This was such a great stay! If you're looking for an escape from the city or just a fun, outdoorsy…read moretrip, then you've come to the right place. There's a pool (heated!), a funky sauna, boats and other water activities, and of course the lake is right outside your front door. One guy caught a truly massive muskie right from the dock. The cabin we stayed in was so lovely, too. And there's fun little towns and great hikes close by. I definitely recommend this place to anyone, especially if you want to bring your kids!

We've been there several times over the past 15 years and it's always been a great stay--clean, comfortable cabins with everything we need. The fishing, for the most part, is really good. (Anyone who fishes knows there are days when they're just not biting.) Lake Vermilion is huge and offers endless spots. We love having the pool to relax at after coming in from fishing. (When the kids were younger, it was a lifesaver when they couldn't handle the all-day fishing my husband planned.) The owners, Dave and Diane are great -- friendly, always welcoming and ready to help, without being pushy. For us, it's a long trip from Ohio, but we love getting away to the North Woods. Everett Bay Lodge keeps us going back.

STAY Away! I know…read morewhen I read reviews, it's helpful to have lengthy descriptions of the food and atmosphere. But I'm just not willing to spend more time typing than the cooks spent cooking my food. We tried this place twice -- once for dinner and again for the breakfast buffet. Both instances, the food was barely tolerable and my entire family walked away hungry rather than continuing to eat what we ordered. The Tamarack is inexpensive but I suspect its the only way they can get people to eat there. I'm not a snooty eater -- I love Waffle House and iHop for breakfasts but even the Tamarack was able to make breakfast food unpleasant (pancakes were crusty, ham was fatty, oatmeal was nearly solid, fruit was from a can, etc. etc. Do yourself a favor and avoid. On the second day we managed to find the Vermilion Club for dinner and SuLus in Tower for breakfast...both a welcome change from the Tamarack

All the entrees in the buffet were fresh, hot, and quite tasty. Only the bacon was overcooked, but a lot of people like it that way so it probably is not an issue. We thoroughly enjoyed it. Compared to the crappy expensive breakfast we had the day before at another local restaurant, for $5.95 this was a huge value! Compare that to your average mediocre-at-best chain restaurants. The dinner also was very nice with a large variety of fish, seafood, ribs, steak, chicken, etc. Everything we tried was very good including the fresh green beans. The salmon was excellent as was the catfish, the ribs were very good, the seafood was fried but of a good quality, the steak was surprisingly good, and the deserts were very very good. Nothing bad to say at all about this buffet for $11.95. The casino is just a typical smokey casino as you would find anywhere in the country.
