Art session with Gregor
Heather D.

Gregor was absolutely incredible from start to finish! He was so patient and helpful to our daughter. It's easy to see how much he loves and appreciates art. 10000% would recommend next time we visit we will be sure to stop by and see him! Thank you Gregor!!!

Temporary tattoo

My girlfriends and I got matching tattoos here -- we should have read reviews before paying $10 for a 10 second child's drawing. I'm honestly really upset at the quality and how this isn't going to come off for a few weeks. Please do not waste your time. This Pokémon ball looking art was supposed to be a moon with a flower inside.

Getting ready for a glow painting session with Jason

We had a great experience with all the staff on our lil family getaway. We ran into this art gallery and were happy we walked in. We created 3 acrylic paintings in a short time. It was awesome to learn a couple different techniques without even touching a paint brush. Jason did an excellent job guiding us along the way. I highly recommend a visit when in Catalina. Bring on the creativity!

I just went on April 25, 2021 and I could say that I had the time of my life creating something that I thought I never would've in such a different way. Jason is such a loving , care for, and as kind Person and he created such a beautiful masterpiece with me! I do recommend going as soon as you get to the island because to be able to create some thing really cool on top of your paining you have to let it dry before starting the art design. I also recommend to make an appointment due to the fact that a lot of people enter his shop!

They are so so pricey, but definitely get something. It's a good artistic art, different with other art.

My sister's painting. Beautiful, yet no palm trees. Should have had 4, which was discussed, agreed upon, and paid for yet not rendered.

The premise of this business is the opprotunity to learn a new painting technique whilst "co-creating" your own, very cool piece of art with unique blacklight highlights. Essentially, you are paying for an experience (your painting session with oil/acrylic artist Jason Greene) as well as a product (the canvas you take home), so I will discuss both with respect to my 2 out of 5 star rating. TLDR: My sister & I's experience was mostly fun, but the final product (our paintings) unfortunately did not meet our expectations due to several lapses of professionalism from the studio and Jason Green. We clearly communicated what we wanted and our time frame, yet neither was honored despite payment in full and a generous tip. My sister and I had our appointment at 4pm on Friday 6/17/20. Jason upsold my sister from the $60-sized canvas to the $100-sized canvas at the discounted price of $80; she worried aloud about the larger size drying in time as our boat was the next day at 12:30pm, and Jason assured her it would not be an issue. He then gave me the $40-sized canvas at the discounted price of $20, so initially we are thinking we are getting a great deal. Our family vacations to Avalon every year, so it can be hard to find new things to do and we were stoked to discover this interactive art studio. The paiting session took about 20 or 30 minutes for both of our canvases, and the experience aspect is a lot of fun! Jason asks you what pieces on the walls you like, what designs/imagery you are thinking, and then starts to talk color pallette. One aspect that fell short of my expectation was the "co-creative" element: you get to pick maybe 40% of your colors, and are only hands-on for about 10 to 20% of the painting; Jason does the rest. He is the professional artist, so I can understand the business sense of entrusting him with the majority of the creative work/responsibility... And here is where our experience started to go sideways. After completing the acrylic background of both of our canvased, James claimed he would complete the finishing details on his own time so that our paintings would be done by our boat ride the next day. This did not happen. The next day, my sister & I tried to call Jason at 10AM to confirm pick up as discussed at 11AM. He did not answer, we left a voicemail, and he did not return our call. An hour later, we show up as scheduled and are greeted as if we are new customers and he doesn't remember who we are. After we explain that we were here yesterday and are ready to pick up the painting with 4 palm trees and the painting with an octopus fighting a warrior, he does remember us, except guess what? Neither comission has been worked on at all since we left the day before. Jason retrieves my sister's painting from underneath his work space, and loose paint left dark marks on the canvas due to the unprofessional storage strategy. He hastily painted on a warrior for me as he explained A) his cellphone has been acting up, and B) his boat motor died last night, causing him to have a stressful evening and lose sleep. That sucks if its true, but neither excuse explains why he was in the process working on several OTHER pieces of art when my sister & I returned instead of our commissioned pieces, which he promised over and over again would be ready in time for our 12:30pm boat. I tipped him an extra $15 at the end of our 1st session because I was so grateful he was putting in the extra time and effort to give me my warrior & octopus. Considering he painted my warrior using a blow dryer in front of me, and the fact that my sister ended up with 0 out of 4 palm trees requested, all whilst Jason is attempting to explain away his failure to render the service paid for... really left me with a sour experience of this studio. I'm all about artists supporting artists, so I was hesitant to leave this review and debated for over a month, yet finally decided everyone should know the truth of what to expect. My sister and I clearly communicated what we wanted and our time frame, yet neither was honored despite payment in full and a generous tip. He offered to ship us the paitings at a later date, yet we mentioned multiple times our boat at 12:30, and if you do not keep your word the first time how are we supposed to trust you to do so again? Truly disappointing :/

Iam so glad I went because I was fortunate to meet Ruth Mayer who was painting another beautiful painting of the Casino & the amazingly beautiful water. She was so friendly & interesting to talk with. My friends & I also went again to visit her Art Gallery which is where we spent at least a hour viewing with awe The many beautiful paintings of Ruth's. Meeting with Ruth's son at the gallery made our visit even more enjoyable. He was very knowledgeable & shared some interesting stories about his mothers art. I highly recommend anyone visiting the Island to see all the gorgeous art in the Gallery located on Summer Pl.

At first impression, this looked like a cute little gallery with prolific and diverse pieces of…read moreart. But a chance conversation with the store manager made me do a complete double-take. I was extremely surprised to find that all these works were completed by the same person! Her paintings included portraits, cityscapes, serene beachscapes, animals, whimsical figures, and abstract collages. She also has an impressive mastery of capturing the movement of light within her paintings. In one framed print that contained sailboats docked along the shoreline amidst the dusk and illuminating moonlight, the store manager (who also happens to be the painter's son) showed us how the setting quickly transformed into an effervescent dawn scene by just adjusting the power on the halogen light bulb that shone onto the painting. It was amazing, and I was soon lusting after the piece. Unfortunately, it was out of my price range, and I had to walk away before I blew off next month's rent. My boyfriend did end up purchasing one smaller print, which depicted vivid blue and rose views of the sunset and the water along the bay. The store manager was very nice and friendly, often telling us stories about a few paintings. We could tell that he was very proud of his mom. We walked away very happy with the purchase, and we look forward to visiting this and the Laguna beach store if we're ever in the area.

Surprised to learn about the Island's connection to Marilyn Monroe, Wrigley chewing gum, and the Chicago Cubs. The museum also was hosting several artists' exhibitions. Narsiso Martinez's artwork depicting California agricultural labourers was particularly impressive. Some of the works don't get shown to the public often. One of the museum's docents gave interesting background on the artist and the backstory for some of the art pieces. If on Santa Catalina Island, this museum is worth a visit.

Sometimes it's not just the framing! The word "Gallery"…read moredescribes a place for exhibiting and selling art but really it's so much more. For me it's the experience - the time spent looking, studying, and simply browsing a collection is worth gold to me. Chemers Gallery in Tustin is that place that offers that whole experience. Every time I go in there, which I admit isn't near often enough but probably more than some, I delight in "finds". I have a fairly decent collection of artwork and it's not confined to paintings. I've ceramics, sculptures, glasswork, pottery, photographs, and a few weird pieces of found object works as well. Quite a few of those pieces have come from this jewel of a gallery so close to home. The owner Karen, and her friendly staff have always allowed me the luxury to simply roam. I have to walk through numerous times to take everything in. I get distracted by one or two pieces and then turn around and find something else completely unexpected. And, it becomes mine. I love this place!! I am a retired healthcare designer and Chemers was the art consultant on a few of our firms healthcare projects. What I enjoyed was the chosen works were always different from the predictable works too often seen in healthcare spaces and, they always complimented the concepts of our interiors. I also love the shows and exhibitions they often host here. Often soliciting works from local artists, craftspeople, and even foodies, these "pop-up" shows are always good for gifts, wearables, and sometimes taste-ables! And if I'm lucky, I often walk away with a new piece! I always look forward to stopping in on these shows and could spend an hour or more perusing. Do yourself a favor and visit this gallery - oh, and of course, don't forget, they also do excellent framing!!

We reached out to Hattas Public Murals to paint a mural for our newborn son's nursery. With a very…read morespecial but also specific theme in mind, we were unable to find any traditional wall decor in stores that really matched our vision. That's when we decided to commission a mural through a professional and quickly connected with Jeannine at Hattas Public Murals on Thumbtack. We received a lightning fast response, and were immediately impressed with her level of professionalism and accomplished portfolio. After a short on-site consult to take measurements and notes, Jeannine and her team got to work, sending mock-ups (and a few revisions) that brought our idea to life, but also within our budget. The mural features a scene inspired from the book series ("The Prydain Chronicles"), a monogram, our son's name, and a quote from the author. Our son, like the hero from the books is also adopted, so the concept behind the design was especially emotional. Jeannine listened to our story with so much compassion and understanding, we were absolutely confident the execution of the mural would be flawless. Our instincts were spot-on. Once the final mock-up was approved, Hattas Public Murals delivered and installed a spectacular work of art that still brings tears to my eyes. In fact, calling it art is quite the understatement; it is an awe-inspiring and  immersive experience. Everyone who has stepped into our baby boy's nursery has been absolutely blown away, and are amazed by the love and care that can be found in every brush stroke. We could not be more in love with this mural, and the pictures attached simply cannot do it justice. Best of all, it was painted on canvas and applied like wallpaper, so it can be moved, preserved, and treasured for many years to come. We cannot begin to thank Jeannine and her team enough for making our nursery the most special room in our home; with a one of a kind mural that is just as unique and beautiful as our son, Taran. Not only will we recommend Hattas Public Murals to anyone and everyone for their creative decor needs, but we intend to commission Jeannine and her team for several future projects.

This was important to me. Jeanine took the time to listen to what I was looking for and suggested a few things to help grow my idea. I loved that. She came over and was so kind and really took time to understand this was more than just a job; this was something my kid is going to grow up with. She took measurements, and even took color swatches of the carpet and furniture to make sure we matched the color palette! She quickly mocked something up and a few days later I had a photoshopped mockup for approval. Once we approved it we setup a date and I paid the deposit. Marcus was the artist that was assigned to this project. He was so kind and wonderful in my home. He let my wife and I peek and see progress, and would check in with me if he had any questions. He's a really talented artist and executed my vision faithfully. At the end of the day my wife cried (with joy), we have our incredible mural and I couldn't recommend this company enough. Really pleased with how it turned out and I will be calling them again for my next mural or art project.
