What a fun experience! We got to make as many tiles as we wanted for a small additional charge. I definitely recommend this to anyone looking for a fun time on Catalina. The tiles arrived a few weeks after our session and they were just lovely. Very pleased with them.

These are a few of the templates and one custom tile Robin allowed me to make!

Robin was such a joy. Had a blast making tiles on a day trip! She communicated with us very efficiently and we had no problem taking the 9:50am ferry walking and finding her studio by 1pm.

Robin is amazing! I have done just about every tourist thing on this island and more. This was the most and best history lesson of the island, it was fun and we got to make some awesome memories to bring home. Totally worth it to see a small part of the island history. 10/10 recommend this if you are visiting the island and want to experience something that most won't. A small personal and awesome experience.

By far the best thing we did in Catalina! My husband & ended up having a session with Robin by ourselves. She insisted on picking us up downtown so we didn't have to get a ride to her place. At the studio, she gave us a thorough and fascinating abbreviated history of the island, its geology, and the history of tile artwork on Catalina. The tile-making was so fun. Robin did a great job of explaining all the steps to us, monitoring to make sure we did it right, then let us do our second tiles by ourselves. (Love that we each got two tiles instead of just one.) She even had us put holes in the back so they can be hung on the wall. She glazed the tiles for us and they arrived in the mail less than 2 months later. We're very grateful to Robin for the unique experience and souvenirs--truly a one-of-a-kind experience! If you are thinking about trying it, do it!

What a great time we had with Robin. We found the history and stories she shared very interesting, and we loved making our tiles. We received our tiles yesterday, and they are a wonderful memory of a wonderful day.

My tiles are so beautiful. I LOVE them.

My son and his friend took me to Catalina last month for my birthday. My son suggested we visit Silver Canyon Pottery. We had the bext time ever! We had so much fun with Robin and enjoyed learning the history of the island and making tiles. I came today and I am so pleased. They are so beautiful and a special memory to share. I also fell in love with Robin's dog. I highly recommend tile making with Robin.

This was such a blast! We brought our 5 year old and Robyn was great at explaining everything in a kid friendly way -- even history. A must do if you're visiting the

Everyone gets to make two tiles. They will be shipped to your home (which means less to worry about if your flying!).

One of the best experiences or tours on the island. I have been to the island 4-5 times and wanted to do something a bit different. while I've been to the museum and heard about the history many times, Robin was able to share history that was new to me. She knows her stuff well. We made two tiles and ended up adding cork feet to ours to use as coasters. Robin mails them directly to you as well making it easy if you are flying home. The van to her studio was easy to find on the main boardwalk and a very short ride. The tour was very prompt and on time which was great. We did this from a cruise ship and has no issues catching the tenders and making it on time (and back on time!).

We had SUCH an amazing day today with Robin at Silver Canyon Pottery! She was so upbeat and friendly. BEYOND knowledgeable about all things tile/pottery/Catalina history. We enjoyed every second of our day. Making the tiles and adding our very own personalized touches to them was so fun and so special. Now we will have handmade keepsakes from our fun adventure! Robin we so sweet! She even drew us a map, suggested a delicious lunch spot, and drove us back into town. We couldn't help but smile and think of her whenever we came across her tile work....which is hard to miss! Thank you again Robin and Silver Canyon Pottery for such a magical and unique experience!

Our 5 year old can do this!

There is also a "Circuit" ride share that will take you around the island for $2 per person. Coming in by tender from a cruise ship is great. The docking area is in town and so close to everything. I exited the tender and walked along the waterfront where I passed a few children's playgrounds with a pirate theme. Then on to where the golf carts are rented. I walked to the pier (Green Pier) where there are bathrooms and many small shops all hoping for the tourist business. They carry the typical port souvenirs. After a long walk on this short pier I got to the end where there is many people fishing with poles and the little set ups they will sell you for a few dollars and the bait too. There are plenty of benches to sit and watch the boat come in and out of the harbour. There is a small beach area that has lots of pretty colored little rocks along the shoreline. The walk to the round Casino Building is pretty much the end of the road before a mountainside resort. I passed by some waterfront restaurants that were even crowded on a cloudy day. My walk back to the tender was quick and the ride back to the cruise ship was also pretty nice and calm.

We booked a tour once to see bisons but didn't get to see animals cause it was raining. The tours we went by ourselves were much better! We saw many wild animals including bisons! The interior vineyard is so beautiful. The trips were very enjoyable but a bit of too much sun for me. Wear sunscreen and a hat to prevent sun exposure! Keep in mind that it takes 20 years to be able to buy a real car on island. Only one golf cart is allowed per residence. There are no spaces for real cars and more golf carts in Avalon. Our family and friends live here so they have a real car to take us to interiors. Yes you will need a real car to do that! Avalon has enough restaurants and bars to hang out. Casino is also a movie theater to show older movies on certain weekend evenings. They offer tours of this historic casino too. They host NYE gala every year. Beach club is great for summer times. Museum is small but still worth taking a tour. Too bad the spa has closed down, we used to go there all the time. This island has so much to offer. It's the best place for a lot of fun just a ferry ride away!

So if you're on the fence or feeling anxious, this review is for you. We had Andrew as our guide and he was awesome. Before we even got on the open air hummer, he was very upfront that the ride would be bumpy and gave solid advice on where to sit if heights make you uneasy. That actually made me more nervous at first, but it turned out to be totally fine. The hummer never gets that close to the cliff edge, and it always felt controlled and safe. The views are unreal!!!!!! seriously breathtaking. We were lucky enough to see 2 bison, 2 Catalina foxes, 2 does, and a young buck. The tour before us saw zero bison, so we were thrilled. We even got to see them up close, which was incredible. As for the ride itself, I didn't find it nearly as bumpy as people make it sound. There were a few spots where the height felt a little sketchy, but in a "whoa" way, not a "nope, I regret everything" way. All in all, I'd absolutely recommend this tour. Don't let dramatic exit speeches scare you off, you'll be glad you did it. There's blankets available on the hummer in case you get chilly. Tips: - bring cash. The tour does an amazing job of hitting the highlights around Avalon, sweeping you up past the historic Catalina Casino, Lover's Cove, and all the way up to the incredible vantage points near Mt. We booked tickets for the 4:15 submarine tour with three kids (ages 5, 4, and almost 2). We showed up at 4:09, feeling good, holding wonder in our hearts, and ready to look at some fish. We hang tight at the entry gate for a few minutes, and at 4:13, the "captain" violently emerged from the submarine hatch like he was on the sinking Titanic. He was at a vibrating level-10 panic before his feet even hit the deck. He glared at us and barked, "ARE YOU HERE FOR THE 4:15?!" We said yes. He immediately declared: "YOU'RE NOT ON THIS BOAT!" Before I could even process his immediate rejection, he snatched the paper receipt straight out of my hand and started screaming into the open air: "ARE THERE ANY SEATS?!" He might have been yelling at his coworker, who was an absolute angel trapped in a maritime hostage situation, or he was just screaming into the void. Honestly, 50/50 toss-up. We finally descend into the submarine. Plenty of open seating. Then, at 4:15 on the dot, our friend Vanessa arrived with her family. The captain intercepted her at the hatch and literally yelled "THERE'S NO ROOM!" into her face. Vanessa calmly asked, "Wait, did you overbook?" The captain threw his hands up and yelled that he had "NO IDEA HOW MANY RESERVATIONS THERE ARE!" Vanessa, using logic, held up the glowing confirmation screen and tickets on her smartphone. The captain stared at this modern technology, looked terrified, and screamed: "I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THIS MEANS!" At this point, broken by the sheer reality of a customer with tickets, he relented: "FINE. But you'll all be seated separately!" We all sat together. Zero stars wasn't an option. I don't know who hurt this man, but if your dream is to get verbally assaulted on a dock by a "submarine" captain who is potentially on the comedown of a bender, this is the cruise for you!
