We did that and he qualified for some help. The day we found out he qualified for early intervention we told The Clifton Little School. The very next day we got a letter in his cubby to set up a meeting. The director "J", told me that he was a hazard and that they wanted him out of the school... he wasn't a hazard, he is active and not a robot. She made it sound like my son was a problem child and said he needed a "special school" that can handle him. Meanwhile the daily reports I got from his teacher where all good and positive. We found another school, a nice normal day care that just wants the best for the children in their school, it's the Allwood Play and Learn if anyone what's to know and they get 5 stars from me. The owner is absolutely involved, not just a check writer and she cares about our kids. The Clifton Little School was such a big let down for us, they know how to promote themselves with having Channel 12 News there for their Halloween Parade but what they don't tell anyone is their dirty secret that if your child needs a little extra help they will kick your child out of their school. My child isn't the only one this has happen to. Talking to the director of the school she makes it sound like they have a perfect school, they don't!! Don't take my word for it. He started there in the summer program at 3 1/2 just to get him socialized with other kids. He was nervous at first but very quickly made friends he talked about every day. They incorporated him into their sessions flawlessly. When September started, he became an excellent kid! He had new friends he now talks about every single day. The boys stop playing just to see my son walk in, some wait by the window to watch him leave, the girls love waving goodbye and telling their moms who it is. His handwriting went from horrendous chicken scratch to legible. He knows his days, his weather, seasons, emotions, he knows the letters in his name and how to recognize it when written. He knows the structure in his classroom and applies that to home. His personality has only gotten better since attending this school! Another big plus, there is a dome of Lysol doom around this building. You can smell it oozing out of the windows. The level of cleanliness has been unmatched in any of the other schools I've seen in the area! Not every school is for every child and it isn't always the teachers but sometimes how well the child blends in with the other children. My only gripe is it is a little pricey. $46.00 a day plus anything else adds up real fast. I just thank god I have family to help. One last gripe with what the person below me wrote... The kids are trained to fall in line. Where in life are we not falling in some sort of line? Work, there is a 'line' to follow. School there is a 'line'. Unless your a parent who praises your child for being carefree, unable to follow rules (which is tolerated SO highly by everyone else on this planet), you have to learn how to fall in some form of a line and structure.

The director told me "give us a month and everything will change" It really did! my son just loves it there and he flourished dramatically within his first month. They care immensely for the children esp Corrie the director. She treats each and everyone of the kids there like family. My son's teachers Ms. Nicole, Ms. Kelly, Ms. Michelle were lovely professionals. From a boy who doesn't even want to get out of the car as soon as we park there to a happy toddler who wakes up excited to go to school rushes out of the car to run to his classroom it was just a miracle for us to see him grow this much. They have an outdoor play space only accessible through the school and the teachers are wonderful. We get lots of photos everyday on a parent app and a daily update on eating and potty training. We love the other parents in the program. My son was very underweight before starting and was not very verbal. We did speech therapy for awhile but it was school that made a massive difference. Since starting school full time, he's become a great eater and his speech has improved drastically.

When closed, they only give 15 minute zoom classes where most of the time they put a video of someone reading a story, rather than reading it themselves and engaging the kids with questions. There is a ridiculous amount of closure days and these are not reduced due to pandemic closures (not even the parent teacher conference day). They have very strict drop off guidelines, if you are a few minutes late you could be waiting outside for about 10-14 minutes even at below zero temperatures. The teachers are extremely nice but the place is very poorly run. i have never had such a bad experience with a daycare center.

All of the teachers have been wonderful--we have voiced a couple of concerns with our child and they have gone above and beyond to make us feel comfortable. I am so grateful to feel that care. Their average teacher tenure is about 10 years. We have been so impressed by DLS and how they provide so much support to parents with lots of advice and experience. Kate and Meredith have each been at DLS for over 20 years and are just fantastic resources. I don't know what we could have done without them! Our son just started their 4s program and he was part of their 3s program. In his 3s program, he was in a class of 10 children with 2 teachers and currently has 3 teachers with 14 kids in his 4s program. I can honestly say that their program is heads above any program we considered during our search with individualized attention given to his progress. He has cooking class, music class and library every week. They have a rooftop playground with a garden and special wood boards, boxes and sawhorses for kids to independently build things from their imagination. Kate and Meredith are also well known in the NYC school community as they have been around forever and are very helpful during exmissions.
