The views from our room's patio was a perfect mix of water and skyline. The restaurant downstairs is an all encompassing eatery with delicious breakfasts, lunches, dinners, and late night drinks and snacks. The modern décor gives off a funky, museum vibe and the reception and staff do not disappoint. Taxi's into town cost 7 to 10 pounds, depending upon traffic. If you'd like to stay close to the hotel and explore; you simply walk down the water walk pathway and choose from numerous eateries ranging from high end to "average joe" hang-outs. This hotel has a spa and my friends said they were thoroughly pleased with their experience.

Obviously that all comes at a price and its probably the most expensive in town too. A basic room will set you back £200 and thats without breakfast. The suits cost over £500. Whilst it is a fantastic place its not the most amazing 5 star place i've seen or been in. Sometimes I find the staff to be a little bit lax and its starting to a look a bit tired and so maybe they rely too much on its past reputation that getting in perfect every time. Still i'd thoroughly recommend the spa breaks here, wonderful setting, brilliant service.

Usually I am happy to have fish and chips on the pier but it was raining so needed some cover. It still had a lovely view of the sea and it would be brilliant to eat out there in the summer. Anyway I had this steak sandwich that just seemed to melt in my mouth and was worth every penny of the £10 price tag. Again all their products are fresh and local and you can taste the difference.

Sometimes you see the waiters and waitresses running back and forth between the two, perhaps with a pint or a bottle of wine. I terms of pricing, this is also the most expensive of outlets, but once you taste the food you'll probably concede that it's worth those extra pennies. This is good, hearty British food at its tastiest. Like all restaurants along this stretch, The Water's Edge enjoys spectacular views over the Bristol Channel, and you can enjoy watching the sun set over Penarth, Somerset, Flat Holm and Steep Holm of a summer evening. The thing that lets this place down, therefore, when compared to the others nearby is the atmosphere, I'm afraid to say. While the others have an upmarket restaurant feel, this place is more like a pub with its benches and drinkers lounging outside. This is fine, but doesn't lead you to expect such expensive prices for the food.

Very good value for money, particularly if you book on the internet well in advance. Plenty of parking, although they do now charge you a few quid a night for this. Gord and I spent last week at the Holiday Inn Express Cardiff Bay and I would not recommend this…read morehotel. We booked and paid for our vacation in January. At approximately $368 per night, the hotel was neither the most expensive nor the least expensive option available. One of the reasons we selected it was because a complimentary breakfast was included. Upon arrival, we were surprised to discover that our room had two single beds rather than one larger bed. I immediately contacted the front desk to request a room change but was informed that the hotel was fully booked and no alternative rooms were available. A larger bed would have been preferrable but it wasn't a big deal. The room itself was uncomfortably warm and stuffy the whole time. Although the window could be opened slightly, it provided very little ventilation. There appeared to be an air conditioning unit in the room and an air exchanger above the door so I contacted Reception for instructions on how to operate them. I was surprised to learn that neither unit was functional. I again requested a room change but was told this was not possible. The hotel did offer a fan, which we accepted the next day. Unfortunately, the room never cooled down, even during the night. Both of us experienced restless, uncomfortable sleeps due to the heat. The bedding consisted of duvets in covers, with no separate sheets provided. We eventually removed the duvets and used only the covers but the room remained excessively warm. A few days later, we borrowed a second fan. While the fans helped cool us when we had them pointing as us, they did not lower the room temperature. Adding to the frustration, each fan had a timer that automatically shut it off after a maximum of two hours, requiring us to wake up repeatedly throughout the night to restart them. Between the heat and the fan timers, neither of us slept well during our entire stay. Another issue was the shower. Regardless of the time of day, the water pressure was extremely poor. The staff were friendly. The hotel is in a good spot as it's between the city centre and the Bay (about a 15 minute walk either way). It's in a residential area so there's nothing but housing around.
