Great service, the staff here are friendly and if you make a bad joke, they're kind enough to politely laugh.

I have found that the wineries in the hills are selective on where they sell their wine. As for crafties, it is like a trip around the world. You will not be bored here. I have always found the staff to be helpful, something I need as I am not much of a drinker. It is quite a large store which could probably do with better signage so you can find things more easily, especially if you are like me and don't come often enough to know the lay out or if you happen to be drunk already, in which case you may get lost even quicker. A range of boutique, small batch SA wine makers and some interesting bottles from overseas are also available. They also have my favourite KIS Gin in stock. Boasting an excellent array of wines, beers, ciders and a decent spirit selection, Goodwood cellars has the who's-who of wine in South Australia with the heavy hitters and small wineries and brewers on feature. I'm more of a wine drinker myself so my knowledge of the beer selection and ability to comment on it is somewhat redundant (but other reviewers rave, so go read there opinions!). Small wineries that had previously given me the impression of only having a cellar door for sales are prone to appearing for a limited run in store, but I enjoy this as it lets me vary up my local wine knowledge. Prices are very reasonable with monthly specials in all the major categories letting you explore the finer side of the palate without breaking the budget and favourites staying at a consistent price. The best part of this bottle shop has to be the service. The team here definitely know what they're talking about and are always willing to help. Looking for something for yourself? Tell them your preferences and they'll hunt it down (white, crisp, riesling, not sweet, about $20). Looking for a present? They'll find something to suit and impress and will keep your budget in mind (without making you feel like a cheapskate!). And if you have something specific in mind, they'll take you straight to it, saving you from wandering direction-less in those overly large bottle stores popular of late. Still very good in comparison to all other bottle-o's though. I ended up doing my x-mas grog shopping there this year and was in and out in about 10 minutes spending less than a minute at the check out. I reckon that I could have been waiting in line for over 10 minutes at some other places, so definately another box ticked in my opinion!

For a few bob, we were able to attend a structured, very civilised wine tasting on a lovely sunny day. Nothing better methinks. The standard bubbles-whites-reds tasting was interspersed with a minimal touch of discussion from the lovely sommelier who was happy for us to intersperse a cheeky rose-ay in the tasting mix because the weather was just right. And I'm glad we did because we really liked it and grabbed a couple of bottles on our way out. It is a sit-down session, as you can see from the photos they even give you a scribble pad...after one glass, I was writing nonsense notes like 'the wine has the appearance of a poem about a blonde lass' which made it even more fun! The stand outs for us were the rose-ay and the whites - the sauv blanc and the bubbles are very sessionable and agreeable for the current climate. The reds were OK but we only tried the pinot and the bottom-of-the-range shiraz so we decided to save our red-wine pennies for another day. The complementary cheese platter (thanks to our deal voucher) was a great match to the whites, with all cheese sourced from Woodside Cheese Wrights. Love that WCW! This seems like a funny spot for a cellar door and you don't get any of the magnificent views of the Hills, but for city people it is worth a look and you don't have to get a tour guide to get you here and back. We sat down at midday and left at about 2.15pm so we took our time, but I wouldn't have wanted to have gone any faster. Open limited hours but worth a look in, if only for an excuse to slip away from the hustle and bustle of the real world and try some top hills wines. Tomich = T for tick!

They also hold evening classes at the site where people can learn the finer points of wine appreciation over a number of weeks and of course you can also buy your Tomich Wines from the same place. You can even hire the King William Road location to hold your own function and the Tomich team in conjunction with Mantra Restaurant will organise the catering for you. There's the option of cocktail parties or sit down dinners on offer. As they say on their brochure - a boutique wine experience for the heart of the city. Love it!

Word of mouth pointed me this way. Otherwise, I would have kept driving past. Why do they have so many awesome beers? Well, influence from the Highway Hotel. This is really awesome for this end of town as there is not another bottleo that offers this big of a range. Next stop for crafties would be closer to town. Correct me if I am wrong! Not a bad wine selection too. There were a few of the smaller boutique drops in here amongst the bigger names. Also well priced all round. For a big brand bottle shop, this one is very good. All of these bottle shops are Australian owned and are connected to a pub so it's no like a freestanding Fassina, Dan Murphy's or a BWS. What I like about it besides being Aussie owned, is the name is so apt and the logo is very outback ocker displaying a camel and I think their prices are not too bad. They also run several competitions and offer a discount card where points can be earned towards a reduction on normal prices. Once you drive in there are lanes for express and browsing, as there's nothing worse than being stuck behind a dawdler especially when you're late for a party and all you want is a slab and get the hell out of there! Thirsty Camels have sprung up everywhere and there are many locations throughout South Australia, so have a look in the White Pages or go online to find where they are and support an Australian owned business. Did you know the Highway Inn had the 'world's' first drive through bottle shop! How's that for trivia. Adelaide really was forward in their thinking at the time anyway.
