Now the Bike Shed has moved to Cathedral Road it has more space than at its old premises on Wyndham Crescent, and they've added new makes to their range including Trek, Pashley, Raleigh and Cooper. Apart from the bikes themselves, they also have loads of cycling accessories, from child seats for the back of your bike through to gloves, helmets and clothing. From fairly low-price goods through to high-end brands, they offer stock for most budgets. You can also get your bike repaired and serviced by experienced staff and they supply parts by dozens of cycling brands such as Rock Shox, Endura, Truvativ, Shimano, Mavic, Avid, etc. The staff are all cycling experts, and are knowledgeable on local issues such as good biking trails and Cardiff's Bike To Work scheme - so you can find out all sorts by having a chat with them. Highly recommended for any Cardiff cyclists out there.

They don't care if they have any knowledge or passion about the product they are selling. The people working at the Bike Shed know their stuff and you can tell - their enthusiasm is infectious. They don't won't to sell you a bike to make money, they want to find you the right bike so you enjoy biking. That's why I bought a bike off them that I ride all the time. Me and my partner always attend the demo days which are an amazing day out regardless of your skill level and we come away from these blown away by how much we learn. Over the years I've been dragged to the mountain centre on many occasions. I now not only love a nice long walk, but have gown rather fond of the mountain centre in the Brecon Beacons. They serve basic but good lunches, which are always good value. Have a little gift shop which sells the typical items you'd expect such as postcards (I find it quite funny that this shop used to be the only thing I liked about the centre). But what really makes this place special is the incredible views of Penyfan and Corn Du. I find it particularly great to marvel at these mountains after I've completed them (too intimidating otherwise). I should warn you that come rain or shine this place gets incredibly busy with walkers, which in fact I rather like!

We wander through the aisles, knowing what we are looking for (a lock and a chain for his bike) but unsure where to find them in amongst all of the other equipment. The confusion must show on our faces but all of the sales people are busy so we eventually manage to navigate ourselves in the right direction. Looking at the large range of locks on offer we frown a little at how expensive they are but decide to go for it anyway. Then, he realises he's forgotten his wallet and we have to leave anyway. A few days later, his bike was stolen. The moral of the story is a) always buy a lock for your bike and b) make sure you go back to this shop, where they sell everything you could possibly want for your bike. And if it's not in stock? It sells the full range of mountain bikes, road bikes, city or all-road bikes, as well as a whole host of cycling accessories ranging from bike locks, saddles, shoes and helmets to pedals, pants, pumps and puncture kits. They also stock a lot of the leading, trendy makes of bikes such as Trek, Kona, Orange, Lapierre, DMR, Quintana Roo (know for inventing the triathlon-specific bicycle), and so on. A lot of their stock is quite expensive, but you may be able to benefit from the Cyclescheme they subscribe to, which offers customers a flexible, affordable and tax-free way of buying a bike, saving up to 50% off the cost through their employer - to encourage more commuters to cycle to work. There's lots of information about this on their website. Because this shop is quite big, it's good to browse around without feeling conspicuous, especially if you're not looking for anything in particular or want to be left alone. The staff are friendly but unobtrusive, helpful if you need them but happy to leave you alone if you just want to browse.

Then, its huge. Very large space filled with a correspondigly huge choice of bicycles and cycling accessories. The staff are very knowledgeable and ready to help - not the type that evaluate your worthiness of their time by the amount of cash you're about to shell out. They've a facility for bike repairs and upgrades, where you can get pretty much anything done at a very reasonable price. Then the bikes and parts range from economic bikes for everyday use to proper racing bikes and high-tek mountain bikes. There is also a range of cycling clothing - similarly ranging from professional aerodynamic lycra to casual sports clothes. Overall a place that makes you feel good about cycling.
