I happened to sit next to the owner of Gaia Salonspa on a flight, and she convinced me to see Hannah and told me the wax is intended for people with sensitive skin. I have been a regular client of Hannah's for three years for waxing, and tried a facial with her as well. She is very professional, makes me feel comfortable, and has a lot of experience and training. When I found out a few weeks ago that she decided to start her own studio, I was excited for her (and also because it is down the street from my house). Today I visited Hannah for my first appointment at Luminous Esthetic Studio, and it was a great experience. She has a private studio within the Allure Salon, which is quaint and decorated very well. After the appointment, I paid with a chip card reader connected to her phone, and set up future appointments which immediately were texted to me as confirmations. She said she "had time" and went ahead, but then I was charged for it anyway. On top of that, I asked for a dark wine red and ended up with a super dark plum/purple that looks almost black in the light, which wasn't what I wanted. What really bothered me was the lack of communication. No one sat me down and explained what the extra services or costs would be, which would have let me make an informed decision. If I had known, I would have chosen differently. Instead, I left with a color I'm not happy with and a bill three times higher than expected. I also felt uncomfortable during the appointment because the stylist made negative comments about another client and her younger sisters. Overall, it was an unprofessional and disappointing experience, and I wouldn't recommend this salon if you're looking for transparency or customer care.

The towels felt like the kind you'd probably find at a cheap motel. I think I was just not lucky enough to be 'helped' by an awful staff even though she was supposedly highly recommended. I wish I had remembered her name. Sure, she smiled when she walked into the room, but as soon as she started working, I knew I had made the biggest mistake. The same girl did both for me - she was so friendly and nice. My haircut went well, she did exactly what I asked - just got an inch off or so and some layers - so I was very happy with that. I will say however, my eyebrows were pretty uneven. When she originally handed me the mirror to look at them, I asked to get a little more taken off - and then when she gave me the mirror the second time, I'm not sure if it was because my eyebrows were red from the waxing or what, but I didn't notice a huge difference... until I got home and noticed that they were very different. So I had to end up plucking a lot myself when I got home. I know the ownership has changed hands sometime within the last year or two - and I'm not sure if that has something to do with it or not. Prior to this visit, I hadn't been in a year. I will say it seemed better priced than before, but I've usually had better experiences with my eyebrow waxing than this last time.
