lacked confidence in prevailing in court. Families should know that if your child has a disability, this school may exclude them rather than work with you. For a school that markets itself as progressive and community-oriented, our experience was the opposite. Parents of neurodiverse children: proceed with extreme caution.

The safe environment and the way they care about the kids was evident from the beginning. One of my boys went through the whole program before we moved to another town and it was so clear he was more than prepared to integrate to other schools and on top of that was the only reading kid when we enrolled him in kinder. I liked that he was part of a loving community where social interaction was a priority and that learning was fun. He is 8 and still mentions the school fondly. My husband and I do so as well.

When we arrive, all grades received their supply list except first grades. Guess what??!! I need first grade list. Teachers are supposed to call us to set up an educational conference before school start. Are you kidding me?!! Some of us work and set appointments and meeting that we can't avoid. You want to set this up two weeks prior to school starting. I have twins, I am still waiting for the other teacher to call me to set it up. When I call to get the other teacher's name; I am bounced all other the place. I am so pissed!! Here some suggestions: mail for the forms to returning parents instead of forcing to come to an orientation that they attend last year. The forms can have easily been placed in the students book bag at the end of the school year. Educational conference can be held over the phone. I shouldn't have to be forced to be late for work for a 15 minute meeting. I can visit the classroom during parent teacher conference.
