Fish and Hits Don't know why this place has so many dodgy reviews, it is dynamite - and this is coming from a guy who doesn't really like fish and chips. Seriously, service is top notch and everything is cooked to order, I can't account for how genuinely fresh the fish is, but the batter is amazing. It has a lovely sweetness to it that makes you want to be wrapped in it and smothered in vinegar. As a fan of Fish & Chips I always like trying out new places, seeing if any can match the quality of my favourite chip shop in Anstruther. In Edinburgh, this has proved to be a challenging task, with many chip shops providing soggy, horrible fish or chips which have not been fried for long enough! However, Globetrotter was, to my surprise, quite a good chip shop. The fish has consistently been good, not great, but good. And on must occasions the chips have been crisp! However, I am not always to enthusiastic to pay near enough six pounds for a fish supper which is just well, good! That is why I would advise you to try the smoked sausage supper! Less than four pounds, this chip shop knows how to fry a perfect smoked sausage alongside some crispy chips! Globetrotters also do burgers, pizzas and all the normal suppers you expect in a chip shop. If you fancy a chippy one day, then you will be hard pushed to find a better one in Bruntsfield! read more

Situated on the busy Bruntsfield Place, Globetrotter seems to do a roaring trade around 6pm. As indicated by its bright neon lights its speciality is fish and chip, yet, as with many other chippies, it also serves sausage, haggis and stek pie suppers amongst other favourites. The service was friendly but a bit impersonal, although this can probably attributed to how busy the shop is around dinner time. Everything on the menu is quite expensive with fish and chips costing about £5.90 and other classic suppers costing about £4.50. At these prices most people would probably expect a near impeccable fish supper. Whilst it wasn't particularly bad, there was certainly room for improvement. The chips were pretty decent but the batter on the fish tasted a bit greasy and was wierdly thick. The actual fish itself, however, was cooked nicely inside and the portion size was generous. Their product range is similar to many other chip shops but their opening hours are very good for the late night clubber or a hard working employee coming home late in the week. The staff are always nice and courteous and help you to pick what you really want if you cant make a decision !! Most of the food that they serve is of good quality but I would recommend eating one of their pizzas as these are quite wonderful !! read more

Has a great reputation in Bruntsfield as a decent chippy but goodness knows why. I really disliked my fish and chips and it also took an unreasonably long time to get served. Its surrounded by other chip shops, like tica tica, which are far superior. The Greek owner is really nice though, just a shame about the quality of food! read more

My love affair with the British classic: Fish and Chips can be a fickle relationship. Sometimes the chips are soggy, often the batter is too. The fish can have a rubbery texture, and you can often find and empty chasm where the fish is supposed to be once you've broken the outer-layer of batter. The Globetrotter consistently addresses these problems and consistently provides some pukka fish and chips (contrary to the previous review, they seemed to have cleaned their act up!). Particularly popular around 5pm, you will always spot a bunch of waiting customers underneath it's gleaming neon sign. Expect to pay around £6 for a generous portion piled into a card box. I'll give them a 4-Star rating as far as 'fast food' places go. This is obviously different from your standard fast food and is called a 'chippy'. (I'm American so I'm writing this from my POV). This review is mostly regarding the pizza as that is usually what I eat when I go. The pizza is decently priced considering the sizes. This is especially true when making a direct comparison to places like Pizza Hut and Dominoes which absolutely rob you blind in the UK. Taking into considering the exchange rate for the USD, Globetrotters is about $8 for a large pie with mushrooms. Alternatively, you can spend £18.00 on a pizza at Pizza Hut and it's the same stuff you're used to getting at any Pizza Hut in the world, which is to say not worth ~$25.00. As far as the food quality goes it's decent pizza. They seem to make their own sauce or use a non-traditional sauce style (in lieu of simply using a jarred bolognese sauce). Coming from the shores of NJ, USA and making the comparison to the vast amount of pizzerias dotting the east coastline I can say that Globetrotters is not A+ pizza, but it's not D pizza either. I'd give it around a C+ in terms of taste, but an A for price, which is why my rating is 4 stars. It's similar to Hungry Howie's or Little Caeser's in terms of quality, minus the flavored crusts and the excess of sauce common with those chains (you can ask for more sauce for a charge. it's simply not standard in the UK, that's all). I think this place is decent and take that term at face value. I choose to go here for a quick pizza grab when I'm at University late working on projects and don't see myself going home anytime soon. I usually eat half the pizza right away and half later so I generally get two meals out of my £5.60. At some point I will post another review regarding their Fish and Chips, which smell fantastic, but I have never actually eaten them at Globetrotters. The staff is generally very courteous to me, but they do tend to keep an eye on you more while you're there like you could start trouble at any moment. Usually, not an issue for me since I grab and go. They're not as talkative as the pizzeria owners in the US are, from my experience. However, that is another cultural difference between the UK and the US. One last thing to note, they do not accept cards. This is a cash only eatery, and the seating provided is bar style next to the window. There is an cash machine (ATM) DIRECTLY across the street so it isn't that much of an issue, really. read more

My family and I have been going to globetrotter for over six years and would have recommended them to anyone. Today my experience with them was appalling to say the least ! My husband is from Scotland, but I am American. I call Edinburgh my home. The racial attack that I just received from globetrotter is disturbing. I phoned to find out what time they open. I was told to FU#% OFF! I thought there must be a misunderstanding so I phoned back and asked if it was Globetrotter? The man on the other end of the phone told me again to FU*% OFF and hung up on me. After calling five times and getting the same response and at this point sure that there was no misunderstanding, I passed the phone to my Scottish friend and asked her to ask the man if it was Globetrotter and if she could place an order. The phone rang and the man answered and was pleased to take her order. I don't like writing reviews and frankly I don't have time, but this was so hurtful and disgusting that I urge you not to go to this chip shop. I took the phone from my friend and told him that I had been a customer for six years and how appalled I was and there wasn't even an apology. This is supposed to be a Family run shop.
