They went out of their way to have breakfast ready for us a little earlier one day as we had a flight that morning to the Isles of Scilly. Internet was a little spotty sometimes, but workable. And the breakfast! You can have a traditional English fry-up, but there are so many other options as well. We loved the pancakes with fresh fruit and the warm baguettes. The first thing we noticed was how elegant the building was, with stylish interior decoration and high ceilings proving a lot of light in the rooms. It is located a stone's throw away from the sea, which you can view from some bedrooms. We were offered rather nice coffee on our arrival along with freshly baked homemade scones, then relaxed in the front room where there was a computer if we needed (WiFi provided throughout the hotel). The couple who run it were fantastic; very friendly and helpful with any queries, and there was a printed guide in our room complete with local restaurant menus in it (we'd recommend the Navy Inn). They also happen to produce AMAZING breakfasts. And a great choice of coffee. They are also a certified Green Business, and food and toiletries are sourced locally. It made for a quality stay in the centre of Penzance; we'd recommend this hotel to anyone!

It is certainly not the place to go for quick, cheap nosh-up. This is the other end of the scale, with all dishes being painstakingly put together and presented. The serving staff have expert knowledge of all things being served, showing chef-like passion themselves for the dishes and food on offer. You do get the fancy, rather large plates with what appears to be a small portion of the food delicately arranged in the middle, with dribs and drabs of the relevant sauces around the outside. However, the quality is superb, and the portions are actually rather good. This is certainly not to everyone's taste, but if you are looking for fine dining with excellent quality food (and you have a lot of money) this is the place to go without doubt.

The accommodation is out of this world, you can easily forget you're in the UK here. It's also offers hotel type services so you're never at a loss really. We had an unusual experience - while checking in my husband realized he'd left his computer bag on the train. Ross happened to be entering the lobby right at that moment and immediately said he'd drive my husband back to the train station to retrieve it - before the train left. Luckily my husband was able to get his bag back, but definitely not without Ross's help. Thank goodness for Ross and the quickness and kindness he showed. We really appreciated this act of kindness. Now the hotel....we love it! The reception was friendly and attentive, our room is well organized, clean and cozy and with an amazing view! We already can't wait to come back!

I can't help but feel, after spending two nights in Penzance, that this is probably the best hotel…read morein town, but that doesn't make it good. The website presents a picture of what one might want in a hotel on the coast, but doesn't deliver it in any way. It's set in a residential area, which is nice and quiet, and just a short walk to the town center. But, the website is the "best" part of this hotel. We booked a Superior Double sea view room, which despite it being one of the highest-priced rooms at the hotel, was tiny. The furniture is quite scuffed up, indicating years of wear and tear, and there's no place to store baggage where you won't trip over it at some point. What I absolutely hated about this hotel was the parking lot. If you have a large car, don't come here or arrange alternate parking because your car will not fit. I lived in the UK for nearly five years and am accustomed to the smaller parking spaces, but these are ridiculous. They're tiny and strangely angled, making it nearly impossible to park within the spot. In fact, several spaces were unavailable because people had to take up two. You're likely to not have a space to park in if you arrive back late and the hotel is full, as there are far fewer spaces than rooms in the hotel. If they don't have a space, you'll have to find street parking in the adjacent neighborhood. Trying to leave? Good luck. It's a bit of a jam if two cars are trying to leave at the same time, and you'll likely have to blindly back out onto the residential street. Also, the staff is observant, but in a lazy/irresponsible way. For example, at breakfast one morning, the waitress spotted a small bit of food remnants on my wife's bread plate. Instead of simply getting another one, she quickly flicked the material off of the plate and proceeded to continue serving my wife. Gross! Overall, I wouldn't stay here again. It doesn't meet the expectations it sets for itself, and if a business isn't true to itself, how can it be true to the customer?

The food was very disappointing, with soggy vegetables except the leeks which were crunchy! The deserts looked amazing but one spoonful was all I could manage of the mock pavlova (which they charge £4.25 for) a total rip off. There was lot of waste that night. Needless to say we're not having another Christmas do there, in fact none of us will return at anytime.
