We set up an eval for my 2 oldest kids (thanks Beth) and they were placed in classes. They find the classes to be easier than North Shore Racquet Club, which may be a leveling thing. They do like that they are small classes and say that the instructors are all great. They've also been doing privates with Mo, who is such an amazing instructor. I watched my son's lesson one day and was so impressed with the feedback he was getting and he has a really fun, positive attitude too. I'm doing a lot of outdoor tennis right now thanks to this gorgeous Chicago fall we are enjoying, but when it's time to hit the indoor courts I may see if Mo has time for me too! They have agility classes here too, which I think look amazing. I've been trying to convince my kids to try them, but so far they just want to play tennis. The front desk can be slow with returning emails and they don't always answer the phone, which can be difficult when it comes to scheduling makeups, etc. They do have a makeup email alias, but I"ve yet to get a response when I've emailed it and usually just call until someone picks up. Overall, it's a great club and I can see why it has such a good reputation!

The instructors were great and I think some of them are still there! For those who are not 10 years old, you can reserve court time throughout the day. I wish I could do that but too bad I have a job. In addition to the courts, they have a tennis shop and they sell nice rackets and cute outfits. I haven't been back in about 10 years so not sure how much has changed but they have plenty of courts and if you are in the area and want to hit, stop by!

Blown away!!! Until…read morerecently, I had absolutely no idea that this completely ginormous indoor golf lesson/practice facility even existed. From the outside it looks like a small space in an industrial building. But, when you drive around to the back parking/entrance, be prepared to be completely blown away once you step foot inside. What the what? The specialized rooms just kept on going and going and going. Today I receive a tour from Chris, one of the managing partners and instructors of this facility. The space overall is 13,000 square feet and inside they have putting greens, golf simulators, a driving range (what?), and all these cool assessment gadgets to help evaluate your stroke and help improve your putting skills so you can train to be a better golfer in your future. Whether you're a beginner kiddo to a grown adult (pro or golfer for fun), you can keep your skills up to par (see how I did that) throughout the winter weather right in Highland Park. Who knew? Just a hop skip and a jump off the expressway, and you'll be there in no time at all. Bonus points...Jewel/Osco is right across the street, so if you get hungry while you're at it, you can run and grab a bite. They offer 60 minute lessons and special practice times. Sadly (in a good kind of sad), I was so overwhelmed that I only snapped a couple of photos. Guess I'm going to have to sign up for lessons! Take note, they also host special events. At least when I played there was nobody enforcing pace of play, so we were well on track for a five + hour round of golf while the group in front of us was busy plumb bobbing its putts for quadruple bogey ... with an entire hole open in front of them. Could be a lovely round with a little bit of gentle guidance from rangers to keep pace, and some regular reminders to adhere to some of the basic courtesies like raking bunkers, replacing divots, and repairing ball marks (none of which seemed to be being done on a particularly regular basis...).

The negative feedback from a couple older Yelp reviews for Lil' Kickers Northbrook are 5+ years old, and look outdated along with outdated website and corporate info as well (for which I have also submitted corrections).  I may also be an overly generous old-schooler though on the rating of any toddler sports program having myself come up through the self-taught youth program provided in the side streets and alleys of Chicago with pick-up games and no coaches or uniforms...  but probably not.  I do have a lot of personal experience with various formal youth sports programs in the upbringing of my own kids.    The current toddler program here is different from 2 years ago in that the current pandemic era one is conducted outdoors only and at nice Clarkson Park at 1950 New Willow Road in Northfield.  Currently, adults need to have a mask and it's one attending/participating adult only per child.  The older grand-daughter had her Lil' Kicker soccer class at their nice indoor Athletico Center facility at 1900 Old Willow Road in Northbrook.  The current class size is 4 so the kiddos get a lot of attention.  I think the older grand-daughter's class size was about 7 back in more normal times, and it can go up to 12, and it is still a good and fun learning environment. The price for their Thumpers' classes (2-3 years old) is $17.75 per 50 minute class with a $40 annual fee, and this includes a uniform.  It's more expensive than say a Park District program, but the attention and training is a lot more personal.  Recommended!

She had a blast running around "playing" soccer. And we loved getting pictures of her in her adorable uniform. The class was very consistent- same instructors every week and same exact activities so she always knew what was coming next, which (like all toddlers) made her feel comfortable. A few months ago I decided to check out this Lil Kickers in the burbs. I was bummed to hear they don't give you a uniform like they do in the burbs. If you want one you have to actually buy it, but fortunately ours still fit from the city days. My husband went to the majority of the classes and said he wasn't nearly as impressed. There seemed to be a different instructor each week, there wasn't much structure and the class wasn't able to keep my daughter's attention for very long. When I finally took her to class I had to agree with all my husband's sentiments. There's not much organization here. In fact, when my stepdad took my daughter last weekend she insisted that she was in a different class than she actually is...and no one seemed to notice there that she was in the wrong class of much older kids. It definitely is a good option if you want your kid to run around for 45 minutes (especially in the winter) and for that reason I won't be opposed to giving Lil' Kickers another shot with my son when he's old enough. The starter was super helpful with tips, and the ranger was out there doing his best to keep things moving along. The pace was a little slow (normally something that drives me crazy ), but honestly, seeing the effort from the staff made all the difference. Easy check-in, fair pricing ($50 twilight rate for 18 with a cart), a beautiful layout, a moderately challenging course, nicely maintained fairways, and excellent greens -- you really can't beat this public/park district gem. Yes, the wait could have been a little painful, but with the weather this gorgeous, I honestly couldn't complain. Sometimes you just have to enjoy the day and take in the views! Definitely coming back. This one is worth the drive!

The last time I played here it was cartpath only, why do you ask? Because they didn't fix the drainage problem. That's right, they spent millions of dollars and there is still water sitting on the fairways, ridiculous. Also why didn't they fix the cart paths out on the course? Some of them are so bad you have to drive on the grass. Again, why? Possibly the worse part about this whole mess is they don't tell you it's cartpath only until they take your money to play golf and a cart. What are you supposed to do? Go get your money back, load your clubs back in you're car and say good bye to your foresome? I hate that sh*t! The good part is is that they did a really nice job on the clubhouse, the dining room is much improved and they now actually have a small pro shop. Next to the warm up court there is an area to stretch with a few machines available. There is also a break room with a microwave if you need to do some work or eat. The courts are divided into beginner, intermediate and advanced courts- although sometimes there can be players who are just using the court if it is open and may not reflect the level correctly. The courts and nets are sturdy and provide stability. Courts 1&2 and the 3 middle courts also have video recording if you download playsight. It is really easy to use. Ace also offers a titan ball machine to use along with hoppers to pick up the balls. They also offer demo paddles if you are interested. At the moment, there is a $30 membership trial, so I definitely suggest it. There's 14 courts, all open play. Which means, if it's busy, all courts are open for anyone to put their paddle on the rack and cycle in. It's a great way to meet people but also play against different playstyles. There are 3 court levels: Beginner, Intermediate, and Advanced. So of course, play at the level you feel comfortable at. The staff is really awesome to work with and they've been very helpful with everything. The club is also hosting more events so that's fun too! For private courts - they will have some available, on the app, only for non-peak hours. Peak hours = all open play. Also, if it's not busy, you can ask the front desk to borrow their Titan Pro Ball Machine, that thing is amazing for drills and practice. Highly recommend the place!
